Duluth Wing, director of the Arnold Expedition Historical Society, and retired forest ranger, gave a presentation on artifacts at Monday’s gathering of the New Sharon Historical Society he and his  longtime partner Cecil Pierce discovered on numerous digs in the Flagstaff Lakes Region. Among them were musket balls, a bayonet, handmade nails, ax head, and musket parts. “I’m one of the few people that has a collection of Arnold artifacts that we can substantiate,” Wing said. By carefully examining journal entries and logs kept by expedition members, Wing and Pierce were able to trace the path of members of the Arnold campaign through the region and locate several camp sites. With the help of metal detectors the two were able to locate musket balls and handmade nails. Some other things Wing has found since include an English half penny, knives, a men’s metal ring, and a tomahawk, .
