Pioneer Day is widely celebrated throughout Utah on July 24, for the coming of the pioneers in the 1800s. But for many, it's also just a great reason to spend time with friends and family.
The City of Washington holds an annual parade and fireworks for the community to enjoy but, more often Southern Utah families use the day for relaxing and cookouts. The Barnette family, who have lived in Utah for most of their lives, celebrate Pioneer Day with a BBQ and friends and family.
“It's fun and I’ve been celebrating my whole life,” Whitney Barnette said.
Growing up in Southern Utah, Whitney has always gone to the annual Pioneer Day Parade with her family and later enjoyed some food and quality time. For her, Pioneer Day is a time to recognize the pioneers who settled this place and enjoy the day with loved ones.
