Ohio must eliminate statute of limitations for those who sexually assault children
Ohio's statute of limitations for sex crimes is one of the worst in the nation. Ohio laws favor sexual predators and make it next to impossible for victims of sexual abuse and rape to receive justice. Our system deters victims from reporting crimes and gives them little hope for justice when they do.
It is time for Ohio to eliminate the statute of limitations when any child under the age of 18 is the victim of a felony sex crime. This will encourage more individuals to come forward. It can take years to process and report abuse. Recognizing these victims and holding the abusers accountable is an important step toward getting these abusers off the streets. Sexual abuse is a huge, often underdiscussed, problem.
