View Comments Lafayette Parish and most of Acadiana are under a flash flood watch as rain is expected to pummel the area through Wednesday. The watch comes as the area is expected to see 2-3 inches of rainfall through midnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles. And the ground is already saturated with water, making it harder for it to absorb more. "The real big problem is it comes down fast and it doesn't get time to run off like it's supposed to," said Jonathan Brazzell, a hydrologist with the weather service. In addition to a flash flood watch, a flash flood warning was issued through noon Wednesday in Lafayette. During the morning hours, there were a few local spots that saw 1-3.5 inches of rain, Brazzell said. Because of the additional rain expected, he said there could be street flooding and flooding in low-lying areas.
