Surrounding you. Reporter ukee, welcome to the show. People have been lining up, all day along the sea wall here in North Wildwood, right to the edge of the storm because you have these enormous 10foot waves, that are smashing against the sea wall, shooting up spray. Just an impressive shot. Pan over across the ocean where you can see it is just so churned up, one set after another of large waves, and were still several hours away from high tide, but we see waves are already going up against the dunes, it is causing beach erosion, so there is a wow factor and there is a little bit of the sadness as the cost is to the beaches. From watching, to dodging waves the wrong sea wall in north wild wood, this video by zeka shot high tide monday night shows a scene few have ever seen before a storm surge with tall waves that pounded the wildwoods northern tip. Wind where is coming over the wall, thank god for the sea wall when you see pictures like that. Reporter North Wildwood mayor patrick and dozens of others who stopped by sea wall at jfk boulevard on tuesday was both impressed and distress by joses power. Were on our third day of really high tide, very high tide, very large waves, so this morning, the dunes just got chopped in half, were expecting another really big high tide tonight and tomorrow morning. We will see significant beach erosion and dune damage. Reporter people are not loud on the beach where dunes are crumbling, we saw an unable girl able to climb backup after going down to check things out. Throughout the shore officials are treating jose like they would a noreaster. I would say, overhead, bigger sets. Reporter cove of the some of the event got just enough protection from the northeast wind to set up ideal surfing conditions. This is like, a phenomenon for surfing, we live for it. Reporter pictures now, because you really do in the want to be near this sea wall in an hour and a half, two hours when high tide gets close you will get wet and become slippery. They have closed down a gazebo because waves could make that slippery. Cleve, just a couple days, tens of thousands will be in North Wildwood for the annual eye fish festival what are you hearing are they preparing for any impact. Reporter ukee, one of the biggest weekends of the year for North Wildwood and one of the biggest irish festivals throughout the country. They expect that things will be wonderful as far as weather they dont think that people really would be going to the beach a whole lot right here and any sand that gets thrown up on to the street, they will have plenty of time to clear that off in time for the irish festival. Live, cleve bryan, cbs3 Eyewitness News. Lets switch live to meteorologist lauren casey with the cbs3 mobile weather watch inner brigantine, lauren. It is wet, windy and waves are wick here in brigantine. Waves continue to crash against the sea wall. We have a pile of foame mass ing over there, wave heights just off shore recording about 14 to 17 feet, throughout the daytoday, winds right now, they are whipping, gusting would i say to 40 miles an hour, maybe just a bit above. We are having some steam, mist pelting us in the face. Rain stopped. We are getting a break from that but we had a band go through an hour ago but we are in between those rain band but not today for swimsuits and sun screen, but shore goers here in brigantine welcomed this change of pace courtesy of mother nature. Today fun to see big waves and the cloud, and Better Weather tomorrow. And then the weather. Reporter like with irma we got luck which jose, it is passing off shore but we are still seeing impact, center is about 200 miles off shore of the new jersey coastline, rain bands as i mentioned moved through in the last hour and we still could see, rain bands moving in broken in nature but still putting down light to moderate even brief heavy rainfall. We will see that as we head in the evening hours and first part of the overnight period, winds will continue to be elevated at 15 to 25 miles an hour with those higher gusts, especially closer to the beach surf at eight to 10 feet and we had high temp advisory until 6 00 p. M. , National Weather service extend that had until 10 00 p. M. As we can see those waves are still, crashing into the sea wall. Also a concern for moderate coastal flooding, we saw flood ing this morning at high tide, high tide occurred at 7 45. We could sea coastal flooding once again and also continued beach erosion. Tomorrow conditions will be set to improve as jose moves off to the north ande and project to circle around off shore bye the good news it will weaken and dissipate, due to cooler sea surface temperatures, and stronger wind sheer, so joses lifetime is coming to an end and likely will make an extra tropical transition as we head in the next couple of days but even as the sunnies going to come back out tomorrow and conditions will start to improve that breeze will start to die down and we will still have to be concerned jessica with the dangerous rip currents that are going to be persistent through the rest of the week and possibly in the upcoming weekend as jose hangs out off shore and then we will focus our attention to maria coming up the coast. Back to you. All right, lauren, thanks very much. Take a lot at scene at new saw avenue in margate where there was a foot of water in the street at low tide. Neighbors say storm surge came up a Drainage Pipe that cut through the dunes. As a result sea water got trapped in the bulkhead flowing in the streets. This is like partially from the dunes and digging up the grounds and resang it, it seems to be, getting worse and worse. It is a mess. Cant go to the beach or take a look, six, seven, eight, inches of rain where ever you walk. This afternoon dune construction crews moved sand around to release water. Margate dune project and latest flooding has been a source of tension for months now. Tropics continue to keep meteorologist kate bilo very busy, one of the storms is a category five, kates live from the Weather Center with the latest on jose and a very powerful Hurricane Maria, kate that is right, jessica, maria moving through islands impacted by irma just a couple weeks ago, now the clean up will have to restart, with the damage from maria we will have the latest track in just a moment, first recapping what lauren says about the wind, right now courtesy of jose, very strong, these are sustain wind at 18 miles an hour in atlantic city. 17 miles an hour in wildwood, and pretty blustery in the sit as well, 13 miles an hour wind from the north around the western flange of that storm. Lets talk about high tide because thinks the best chance to see, some coastal flooding, even at moderate levels of coastal Flood Warnings, still in effect, high tied this evening in Rehoboth Beach will hit at 8 00 oclock. As we head up the new jersey coastline look for that high tide time around 8 19 in cape may. 8 13 in wildwood. 80 23 49 strat more and 7 45 in atlantic city. We will see flooding peak right around high tide time but it will start an hour before that. So water levels rising as we speak. Wave heights you can see wave heights around jose are around 40 feet in some spots along the coast, 10 to 20 and it will stay that way as we head in the weekend. They say that marjuan had just a minor record, no previous sex offences, and right now, they are trying to eye ball him to see, and determine, if he is connected to any other cases, once again, that is why they are not releasing his mug shot, so as to not contaminate , those witnesses and victims, they are talking to that is very latest live outside special victims, joe holden for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Joe, thank you. Kate bilo joins with us our weather and we have been talking about, lot, there is a lot going on. Just a parade of storms. One after the another. One with harvey, irma, jose and now maria and these are major hurricanes creating a lot of damage in their wake. Maria is the latest one everyone is wondering about. It would be a week or so before we would have any impact from maria in philadelphia i will show you models, the trend to take it out to sea but things can change and position of jose and how quickly jose weakens could determine the track of maria but down in the caribbean for puerto rico, st. Croix, turks abe Caicos Island maria will be catastrophic. Lets start off closer to home where we are dealing with the impact from hurricane help say jose is looking, a little bit extra tropical right now but still classified as a category one hurricane with wind of 75 miles an hour, biggest impact for us, it is rough surf and beach erosion, take a look at ocean city, waves almost all the way up to the boardwalk right now. Very little beach to speak of. It is not even high tide yet. High tide not for another three hours or so. Storm scan three shows position of the jose off shore , you can see the swirl of cloud right here around center of the storm. Heaviest rain positioned closer to joses certainty but as we head back to the coast we are still seeing bands of showers, moving through portions of new jersey, delaware, and a few showers into delaware county, as well as here in the city of philadelphia so notice how, the west ward extent of this doesnt move very far past the city. Heading north and west in the lehigh valley, portions of berks county, Lancaster County we are seeing some sunshine right now. But still those showers coming through and we still have a high tide to get through, coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for the entire coast of new jersey, delaware, and Coastal Flood Advisory right around the mouth of the delaware bay. So anywhere adjacent to these areas could see street flooding in the next several hours. You can see margate as well, the waves crashing up against the shoreline, very, very angry surf out there today and it will remain through the end of the week and weekend as jose will not get out of here quickly. It will sit, spin, gradually weaken, continue to churn up the ocean. Temperatures are on their way back to the 80s by the end of the week. People might want to flock down to the shore but please be safe if you decide to go in the water. Future weather shows that storm just off the coast, showers for the next couple of hours, but quickly, those showers start to shut off, and this system lifts to the north and ease, tomorrow, we will start with cloud and breaks of sunshine, by afternoon, more sun, and then if we pick up a shower, it is few and far between tomorrow and we will see sun return. It will be a nice warm day. Thursday is the system is far enough away we will get High Pressure overhead and sun will be shining, a nice warm day expected. So weve got jose and, of course, maria, maria category five hurricane right now headed for puerto rico as a category four or five tonight. Where is it going. Latest track to take ate cross puerto rico, turks and caicos, none of these tracks take it to the florida peninsula which is great news as they are still recovering from irma. It is lurking off the coast of the carolina but starting to make a turn, something we will keep a very close eye on through the next several days and into next week. As far as tonight is concerned it is mostly cloudy, stray shower, 67 is your low, tomorrow mostly sunny, very warm, day may start with a few lingering cloud but by afternoon the sunnies out and quake peak in the weekend look at that first weekend of fall, not feeling like fall, in fact , it is looking like july highs out there for the weekend, nothing but 80s in the forecast, right through the weekend, and right into next week, and on tuesday, where is fall . I dont know, it ills not in this seven day forecast. No idea.
