You can see the erosion is already under way there. And in Atlantic City jose is churning up the waves there as well. The ocean looks angry, the large swees from jose are sending water over barriers and into the streets. The mayor of Belmar Matt Doherty tweeted this picture this morning. Jose has damaged one of the piers. Good afternoon, im jim donovan. Im Natasha Brown. Rahel is off. Erosion is a concern down the shore. Hurricane jose is making his presence known this noon. Our new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live in that Atlantic City right now with the look at the conditions at this hour. Cleve. Reporter natasha, good timing. The wind is really picking up right now. Its coming out of the north. This is the impact we expected from jose, the wind and 20 to 35 miles an hour rains a little bit of a mist whipping at us. Take a look at this surf though. These are huge waves at the inlet north of Atlantic City and the wind just appears to be ripping the top off of the waves blowing it back out to sea. In fact you see the waves as theyre hitting against the jetty, they smash up and you get that big bit of sea mist, that spray that is kind of beautiful but shows you how powerful it is. It is low tide. Lets take a look at video we shot this morning. That was in avalon just prior to the high tide or right around high tide and you saw the storm surge coming up against the seawall barriers there hitting up near the streets and this is that storm surge that we have to worry about with jose which is in that five, six, 7foot range of a storm surge that causes the minor to moderate tidal flooding. Now, they did not get as much rain as they expected this morning. I checked in with several of the towns and they say that was expecting more rain and that led to not as severe flooding as they could have got after high tide but they had to close cominging into Atlantic City the black horse pike and white horse pike which is both prone to flooding and any areas on the Barrier Islands typically phone flooding during a noreaster. You have to be careful of driving through the roads when we get to high tides especially tonight when we have the next high tide. Thats the next concern. As youre coming home from work today make sure that you find a good spot for your car into the evening because if it was dry when you left this morning, it may be wet tonight. Reporting live in Atlantic City, cleve bryan, cbs3 Eyewitness News. All right, cleve, thank you so much. Now meteorologist lauren casey is watching jose very closely right now. She joins us with the storms latest track and how its affecting this area. Lauren. Thanks so much natasha. Incredible satellite imagery. Jose a category one hurricane. Not too far off shore but at this point were only seeing indirect impacts and thats what were expecting from jose. It will remain out to sea but you do notice that well formed hurricane spinning very slowly in a forward progression pretty slow at this point and its going to hang out off shore but right now dealing with cloud cover mainly in the city and points eastward. Cloudy conditions down the shore with showers moving in. As i mentioned jose a category one hurricane with winds of about 75 Miles Per Hour only moving to the north at about 7 Miles Per Hour. That forecast track eventually takes jose up to the north and east and eventually becoming a remnant extra tropical low as we head into the upcoming weekend. So, it will continue to weaken as we head into the next several days but as we head into this evening and into tonight well still see elevated wind speeds mainly along the coast, winds of about 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour with some higher gusts.
