You do see a little bit of a roadwork, but thats happening in the eastbound direction. So it shouldnt slow things down too much. Bay bridge traffic is nonexistent here, but there is a note about some sort of traffic hazard. Once you get on the span. Obviously there are not many cars on the road at this hour, so its not slowing anything down. Time now is 401. Lets go back to the desk. Okay ali. Thank you. We have a developing story from oakland where police are still searching for the people who shot two people at Skyline High Schools graduation. A man and a woman were shot, but both are expected to survive. The shootings happened last night around 745 on the north side of the campus. A Police Lieutenant says. Investigators are checking reports. There was a dispute just before the shooting started and there are reports this was a targeted shooting and it was isolated. I heard a couple gunshots happening in one of the corners of the school, and then i see a lot of people just started running the opposite direction and it was just a scary experience to witness. And we just heard two bangs and i saw people running. I was parked up there and i told my husband, i dont think those were fireworks. I dont think theyre, you know, celebrating like he thought they were a High School Graduation. To end like this is horrible. There needs to be better, better ways from now on. Now, at this point, we dont know how much security was on the campus for the graduation, but Oakland Police and the chp were among the Law Enforcement that rushed to the school after the shootings, and the school was locked down afterwards. Police investigators in San Francisco say one person was hurt after Police Responded to a call of someone with a gun. Now, this happened yesterday afternoon just after 3 p. M, not far from bayview park. Police were called after someone in the neighborhood reported seeing a man with a rifle. Sfpd says one officer fired his gun but did not shoot anyone. Police say the suspect was injured in the response, but not by gunfire. Suspect was transported to a local hospital for nonlifethreatening injuries due to the fact a less lethal use of force was used to take the take the suspect into custody within the next ten days. The San FranciscoPolice Department will hold a town hall meeting to give more details about the incident. Our time is now 403 in the wealthy community of atherton on the peninsula, recent home burglaries there are leading the police to use special technology to track down the criminals. Now, according to the police, the number of crimes so far this year is almost equal to all of the crimes last year. Well, now the atherton Police Department is launching a Bait House Program with 50 homeowners agreeing to let the police put trackers in some of their Household Items that burglars may try to steal. Once that tracker is moved, we will get a notification of it which is going to trigger our response for the Police Department with our ultimate goal being apprehension. The threat of having a tracer in place could maybe, give, thieves second thoughts about, you know, hitting that house. Now, the price of these sophisticated trackers is 500 a piece, and they have gps plus cellular radio signals. The tracking system also uses Traffic Cameras, several Business Owners in San Franciscos noe valley neighborhood are expressing their concern about a planned paving project this summer. Most of the work is scheduled to take place on 24th street. The city plans to repave that road and other surrounding streets while making improvements to the sidewalks and bus stops in noe valley, but some Business Owners say the four month project will keep people away during the important summertime. Large sections of our commercial corridor are being blocked off. People will just avoid going. Most of our business, especially on this corridor, is during the holidays, maybe a quarter, three, quarter, four. San franciscos Public Works Department says these roads in Norway Valley are way overdue for repaving, and the agency says the project has already been delayed several times over the past nine years. Your time is now 405. Id like to at least see him get back the money he paid. At least that at the very least, you know, that would be the right thing to do. The owner says he never went to see the new property that he bought, and that when he typed the address into a map app, it sent him to a different location with a photo of the house. There is also a note a short time ago, looks like its disappeared from the cad of a fire off the side of the road at the sunol grade, but it looks like it has been put out. Topping our news this morning , we are following the developing story of a shooting at last nights graduation at oakland Skyline High School. A man and a woman were hurt. Both are at the hospital, but they are expected to survive. Gun fire started at about 745 last night. Authorities say they are looking into reports that the shooting may have started with some type of fight. We do know there were, multiple suspects, but were trying to identify why exactly how many. Description of the shooters or whether or not theyre connected to the school. Our time now for 31 firefighters in the east bay were busy battling three separate fires, and one of them went to a second alarm. Ktvu tori gaines tells us about the warning from firefighters as we head into the memorial day weekend. Several fires sparked across the east bay thursday, keeping contra costa to fire crews busy. Warmer temperatures and high winds didnt help. As soon as one fire appeared, contained, another popped up. Just before 3 p. M, a brush fire started on concord boulevard, and soon afterwards flames erupted in antioch at two different locations one near slayton ranch , not far from homes in the area, and another along the antioch marina. That fire reached at least five acres and hit two alarms. Video shows smoke billowing out from behind the boats nearby. Just came down here for lunch, slash dinner, and we saw a little smolder out there and we just kept watching it and the wind started blowing and that thing just developed and went from 0 to 50ft high in flames. A helicopter doused the flames with water and the fire was out within a couple of hours. We dont yet know the cause of these fires, but cal fire tells us that something as small as a spark from a chain dragging along the highway can light an inferno. The biggest challenge with fighting this fire here in the marina is that it is in the two leads, and its, it it really borders up against the water. So so having to get crews and apparatus and lines out to that is pretty tough for us. We do have a fire boat, and that fire boat provides a lot of, versatility for us heading into memorial day weekend. Those who plan on spending Time Outdoors are asked to keep safety at the forefront of their minds. Governor newsom signed the bill in response to a recent Arizona Supreme Court ruling that said a neartotal abortion ban dating back to 1864 is enforceable in arizona, although the fate of that band is up in the air right now. And lawmakers in louisiana approved a bill classifying Abortion Pills as controlled, dangerous substances. Now, supporters of this say this would help protect expecting mothers from coerced abortions, but critics say reclassification would make it harder for doctors to prescribe the drugs for purposes outside of abortions, including managing miscarriages. That bill is now on its way to the governor to be signed. Well, the air being contaminated with covid 19 is not enough for a business to claim physical losses, according to a new ruling from the california supreme court. They wanted their insurer to pay out pandemic related business losses because the presence of covid 19 outside forced them to shut down. One of the students has a condition that has left him wheelchair bound his entire life, but when the race started, they were both determined to make it to the finish line. We were planning to run it, for a while now. It just sounded interesting and, people always talk about how this thing is like a car, my wheelchair, and how its, like, so fast. So me and nate just decided to show them out of his fast. I love that riken has somebody who would think of him in that way, to want to share that experience with him. Well, they didnt finish in first place, but both received medals for their participation. It was exciting, made it to the finish line and as you heard, it was exciting. Well done. Theres some low 40s to the north here, and its going to be a day of below average temps, pretty rather decent breeze already for some up to 30mph. Im just rolling right along here. So windy friday. Cooler as well. Were going to see below average temps , mostly sunny. Some low clouds are really sticking and staying so far along the san mateo coast. So 60s 70 on those highs below average, theyll stay there probably into sunday. All right. Allies here. We had one little hiccup. I heard you say where was that . Is that better . Thats in hayward. And i believe its been cleared even though the chp hasnt updated their logs yet. And heres the reason why we show you the maps. You can see there is absolutely no backup around this. This is a triple a Traffic Cameras will show you that this is southbound 880 at winton. This was a crash that was blocking one of the earlier lanes, one of the lanes earlier rather. But now i think it is cleared because theres not a lot of people on the road and theres no orange or red backup behind it. So thats the good news. Lets take a look at the south bay. The commute there really hasnt gotten started yet. We will see if it even does. It is a friday. Of course there is some road work. As you can see here at highway four, bay point in the eastbound direction, westbound direction is a little bit sluggish as well , but no major issues. And the bay bridge toll plaza still moving, traffic moving very nicely here. 501 lets go back to the desk. All right. Thank you. Ali. Well a still developing story in oakland where the police are still out there searching for the shooters who fired shots last night at a High School Graduation. Ktvu is Amanda Quintana is in our newsroom with the latest. And also the questions that remain. Good morning amanda. Yeah. Good morning. There are still a lot of questions in this shooting caused a lot of chaos last night. As you can imagine, it happened towards the end of the ceremony at the Skyline High SchoolGraduation Ceremony around 745, sending students and families running for safety. Police found that two victims, a man and a woman on the north side of the campus. They were transported to the hospital. Both are expected to be okay. Police are now looking into multiple suspects and investigating a fight that might have happened right before the shooting. I heard a couple gunshots happening in one of the corners of the school, and then i see a lot of people just started running the opposite direction, and it was just a scary experience to witness. It was supposed to be a happy day, a day where you would celebrate your Fresh Graduates and it ended up going completely south. Oakland police and chp were on scene after the shooting, and the school did go on lockdown. Police say this was a isolated incident, although they say they are looking into multiple suspects. Investigators did not provide a description of any of those suspects live in the newsroom. Amanda quintana, ktvu, fox two news thank you amanda. Police investigators in San Francisco say one person was hurt after Police Responded to a call of someone with a gun. It happened yesterday afternoon just after 3 p. M, not far from bay view park. Police were called in after someone in the neighborhood reported seeing a man with a rifle. Sfpd says one officer fired his gun but did not shoot anyone. Police say the suspect was injured in their response, but not by gunfire. Suspect was transported to a local hospital for nonlife threatening injuries due to the fact a less lethal use of force was used to take the take the suspect into custody. Within the next ten days, the San FranciscoPolice Department will hold a town hall meeting to give more details about this incident. All right. Our time is 503. In the wealthy community of atherton on the peninsula. Recent home burglaries are leading the police to use special technology to track down the criminals. Now, according to police, the number of crimes. So far this year is almost equal to all of the crimes last year. Well, now the atherton Police Department is launching a Bait House Program with 50 homeowners agreeing to let the police put trackers in some of their Household Items that burglars may try to steal. Once that tracker is moved, we will get a notification of it, which is going to trigger our response for the Police Department, with our ultimate goal being apprehension. The threat of having a tracer in place could maybe, give, thieves second thoughts about, you know, hitting that house. Now, the price of these sophisticated trackers, 500 a piece. They also have gps and cellular radio signals and the tracking system also uses Traffic Cameras. Several Business Owners in San Franciscos noe valley neighborhood are expressing their concerns about a planned paving project this summer. Most of the work is scheduled to take place on 24th street. The city plans to repave the road and other surrounding streets while making improvements to the sidewalks and bus stops in noe valley, but some Business Owners say the four month project would keep people away during the important summertime, when large sections of our commercial corridor are being blocked off, people will just avoid going. I know that the road here does need work, but hopefully that the city can work with us with the Merchant Association and really work on something where its a win win, win win situation. San franciscos Public Works Department says these roads in noe valley are way overdue for repaving, and the agency says the project has already been delayed. Several times over the past nine years. Time is 505. One man says he was thrilled when he recently bought real estate in alameda for just over 100,000, but then he found out his waterfront property at 610 grand street is underwater. The property he bought is 10,000ft s in a lagoon near the grand street bridge. Well, now that property is for sale again for 400,000. The owner, according to his realtor, hopes to at least get his money back. But hes a, you know, an average working person, and you save up 100, no, 100,000, to lose it. Its heartbreaking. So were trying to see what can be done. Id like to at least see him get back the money he paid. At least that at the very least, you know, that would be the right thing to do. Now, the owner says he never actually went to see his new property that he bought. And that when he typed the address into a map app, it sent him to a different location with a photo of the house. Our time now 506, will today between noon and 7 p. M. Tonight, it is expected to be among the busiest travel times of the memorial day weekend. Almost 44 million americans, according to triplea , will be traveling for the holiday. More than 38 million will be driving air travel, also expected to be the highest in five years, as we recommend getting out before 11 00 if you can or if your night out will not leaving until after 7 p. M. And if youre traveling back on memorial day on that monday, as many of us are going to do, wait until after dinnertime, really after 6 or 7 p. M. That way youll have the clearest traffic out there. Triple a says most of us are eager for some adventure, so more travel is expected this summertime. Not just for the memorial day weekend and trips to las vegas and florida are popular destinations. Well, if you are driving, youre getting a slight break at the pump this Holiday Weekend. Gas prices are falling nationwide, including here in california. The National Average this morning is about a nickel less than a month ago. However, prices are also about a nickel higher than they were last memorial day. Politicians on both sides blame each other for the current prices. Instead of working to lower gas prices for americans ahead of a busy memorial day weekend, Big Oil Company executives are huddling to find ways to keep prices high and keep their profits soaring. Triple a predicts a 4 increase in car travel this Holiday Weekend, compared to last memorial day. Now california, right now averaging 513 a gallon for gas napa has about the highest price in the bay area at 549. San francisco comes in averaging 533, oakland 526, and in san jose, gas is 522 a gallon. Theyre all down slightly from yesterday. Speaking of down slightly, our temperatures are down slightly. In fact, theyll be down a good 510 degrees as temperatures take the tumble here. Santa rosa, menlo park, livermore and san jose. All the arrows are pointing down today and my forecast highs show 74, 68, 70 and 68 on the temps for today. The cooler, windy pattern is today and also saturday. A little bit of a rebound on sunday into monday before it looks like another system drops in tuesday night. Wednesday i would say windy is the main message here. Going out to battle and not very warm. And sometimes if youre in the sun it might not be bad, but ill tell you that temp will drop fast in the Late Afternoon evening. Incredibly cold water temps. Somebody asked me why are they so cold . Because of northwest wind on the coast. The northwest wind generates upwelling, which brings up the colder nutrient rich water from below. There will be a quiz on tuesday 48, 49 and 50. Speaking of, thats about were seeing mid 40s petaluma 45, low 50s, menlo parks 46, san carlos 47. Atherton says. Hey, hey, were 45, in los altos, 47 and stanford campus 46, san carlos, 47, pacifica 49. Cool, cool west to 26, almost 30 out of fairfield. Concord has been 30, almost 33mph. A west wind at napa. West wind also at oakland now, and also from sfo, hayward to livermore. Everything is in place for a blustery day under mostly sunny skies, although theres pretty good fog on the san mateo coast, so a cool pattern. The low moves into the north and that is opening the door to this cooler pattern and cooler, gusty winds today. And also into saturday. So for today, a windy friday but cooler below average temps. Mostly sunny unless youre on the areas where the fog is. And then it will be probably partly to mostly cloudy for at least the morning 50s 60s 70s. On the temps it does look a little better. Sunday, monday. Thank you steve. Memorial day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer. A new poll finds more than 70 of people say high prices on everyday items are affecting their Summer Travel plans. For some, that means driving instead of flying this summer. For others, it means cheaper vacation spots. Either way, people say their summer plans might not be what they hoped for because of money. Come to the conclusion that the prices of travel flying outside of the country is just too much for us to really entertain for the summer. Prices this summer definitely have me thinking about doing more free events overall, more than just going to more costly places like six flags. More than half of the people asked say they are not making any vacation plans at all this year. All right, our time is now 515. We continue ktvu coverage of Asian AmericanPacific Islander heritage month, and this morning were sharing the story of a mother whose quest to help her son has grown into a community movement. Ktvu Lamonica Peters has her story. When my son, three years old, friends of children with special needs, they help me, sherry meng says. After connecting with friends of children with special needs, she wanted to give back to the organization that supported her autistic son. She volunteered with the Adult Day Program for over a decade and eventually taught students life and vocational skills. So we teach a lot of things like how do you cooking . You know, make sandwich and laundry, all kind of thing. And later we move. I more focus on Vocational Training in 2020, with no prior knowledge of the industry, meng says she started an embroidery company. She wanted a business with a skill that students could enjoy and easily learn. After she and her husband invested about 200,000 into the company, she began a partnership with three local School Districts, including Campbell Union high school district, to provide job training. They also learn how to trim and remove the backing. Meng says the School Districts use their own funding to pay students, and they work with equipment that simplifies the embroidery process. This longtime customer, david roger, says he too has an autistic son, but its the quality work that led him to turtle works. You know, its not like just getting a crayon drawing to put on the refrigerator. This is high quality stuff that my people now require. I shouldnt say require. They count on me to go to miss sherry to get additional products made. Impact on the community hasnt gone unnoticed. Turtle works has received Numerous Community awards and has been featured in local newspapers, including this bay area chinese language publication. This chinese mom created a business and teach a autism kids skill. Mom says she named her business turtle works after the story of the tortoise and the hare. She says she wants special needs students to come out of their shell and learn skills like everyone else, even if it takes them a little longer to reach their goals. Slow and steady wins the race. Lamonica peters ktvu. Fox two news lamonica. Great story. Time is 517. Well ktvu coverage of aapi month continues online on our website ktvu. Com. And there you can find a collection of stories celebrating and honoring asian, american and Pacific Islander cultures, where our special program, voices for change, comes back this weekend with a new episode, well continue our celebration of aapi heritage month, and well talk to the executive director of the Japanese CommunityYouth Council. Its marking 45 years of helping thousands of students become the first ones in their families to go to college. Also honoring the culture through storytelling. Well look back at this years cam fest and how it lifted up the voices of the Aapi Community. Its really a powerful thing, you know, that our artists are doing to insist that, you know, our stories are worth, being heard and worth being watched, and worth being known. And dont forget, you can watch voices for change this sunday morning at 930. Right here on ktvu. All right. Steve paulson is here with our forecast as we head into the memorial day weekend. Hows it look . Cooler and windy. The way it looks here. We have a pretty good gusts. Already been up 30 plus for concord. Also out to fairfield oakland napa. Both were the westerly breeze or wind for some. Same from sfo out to hayward and also livermore. Half moon bay northwest to 18 and a south wind at Mountain View and also san jose. So everythings in place. A lot of fog and low clouds, especially on the san mateo. And theyre working their way up the coast. So weve gone from some low clouds to a lot more low clouds, not as much pushing inland, but theres definitely some on the coast here making its move so cooler. Gusty winds. So look for a windy friday and cooler. Mostly sunny, but temps below average. Id say breezy to blustery if not downright windy for some, and it looks like this will be the pattern today and tomorrow. If youre going anywhere, i would take a jacket that temps will really drop off in the Late Afternoon and also evening a little bit better on sunday. Monday. All right steve, thank you. A crackdown on tiktok before the november election. The new policies for a state affiliated account s and a special hearing on the peninsula about Artificial Intelligence. Youll hear how one state official says, i. Technology could help the gov nment our biggest challenge . Uncertainty. Hidden fees, surcharges. Who knows what to expect turn shipping to your advantage. Keep it simple. With clear, upfront pricing. With usps ground advantage®. The Ticket Company live nation. Because of antitrust concerns. A lawsuit follows a Justice Department investigation into whether the Parent Company of ticketmaster has a monopoly in the ticket industry. Attorney general Merrick Garland says live nation depends on unlawful, anticompetitive conduct to exercise control over live events in the industry. It is time for fans and artists to stop paying the price for live nations monopoly. It is time to restore competition and innovation in the entertainment industry. It is time to break up live nation, ticketmaster for now. In a statement, live nation called the Justice Departments allegations of a monopoly absurd and said, quote, live nation in no way fits the profile of a monopoly and that Service Charges on ticketmaster are no higher than elsewhere and frequently are lower. Well tiktok is cracking down on state affiliated accounts that are trying to exert influence overseas during an election year. Now, tiktok says accounts that tried to reach communities outside of their home country on current global events and affairs will not appear on the main feed. This new policy comes after a study conducted by the Brookings Institute found that russian state affiliated accounts increased their use on the platform and were posting more messages in english and spanish. Times now 524. A state official testified that Artificial Intelligence could help the government solve a series of problems in a responsible way. The public hearing was held in woodside. It included an overview of californias efforts to incorporate Artificial Intelligence in government, and it looked at the best practices is to get that started. The secretary of the Government Operations said the state wants to be transparent and deliberate about using it. We tried to not follow, you know, the rush to say use the latest and greatest and because its a fun thing to do, that might be great. We use that. We apply that into a very intentional sandbox area so we can test out what would be the negative side of it, what would be the risk by using Something Like that . Now a second hearing of the commission is set for next month, focusing on underserved communities. Our time is 525 back to back fires in the east bay, including one that was very close to a marina. Star but ill mention if youre going up there and itll be cooler and windy there as well. 40s and 50s on the thames. Palo alto 46 sonoma is 43 cool degrees, a lot of mid 40s, especially to the north, and the fog is increasing rapidly on the coast, even though the air aloft is cool and the temps inland are cooler. That will be the theme today. Partly sunny, mostly sunny, windy and cooler. Highs coming down 60s and 70s. All right. Allies here have had a couple little, little ummps out there. Whats going on now. Theyve been cleared. So overall things look pretty good out there. We have some nice light friday traffic. As you can see from our traffic maps here. Taking a wide view of the east bay commute. Theres nothing really that you have to worry about. We can move the maps down a little bit, see the south bay looks good as well. Heres a live picture from our aa Traffic Cameras showing the commute on westbound highway for bay point. There is a note about some sort of box truck stalled in the slow lane at bailey road in the westbound direction, but theres not a lot of people driving on this stretch or not as many as wed see usually during the middle of the week. So its not leading to any severe backups just yet. Well keep an eye on it. Highway 24 in lafayette, heading towards the caldecott tunnel. No problems there. East shore freeway looks good as well. And when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are not on yet, so you will have an easy drive getting onto the span. 530 lets go back to the desk.
