An incident in Contra Costa County can serve as a reminder of the importance of water safety. As temperatures start to heat up. Firefighters say a rescue swimmer found a young boy in the water off Bethel Island. Ktvu alice wertz joins us live to explain what happened. Alice good morning. Ali. Yes, it was yesterday afternoon. The warm weather, small young child, five year old boy was pulled from the water in Bethel Island. Contra costa fire responded and told us what happened. The child was rescued by one of our rescue swimmers and was then transported by ground to sutter delta hospital. And may is water Safety Awareness month and the warm weather ushering us into summer is a good reminder for parents, families, anyone who has small children around to keep them within an arms reach. This is the first really warm day so far this year, so parents and adults who are watching children need to keep in constant visual contact of their children, and when the child is by the water, they need to be wearing a life vest and wear that life vest correctly. All people who are by the water should be wearing a life vest because if you fall in, it only takes one gulp of water to submerge and drown. Now, according to the American Academy of pediatrics, they say you should always have a child within an arms reach when youre around the water and whether its swimming pools, watercraft or or just along the shoreline. Were here in benicia this morning, you always want to make sure that children are safe. Thats especially true for all parents, but also for mothers on mothers day. Im live in benicia. So were just kind of lucky that were getting such a good view of it. Weve never seen the Aurora Borealis before, and so i thought, hey, if i can see it from here, that would be fantastic. The bay areas top astronomers also stayed up late to keep a close eye on the dazzling red, green and purple lights. What we are seeing is charged particles in the solar wind entering our atmosphere and interacting with the oxygen in our atmosphere. Now, there is a potential downside to this spectacular light show. Scientists were warning this solar storm could disrupt power and Communication Systems across the country, but so far, there are no reports of any problems. Its sad. Theres a lot of history here, like i said, i spent the first 15 years of my life here at this church, and, im glad to see you survived. Although it was a lot of damage. Firefighters say no one was hurt. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire in San Francisco, a community all coming together to show their support for a longtime resident and beloved dog walker, who says he was a victim of a racial hate crime twice. Ktvu Bailey Ocarroll has more from alamo square park. I thought it was a dream like, am i dreaming when i step back, like away. See my sorry, sorry sorry. Then i look at it and i like i said, a few cuss words. Thats fine. Whats up . What are you doing . Good Terry Williams is a longtime resident of San Franciscos alamo square park neighborhood, and a well known dog walker in the area. When he walks around the neighborhood and, like dogs, hear his keys jingle, they all get excited. Hes like santa claus on the block. So yeah, they love him. On the morning of april 26th, he received a package. When he opened it, he couldnt believe his eyes. The first thing i saw was the dog, the noose around him i aint seen. Im like, i aint seen. Knew what it was. Im like, then i saw the picture of me and all the like. They just started register. Okay, this is directly toward me. Then i was like, then i was worried about trying to get it out the way because my niece and nephew, terry, was shipped a doll with a noose wrapped around it. Nine days later, another one showed up. Attached was a message and picture of himself. Im not being my normal self. Its draining me. I want to be like im carefree. Walk around. Hey, how you doing now . Im like, im whos what . I dont know whos looking around, whos what. Im trying not to be that way, but its kind of hard not to. Today, neighbors rallied around their beloved terry to take a stand against racism. Hes i mean, obviously very warm and welcoming. Hes a gregarious and fun loving guy. So anytime i take cane out for a walk, im looking for terry because i want to walk with him. I want to talk with him. He always just brightens up my day. Everyone we spoke to echoed that same message and their shock and disgust that Something Like this would happen at all. Let alone to someone who always goes out of their way to help others. Now they want city officials and sfpd to take action and find the person responsible. Do Something Like do something because theres no Police Presence ever. And especially when somebodys life is being threatened, like, just do something, please. Fundraising efforts for terry are underway. Organizers telling us that the money will go towards purchasing security cameras for terrys house, then relocating his parents for safety reasons. And the remainder of that money will go toward installing security cameras throughout the neighborhood in San Francisco. Im Bailey Ocarroll, ktvu, fox two news. All righty, bailey, thank you for that. And it looks like just was a great day yesterday. Yes. Were just talking about an angel island. The weather was yes, Beautiful Day at angel island yesterday i went with my son and some of his classmates to a little field trip out there, but i dont know if you want to go boating right now, but maybe in a couple of hours all that fog should go away, so to speak. Yeah, thats a really good point. Well made. There because we have a little bit of a deeper marine layer this morning. And thats going to keep us partly sunny around the central bay along the coast. Pretty cloudy today. Gray skies, peeks of sun, temperatures coming down along the coast and into the bay. Still staying mighty warm in our inland areas, but down from the 90s. So we will not experience 90 degree readings today. It will be a bit on the breezy side. Were looking out towards rio vista and theres that great slate that we have been alluding to, and the camera is wavering just a tad there. Well get to those temperatures. And also a peek at the wind speeds, but right now its 52 degrees in alamo willow glen sporting 60. Otherwise, most reporting stations are in the 50s. Now. The winds are pretty breezy this morning towards Travis Air Force base and also in fairfield. Calm conditions in nicasio and novato. Now, meanwhile, the winds are calm in Mountain View and at Mineta International airport. But a bit of a breeze in Half Moon Bay. So we do have the low clouds and the fog just hanging tight to the coast of california. Upstream this is an area of low pressure thats going to just make a dent in the huge dome of High Pressure. And as it does that, it cools us down with the influx of that marine layer pushing inland. So heres a look at our future cast this morning. You could see for the first time this weekend we have seen the clouds penetrate the central bay and march towards our inland areas. But everything retreats about 1 00 but hangs tight to the coast. And at 105 today, we do have the San Francisco giants playing host to the cincinnati reds. They won big yesterday. Were going for two in a row. Game Time Temperature at 63 degrees. The winds will blow out of the west southwest at 13mph. And yeah, tomorrow the dodgers come into town. How about that . If youre getting away for this mothers day, 95 degrees in sacramento. Back in through stockton. Were talking about 64 and the greater lake tahoe area. High 80s in throughout fresno. Lots of fo
