Were live in downtown san jose. Jesset gary, ktvu, fox two news. Well have more on this coming up at 530. Now, back to you. Certainly a contentious issue and a lot one. Jesse thank you. n well, three people are facing with an organized retail theft crime ring that targeted high end retail stores, not only here in the bay area, but also Southern California attorney general rob bonta today announcing 27 felony charges against those individuals. He says the burglaries happened between december of 2022 and last february in alameda, santa clara, los angeles, orange, san diego and riverside counties. The smash and grab style robberies resulted in more than 300,000 in losses for those stores, sometimes the suspects would use as they ran out to force their way out of a retail store. Other times,c they overwhelmd the stores with large numbers of people in disguise, brazenly ransacking high end products, least two of the suspects do, a have prior felony convictions in los allegedly out on bail when the recent robberies occurred. In the coming decades, california will see Significant Growth in its population of people who are retirement age, spand thats putting the focus n special rules for california drivers who are age 73 and up. Ktvu tom vacar joining us now live with perspective, tom, thats an important perspective. The question is the United States, what do we do with thosn california . Well california drivers 70 years old and up are subject to special conditions when their drivers license expires or theyre applying for a new one. Though the primary concern is to detect physical or mental decline, many seniors approach the process with fear. Attorney rodney gould has represented many the test. The written test multiple times. Many people feel that it will shut them off from society if they no longer allowed to drive. So ive seen the test. Ive looked at many of them. Theres some always some questions on there that just make zero sense. And they have really almost nothing to do with driving. A lot of Senior Citizens dont shakec now. E getting a fair sp coming up, five more on tht law actually requires. And howe family, friends or concerned citizens can get a truly aget impaired driver reexamined back to you and tom. I mean, just to be clear, with all this age alone would someone to lose their license. Absolutely not. The state realized a long time ago that that is an unfair way to do things. But when you do start putting these restrictions on, while they may make some sense, that may not make sense anymore due to the way peopleuhave changed in the last 50 years in terms of medicine and other things. All right. Tom baker, live in our newsroomn tom. Thank you. Well, there are moves to make more electric vehicle charging stations available in San Franciscoc. City leaders today announcing for installing charging stations in several neighborhoods across the cityn transportation officials are conducting a citywide assessment locations. N and maintenance of these charging stations as well, they say San Francisco currently needs more than 5000 chargers by the year 2030 to meet the increasing demand. By strategically deploying we going to democratize democracy, rise access to Clean Mobility Solutions and pave the way for a greener future. The results from the citywide assessment are due by june, and city leaders say they hope to stations by next year. Okaym shifting now to talk about our weather here as we giveuyou a live shot here out across the oakland estuary francisco, it was kind of a cloudy start to the day here, through as weve seen over the last few to kind of continue with thisc pattern her, markl for the next few days. But there is a storm headed our way. Yeah. In fact, we are going to see a pattern change alex develop as early as friday. And that means more clouds and some more rain showers. At least the possibility some rain back in the forecast. So while it could be a little deceiving, youre thinking, oh, a beautiful out there sunshine and its almost spring, butuits not. Wereugoing to be talking about spsome cooler clouds and some r showers as well. Speaking of a change in the seasons, we have a few more hours of winter. As you can see earth in its path around the sun. As we come in closerl we do evening, so just about four hours from now. From now at 806. So the official start of spring as we move into the evening hours. Right now, though, this looks like a summertime pattern with lots of low clouds and fog near the coastline today, and te clearing into the afternoon hours as we back out the maps. This we can still see some storms out here in the pacific, and we are talking about a big change. uill definitelyubring in the clouds and also up for weekend. So weuhave, lets say two more days, wednesday and thursday to prepare for the rain coming back in far as current numbers, inland out walnut creek and livermore in oe reportingc 71 degrees. Heres t view from our south bay camera, i believe, where we do have a nice look at all those green hillsides showing up here. So some haze in the in the bay area sky, a little bituof some haze. But overall partly sunny conditions and overnight temperatures will be in the 40s. We could have some patchy fog out there to start things off, so not on the chilly side. Widespread 40s for your for your wednesday morning. So here is the forecast model see its picking up on someu can patchy low cloud cover. Tomorrow morning it will bring in some be tomorrow we could have at least cloudy skies. But look what is developing as we head toward friday and into the weekend, we are talking about some rain back in the bay area forecast. No nothing major, but still a big pattern change with a cool down headed our way. Well have more on this with your full update coming up in just a little bit. All right. We will see you then. Mark. For today focusing on ai security a new effort spearheaded by nvidia a major topic of conversation at that south bay conference that is going on this week. Up next on the four, well be joined live by a cybersecurity expert to talk about a ai. uplus, as we spotlight womens empowerment, this month, a new survey shows there is still a ways to go in the workplace. Stay with us. An expert is going to join me live kelly has two choices. A Honey Baked Ham thats been slow smoked, hand glazed, and spiral sliced. Or, a kelly baked ham. Nobody wants a kelly baked meal, not even kelly. Every bite is a celebration with the Honey Baked Ham company. A great deal of focus on security in the growing Artificial Intelligence industry. The santa clara based chipmaker week with oracle thats focused on whats known as sovereign ai. This is when individual countries or companies produce Artificial Intelligence using their own infrastructure and workforce, allowing them to keep the data secure. Jensen huang, the founder and ceo of nvidia, called sovereign ai a cultural and economic imperative. For more on this effort, we are joined now by ahmed napa engineeringc professor at San Jose State University and a cybersecurity expert professor. We always appreciate the time. Its good to see you lay this out for us. If you could. What are the advantages for governments and companies to set up their own separate ai systems . Good to see you, alex, its the things that you can see, strategic growth. Because now you ownc everything. The infrastructure, as you mentioned in the in the report is you owne hardware. You have the people are, you know, from the country also the data you are using is. And beside that, when the institution thatuyoure working with, with its schools, universities or companies are within the country, so you have complete control on the flow of the ai. All right. So i know that the ceo of nvidia described these fs for various companiesc or business entities here. What is it going to take for countries like the unitedustates to create their their own broad ai systems . What is this going to look like . We areureally have, you know, spmost of the pieces for the for the sovereign ai because the hardware is here in the United States, the, were talking aboue united of, controlling the other pieces, which is, you know, likec the semiconductors that use the chips that you use in the in thc ai. We need to manufacture them inside the United States and the, the data itself, the we control different parts or different different areas. So when you talk about, United States is almost there. Somethingusimilar to that. All right. So what this partnership thas announced at the conference ands it going to mean to combine oracles Cloud Computing systems with nvidias powerful super chips that weve been talking a lot about, that, that are obviously crucial to operating ai systems . Its more power and processing because the chips or the super chips that, mentionedy isc actually something huge. And youre talking powerful than th. Thats the one available now in the market, with the thats theg when you talk about the cloud, infrastructure from, from oracles, you are giving them the placec and the infrastructue where they can use the chips and now start the process. Whats left is the talents and the data. And this is something they can fill and the mix and is that going to sort of democratize ai in a sense for, you know, countries that are that dont kind of resources as, lets say, the United States . uwell, theuproblem with thel with the sovereign ai is actually exactly what you mentioned. Its, its somehow its isolating countries because they are running within their own speed and their ai with ther countries, unow you are reaching out or reaching out to outside the country. Now sovereign ai tt whole idea of sovereign ai isthe not to rely on other countries just in case something happened. Then youre going to shut you down completely and then you are paralyzed. When it help me understand this. I mean, if my ai system here in this country scraping the internet looking for data, as we know, ai systems do, is it goinguto be able to, to access information still from other countries its still its still going to be were still going to have sharing of data in some sense. Right. Were not going to all just be in ouruown ai bubbles. That is true. Itsc a its a matter of the second stage the g when collecting the data ist coming for all the systems, machine learning, ai, they do thatc all the time. You go to te next stage, which is cleaning o cleaning the data. What for, wha you included in, processing and training the ai. This is when you decide about which country you want to have ahmed napa, engineering professor at san jose state leae conversation there. Appreciate your insightn thank you. Thank you alex. Well, it is a painful condition that affects millions all across the country. Coming up next here on the forum, going patientuto talk about the challenges of endometriosis and why experts say there is more hope now than ever t s its a condition which is very complex and a chronic inflammatory disease. According to the world health organization. It affects roughly 190 Million People worldwide. So were going to spend some time with doctors. Mia yamamoto init minimally, minimally invasive st kaiser san leandro. Thank you et physician and endometriosis patient. So ladies, really appreciate you both being here. Doctor, i want to start with you. What . Explain a little bit more about what endometriosis is and some of the symptoms associated with it. Sure. Thank you. So endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition like you mentioned. And its most the tricky aspect is that not everybody with painful periods actually has endometriosisn and not everyone with endometriosis actually has, dysmenorrheauor po spabout diagnosing it then. Your obugyn. Thats the best way to do that and go over pain witl activity, pain with bladder or bowel function, pain with movement and sometimes spinfertility. T okay. And what are some of the options. So that really depends on where each person is in their life. Quite readyufor children, then the goalumight be menstrual suppression and then evaluation for pain disorders such as pelvic floor pain. If youre older and youre ready to have a child, then we might need to do surgery. We might need to have you doctor. Okay, joan, i want to now pivot to your story because you wereudiagnosed at the age of 26. What were your your symptoms and your treatment i mean, it really started when i was about in the teenagec i started having really painful periods at that time. But at the age of 26, i started to have these really severe pelvic painn and thats when i reached out to myuob some testing and they took an ultrasound. And thats when they found i had a large, cyst inc te ovaryc at that time. So they didngt know, but it was so large that i needed surgery. And then once they did that surgery, thatgs when they found i had endometriosis and that that they ovary was anuendometriosis, which is basically a cyst that was caused by the endometriosis. Okay. Souyou get through that, but thenuyou had a fast forward, you know, me and my husband, were trying to build a family and sptheresualways that, you know, kind of worry the back of your head with this endometriosis. And then thankfully, we did get pregnantt unfortunately led to a miscarriage. And after that i started to have severe pelvic pain. And so thats when i reached out to my ob gyn again. And thats when they found out i had another and so thats when we consulted doctor yamamoto suspicion, oh, this might be your endometriosis is again spcausing the cyst. And so she recommended that we undergo of remove that cyst and kind of further evaluate. Okay. So this has been a long journey yes. Because we are so happy. And your sweet littlec boy. Threeof months old, right . Yes. You were concerned, though, aboutuhis smile is just so beautiful. You were concerned, though, about fertility whenever you got the endometriosis diagnosis, for sure. I mean, theres like a, you know, when youre told that theres 30 to 5p chance of infertility with endometriosis as well as i forgot to mention thatc take out one of my ovaries on my first surgery. Ofd together definitely gave me a lot of anxiety. And, youc know, even during pregnancy, some apprehension about it. Yeah, i imagine thats pretty common because as you mentioned this, uthis diagnosis does sometimes lead to infertility. So talk about that connection between the two. Sp yeah. So because its an cn cause scarring between the fallopian tubes which is how you get pregnant. So the egg goes from the ovary into the tube and into the uterus. If your are scarred you cant get pregnant. The other condition is if you have a really large it cy affect ovulation. uso it might oa way to get you pregnant. Okay. So what is your advice to women at home this afternoon . I would say that if youre having really painful periods nl and you your obt gyn and maybe its not, ubut something needs to beu. Yeah, and what about you . What is your message to you that ive been through, are a lt more understanding about the like endometriosis Specialty Care available. I think that definitely you know, i want to tell other people that that there are ways that we can manage endometriosis and that, you know, it is possible to get pregnant, even despite the disease. T yeahl have such a beautiful family. But i imagine that its got to be, you know, coming from it, because youre also a doctor. Yes. From that other side isualso a little different for you to, to be a doctor, but to also be a patient now. Yes of course, because, you littleubit more understanding t. Its kind of 5050, right. Because then you know, that there are liket spmoreuadvancement, more understanding about the disease itself possible. But then as a patient, you know, as a person, theres always still that anxiety and fear that you s conversation though, doctor, what are some of the misconceive optionsc aboutuendometriosis tht you this afternoon . I think the tricky part is just diagnosis. Its actually very difficult to diagnose. So the easiest way is and so youuknow, if youre having issues then you need to see your ob gyn and ask for a second opinion. And there are specials out there at kaiser we have 16 specialists that help with these kind of patients. Well, it really is great. Its an Important Message that youre both sharing today. Really appreciate it. Guess your bodyuand to consult with professionals. If you do feel so
