Of maine where a massive manhunt continues as authorities search for a man accused of killing 18 people and injuring 13 others. This week, rebecca castor live in lewiston, maine to bring us the latest. Rebecca. Hi gasia. A Law Enforcement source tells fox that police found a rifle in the car belonging to the suspect and they also have his cell phone in their possession, which they found in his home during their search warrant last night. Many maine schools, government buildings and businesses remain closed friday. Officials is urging residents to continue sheltering in place as hundreds of Law Enforcement officers search for mass shooting suspect robert cod. The 40 year old alleged shooter, a certified firearms instructor and a member of the us army reserves, is facing an arrest warrant for multiple counts of murder after police say he went on a rampage wednesday night shooting and killing victims inside a Bowling Alley and local bar. Were going to work as hard as we can, as fast as we can, with as many resources as we can to try to bring some kind of closure. Maine state police say cod was admitted to a Mental HealthTreatment Facility over the summer after reporting he was hearing voices and threats to shoot up a military installation thursday day, the fbi raided cods home where authorities found a suicide note from the alleged shooter addressed to cod son across the street cards, neighbor expressed dismay, saying the last time he saw cod, he was helping his father cut hay on their farm. Its crazy. I have a neighbor that did something really horrible, leroy walkers son was among those killed. He says police tell him his son tried to confront the shooter with a kitchen knife when he was shot twice in the stomach. Its the worst thing thats ever happened in these two cities and gasia, i wanted to note that ive unfortunately covered several Mass Shootings in the last year, and usually by now we see somewhat of a makeshift memorial usually pop up in a town. But here we have not seen that yet. And thats because most people here are still sheltering in place. So that just goes to show you that this grieving process here is really still on hold. Gasia so two full days now of people essentially being told to stay in their homes. Schools are closed. Were coming into the weekend, have authorities given any indication of how long this state may last. Well police have said that this investigation could take several days, but we believe theyll keep this shelter in place, order in effect, until they have good evidence that they do not suspect that robert cod is in the surrounding area. And theres no longer a danger to the public. Rebecca castor live for us in lewiston, maine. Thank you. Here at home, a new task force is investigating opioid linked deaths in San Francisco. Well, you can now report car break ins as they happen in the city of oakland through a direct message on social media. The Police Department launched new social media accounts as a way to try something different. Ctvs james torres explains why police need your help to make it work. Car break ins in oakland have gone up 36 since last year. Police say more than 11,000 reported so far this year. These burglaries are negatively affect all of us. The Ripple Effect has led to people hesitating to patronize our businesses, restaurants, shops and visit venues within the city of oakland again. As a result, at the decrease in revenue has led to businesses suffering financial hardships, and businesses have had to close. Thats why they are launching this. The handle at oakland auto burg. They say if you see a car breakin happening , hit the direct message button and send them details. Officers say try to give a description of the criminal. Add in some information about the victims car license plate numbers as well. And if its safe, snag a photo or video and pass it along. Were going to have staff monitoring the platforms and theyll be able to relay the intelligence or the information to our surveillance teams that were going to have in the city. This is just a trial run. These accounts will only last throughout the weekend. But officers want to see if a different approach can help criminals park, break a window or steal and move on. Most of the time, in less than 10s. Police say theyre able to move so fast because investigators think these thieves have technology that can help detect which cars have electronics in them. So to catch a criminal, they need a little bit of luck to be in the right place at the right time. This Pilot Program will try to change that by the time they get the dial tone for the phone starts ringing, the cars already gone. It could be breaking into another car. So what we realize is we have to be creative. Think outside of the box and look at ways where we can get the information or the intel of whos doing these crimes at a much rapid pace, almost instantaneous, because this is a pilot. The Police Department will deactivate the x and instagram accounts at the end of the weekend unless officers feel this is making enough of a big difference. But they say this is meant for just reporting purposes and they ask anyone, if you see a break in happening, do not engage with the criminals. Reporting in oakland, im james torres, ktvu fox two news. Oakland police are investigating a crash that injured a Police Officer this morning. San lorenzo resident Addie Campbell is making budget cuts because of her sky high bill. Its tripled. I know its in three hundreds, close to 400 now. And thats for how big is your house . And i have a one bedroom apartment. I dont even go out like i used to anymore. Yeah you definitely have to make cuts. I started doing my own hair. According to the report, wildfire mitigation, transmission and distribution investment costs and the rooftop Solar Incentives are three primary reasons for the price hikes. In a statement provided to ktvu this morning, pga said this. Were undergrounding 350 miles of power lines by the end of this year alone. As part of our commitment to underground 10,000 miles of electric lines. This work is on precedented and represents the largest effort in the us to underground lines as a wildfire Risk Reduction measure. I dont know what im going to do.
