Revenge travel is a term used for traveling after not being able to during the covid pandemic. The report finds that while the us has not seen an influx or drop so far, experts say the number is expected to decline after say much of this is due to inflation. And the rising cost of traveling the rising cost of everything, everything. So if your Household Budget is being affected by inflation, then discretionary things go away, right. I have to buy food have to pay the rent. I mean up to a gas in the car, and thats all costing more. So yeah, thats much more important, but i mean, i still travel that look in your eye like next budget it in. Youre not like reckless it wasnt like just like, oh, yeah , go there, but you have to budget that stuff in but i havent completely cut it out. Yes, things are different now, like your stories and ideas about your recent trip. That was pretty cool. I love that kind of stuff. Things. It was a beautiful trip. I went to jackson hole. Wyoming grand tetons, yellowstone. Thats what hes talking about. In case youre wondering we are living through you. Andre was actually a wedding at a ranch took advantage of it took advantage of it and met up with some friends that weve known for a wallet. When i saw these things for the past couple of years, ive been hearing from like wedding industry people that i think they used to be like a 25 like youd invite 100 people youd expect. 25 of them not to show up. People are saying people go to weddings now because they want they want to party. They want to get together with people they havent seen. So maybe i wouldnt have gone to your wedding two years ago. But now, andre, im going. I havent seen these friends in years. And ive known him working in tv station back years and years ago. Yeah, it was. It was. It was like a reunion. Thats exactly right. You went so glad you went. All right. Federal government facilities are open as normal after congress narrowly averted a Government Shutdown this weekend. House speaker Kevin Mccarthys deal to avoid a Government Shutdown by working with democrats has prompted Florida Republican congressman matt gates to say hell introduce a measure this week to remove mccarthy as speaker. This time next week. Kevin mccarthy is still speaker of the house. It will because be because the democrats bailed him out and he can be there. Speaker not mine. Mats probably planned this from the day i ran for speaker. While the efforts of gates to remove mccarthy may get the support of a handful of republicans, he will need democratic votes to make it happen. Alright tough fleet week in San Francisco officially starts today and i almost did not happen at this year had congress not reached a last minute budget agreement over the weekend, the u. S military would not have been allowed to take part in fleet week. But now the festivities can go on as planned to starting at noon today with a free concert by us Navy Musicians and all the way through to sundays final air show. The Navy Spokesperson says thats good for the public and the military members who look forward to the event. If we were not able to come up showers and marines would definitely have been. Um um um sad by that they you know, weve been working towards fleet week for 10 months now there will be concerts performed by us navy and marine corps musicians all around separatists. Co tours of ships start tomorrow along the waterfront, then the very popular air show featuring the navys blue angels precision flight team. That starts friday, but they will be participating in practicing all week. Business owners expect a much needed financial boost from fleet week visitors. Pending on how many ships we get. And what if we get a carrier across the street, it can increase business anywhere between 10 to 25. Which is much needed nowadays. This year, the u. S navy is dedicating the blue angels air show to the life and legacy of the late senator feinstein. Happening today. Bart says its interim police chief will stay on the job permanently. The Transit Agency plans to formally make that announcement later this morning. Ktvu is james torrez is live in lafayette with more details. Good morning, james. Sound good morning to you. We know barts greatest commitment has been the safety and security of his passengers on those trains, and they say the interim chief Kevin Franklin has been doing a pretty good job of that, so he will stay on the job. This comes. Of course we know back in april when bards chief position vacated after then chief at alvarez retired. Franklin was then named the interim and since then, bart says its Police Department made more than 300 felony arrest. Thats the highest number since the covid 19 pandemic. They also brought down emergency call response times to under four minutes. Also recently started using fewer cars on its trains, which made rides more crowded and allow for officers to walk through a little faster and a little more frequently. Those changes are getting some mixed reviews. Ive noticed Police Walking up and down the trains when im in my commuting hours. Yeah yeah. How does that make you feel better . Better actually a little worse again because were just more packed together. Franklin is a 27 year veteran of the Police Department. When he was first hired, he committed to hiring more Police Officers in push for that crisis intervention specialist team. This announcement will become official later today. Thats when barts general manager will formally introduced Kevin Franklin as chief. Thats not to happen at 12 oclock noon. Were live this morning from lafayette. Im james torres, ktvu fox two news, james. Thank you. Lets get over to Steve Paulson with your weather forecast. Steve, ive been listening. High pressure is moving in. Temperatures are going to go up. Thank you for the accolade at the top of the show. Appreciate that. Gotcha likewise with traffic, i try and learn as much as i can from. You had one upper 30 this morning, middletown. Now again, theyre up a higher elevation. I think tomorrow we might get a few more especially we get some clearing skies and no wind, but near qatari 42 mangrove in their boulder creek, windsor, sand and selma all at 43 this morning. Hollisters 44 beautiful sonoma woodson. And 45 cool. There were many 46 47 40 eights in their early october heat to warm to hot, you know, lets face it. High pressure is not really been over us for almost a year, and i mean strong High Pressure. Weve had some, of course, but september came in below average on the temperatures, in fact, out Sacramento Valley about 3. 5 to 5 degrees below normal, but desta was five degrees below normal for september. So you knew High Pressure to come back, and its starting. Its move today, but more so i think youll feel it tomorrow unless youre inland. So bump these highs up a little bit some low nineties look likely thursday looks to be the warmest day if you will, without a roaring eastern northeast breezes tough to get that warm. But i think after today, well see a smaller coverage in the fog bank, so coastal temps starting tomorrow will begin to warm up fifties sixties on some of the temps. I mean, it wont take much to, you know to warm up after a while, unseasonably cool weekend, but theres plenty of low clouds out there, but i do think its going to get chewed up a little sooner. By the time we get to wednesday and thursday, the powerhouse low that we had on the weekend, giving us the fall weather is now into Salt Lake City and dramatic Las Vegas National Weather Service at 8 10 of an inch of rain. There was some high elevation snow, so it did battle as advertised. Some areas had some pretty good ring and others not so much, but temperatures were pretty cool. Warmer though. This week is the main message here. Not much today, near average on the attempts tuesday, theyll go above maybe all the way into friday does look like a cooling trend starts a little bit on saturday, then more so on sunday, maybe hit the rain a week from today next monday. But warmer bayside inland, a little breeze up in the hills but warmer temps again. It doesnt look like you know, strong High Pressure system, but itll give us temperatures that will be in the upper eighties to near 90 through about friday. I think we start to ease up a teeny bit saturday cooler on sunday. You guys very pretty, steve. Thank you. Theres still no resolution to the United Auto Workers strike next year on the nine when workers are doing this week. Amid an expansion of their action against ford and General Motors. Then were about to talk live with San Franciscos economist about the state of the city when it comes to empty Office Buildings and vacant storefronts. Whats being done to reverse a troubling trend that is getting nationwide attention next . Creators we handcraft every batch of our delicious popcorn like our creators, cheese and caramel mix great on their own even better together. Try creators handcrafted small batch popcorn. Its time to remodel your bathroom. But you dont want the hassle or the worry of getting it finished battle against crime and open air drug use. Those persistent issues are far from solved. Lets talk more about whats happening by welcoming San Franciscos chief economist, ted egan, to the ninth. Thank you for being with us. My pleasure. Lets start in downtown San Francisco and the Office Vacancy rate hovering right around 30. And you say it hasnt hit bottom yet. Its probably going to continue to go up over the next year, year and a half. Theres a lot of leases that are expiring. We havent seen a lot of new leasing activity. So i do think it probably wont go up much higher, but it is probably going to go up from here. Okay so what happens when we have that many empty Office Buildings . Clearly a lot of Major Companies are trying to get their workers back to the office. Its not happening at the rate city leaders want to see it. It is gradually improving. But youre right, its not the rate that we would like to see. We have had been hit very hard by the remote work trend, and thats leading to fewer people downtown on a given day. A lot of people say if those workers arent ever going to come back, lets do Something Else with that space. A lot of people very interested in converting those Office Buildings to housing. Clearly we need housing. Its not a simple. Okay, great. This will be a bedroom. Thatll be your bathroom. Their kind of. Walk us through some of the intricacies and the costs involved. Well, not every Office Building is ideal for turning into housing, and it can be very costly in some cases. The other thing thats particularly true in downtown San Francisco is the Housing Market is depressed. So even the houses that are already built downtown are selling for a lot less. And the Overall Economic climate for new Housing Construction is not great. So i do think if we see office to residential conversion, its going to be a few years in the future. So if im a builder, do i just say im just going to wait this out . Im going to wait till that hits rock bottom, then ill scoop it up. Or whats the thinking when it comes to what happens to these buildings . Well, we are only now starting to see Office Buildings sell and theyre selling at a greatly reduced rate, you know, 60, 70 below what they were worth before the pandemic. That may not be quite enough for a housing developer to want to buy them. The buyers seem to be office investors. So a housing developer would either say, well, theyre better. Theyre better sites in San Francisco that arent Office Buildings i could build on or they may just wait. As you say. I see. So those Office Buildings, though empty, may stay as Office Buildings. What impact do you think . I, i know there has been some commitment by companies to come to the city and fill some of those spaces as well. I seems to be a booming area within tech San Franciscos Tech Industry are not in the office very often, but those companies are still growing and we hope that they will increase their Office Demand in the future. I think people have to be realistic about the amount of space that i could reasonably take up and how much vacant space were talking about, maybe 1,000,000ft s could be taken by ai companies in the next couple of years. And we have 30,000,000ft s thats vacant. I think about the beginning of the pandemic. And i think how fortunate so many workers and ill include myself in this were to just pick up your laptop and start working from home. My paychecks kept coming. My business, if you will, kept humming along. It was great. Now that were o
