Afternoon. Im alex savage. And im heather holmes. Todays discussion coming between several Campaign Events. A christian captain joining us now live in San Francisco with the president will attend a fundraiser, another one later this evening. Christian boy, its been a busy two days here in the bay area for the president. Yeah, absolutely. Kind of a whirlwind trip through San Francisco, as you said, he is on his way over to a Campaign Event right now. He spent the night here in San Francisco and about half the day at the Fairmont Hotel where we are right now in the citys nob hill. Now california street, one of the citys major east west routes, was closed throughout most of the day. Crowds lined the street, hoping for a peek of the president ial motorcade. The president did meet with members of the Scientific Community with a focus on ai, Artificial Intelligence and the promises and potential problems. It could bring. The president saying it could have a major impact on every scientific field from climatology to science. As President Biden said, embracing science will help keep america competitive with the actions we take together can help protect peoples health. Theyre going to promote innovation, and were going to win the economic competition of the 21st century. In my humble opinion, the president also saying his administration will be making investments in Patient Safety initiative that will help develop new antibiotics and fight drug resistant bacteria. The president again, has two Campaign Stops here in San Francisco and then is scheduled to fly out of sfo shortly before seven this evening. All right, christian, i know a lot of people really concerned about the stalemate right now in washington, dc and that possible government shutdown. Were just a few days away from the deadline. Did President Biden touch on that today . Yeah, he sure did. As a matter of fact, he discussed that. He did say that he does not believe that the shutdown is an inevitability. He said that he doesnt think anything really is inevitable in politics. He also addressed some of the dangers that he sees of a possible government shutdown, saying that it could jeopardize a lot of what he called vital work in science, including in terms of Cancer Research and also food safety. So he says that, again, at this point he does not believe it is inevitability. He called on Congressional Republicans is to try to come up with a deal that will work. All right, christian captain, live with the press in nob hill in San Francisco. Christian, thank you. Later on tonight, a smaller pool of republican president ial hopefuls will be taking to the stage in Southern California for the second primary debate. And foxs Rebecca Castro is in simi valley now with a preview, including what to watch for anticipation in growing in california as voters get ready to hear from a smaller pool of republican president ial hopefuls in tonights second primary debate. I would say economy is my biggest thing. Companies dont give the cost of living increases, but the inflation keeps going up. So everything costs more. The economy, education, the border in crime. Just a few of the top issues voters say they want candidates to deliver a clear plan on. Tonight, just some Practical Solutions to some of the problems we see that are out of control. Seven candidates will be working to court voters at Ronald Reagans president ial library in simi valley, florida. Governor ron desantis will be center stage. Its a key position as he continues to lag behind front runner former President Trump in national polling. I think he needs to set himself apart from donald trump and im really looking for him to talk about the economy, education and border security. As for trump, he will once again be skipping the debate instead, hell be courting striking blue collar voters in michigan. Also notably absent, former arkansas governor asa hutchinson, who didnt qualify for the second debate, though he delivered his own tough words against trump while campaigning in detroit, a new york judge found donald trump was guilty of persistent and repeated fraud. Today, im making the same finding on President Trump that he is guilty of persistent and repeated fraud on the american workers. We can do better. Hutchinson also says if he doesnt get 4 in polling by thanksgiving, he may consider dropping out of the race. Reporting from simi valley, california, rebecca castor, fox news. Well, new jersey senator bob menendez is free on bond this afternoon after pleading not guilty to those federal corruption charges. Menendez and his wife appeared together today before a federal judge there in new york city. Nadine menendez also pleaded not guilty. Federal prosecutors accused them of accepting gold bars. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, as well as a car. It was all allegedly in exchange for the senator using his influence to aid egypts government and interfere in criminal investigations. In the new jersey democrat says the money was from a personal savings account that he held in case of emergencies. If he decides he wants to go before a jury and force the government to prove its case and poke holes in it, he has every right to do that. Menendez is also rejecting calls from within his own caucus for him to resign. He was charged in 2015 in a similar but unrelated corruption case. If convicted in this case, menendez faces up to 45 years in prison. New at four a Bay Area Congress man has introduced a bill to address what he calls the student loan crisis. John garamendi, along with Pennsylvania Republican brian fitzpatl, are reintroducing a bill that would allow students with federal loans to refinance their debt. They say the average 2023 graduate will owe more than 37,000 in debt at interest rates, far higher than most other loans. The measure would also allow borrowers in certain medical fields to defer payments until completion of their program. Among other benefits, the university of california is among the many backers of that bill. Well San Francisco could be close to getting a wnba team. As ktvus Bailey Ocarroll tells us, the Golden State Warriors Ownership Group now working out the final details to bring an Expansion Team to chase center. The wnba could soon be expanding to the bay area. In a statement sent to ktvu, the warriors said, quote, we have had productive conversations with the wnba and look forward to the possible city of being a part of the leagues expansion plans. However it would be premature to assume any potential agreement has been finalized. And Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman said she knows the organization would run an Expansion Team. The right way. I had a chance to sit with joe lacob and he very much said he was going to bring a wnba team to the bay area. Im not surprised. Its a fabulous culture, a fabulous organization , and theyre just different. According to the athletic who first reported the story, the team would be run by the warriors Ownership Group, play games at chase center in San Francisco, but be headquartered at the practice facility in oakland in late july. Ktvu spoke with San Francisco mayor london breed about the possibility of a professional sports team in the city. I think the doors are opening for women and its amazing to see and it helps the next generation know that they can be a part of this world and celebrate it just as much as men. And what better place to do
