Claudine. Thank you so much. Patrol fog is there. Very shallow but its still there. The bases have come down up above that weve had a lot of tropical clouds. Well get more breaks in the clouds today, but its already mild to warm livermore and san jose 67. Warm degrees. Thats some pretty good activity here this morning, although it looks like its starting to kick out of the area. But from eastern solano to Contra Costa County, ive had some reports around concord. Also bay point, pittsburgh, brentwood, antioch, byron, out to Discovery Bay. Good line of thunderstorms, but its out towards tracy heading out to stockton, lodi, rio vista. Now its going to be hot today. Well get more breaks in the clouds. So 6070s by the water, 90 to 100 for those inland sal here. This time hes going to focus on the east bay. Steve, we have a lot of slow traffic on highway four this morning. Its become a lot slower. This is probably correlated with more people being in school these days and thats more people getting on the road early more than we had, lets say, last month. This is a look at 80 westbound beginning to slow down at elsa brandt and theres a small delay at the Richmond Bridge, which is kind of normal for this time on the 80 freeway. It looks okay in berkeley. When you get to the bay bridge, there is a backup that stretches out to about a 10 to 15 minute delay, 701. Lets get right back to the headlines. All right. Our time is 701. Donald trump facing yet another criminal indictment, the fourth indictment for trump so far this year. And the latest case, claudine, is from georgia. It accuses trump and 18 other people of conspiracy to unlawful change. The outcome of the 2020 election and keep President Trump in office. Our time is 703, starting today, authorities in hawaii plan to start releasing the names of the victims from the maui wildfire. 99 people are confirmed dead. At number could go higher as search teams and cadaver dogs have only covered about a quarter of lahaina. An estimated 2000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed. I understand that people want numbers. Its not a numbers game. Right now were at 99 souls and families, so were going to continue to do that. And there were several wildfires across hawaii, but the governor says of the line of fire is the most devastating. It is now 85 contained. Well maui is going to need help from people and organizations all over the us. And one Bay Area Group is raising money and collecting items all week. Lets go to ctvs james torres, joining us live with details about a large drive that is happening in San Francisco. Good morning to you, james. Claudine, good morning to you. Well, right now, were at the corner of north point and mason here this is coming off the bay bridge just past north beach, headed toward fishermans wharf. And you certainly cannot miss this 40 foot trailer here. And you see the sign in front of it. Donate here and injury to one is an injury to all that is a slogan. And the saying for the folks who are running the program here, this is all part of an initiative brought to you by the International Long horsemen and workers union. You see the setup that they have here at this corner, not just in the container, but they have a number of different some of these tote boxes as well, full of all kinds of supplies. You see bathroom supplies here, use shoes, sandals, socks, underwear, clothes, a number of different things, all sorts of supplies. Exactly what you would think of when you think of a Disaster Relief kind of response here. And i want to show you inside the trailer here on the side of it, there you see a sign thats full of signatures. Well wishes, prayers for a number of the victims over on hawaii here. And heres kind of how this all got started. We talked to some of the Union Members here, the Union Representing a number of dock workers throughout the bay area. Theyve connected with parallel unions and parallel dock workers over in hawaii who are telling them directly what it is they need. And ive shown you a number of the supplies there asking for. They say if you are bringing something and you need to choose something, maybe focus a little less on the water, focus a little more on the baby food, the Feminine Hygiene Products and clothes. Now, i had a chance to talk to the business agent for this union who also served as president in the past. And he says, why this is so important to get involved. The goal here is to fill this container to the brim, get this over to hawaii and bring another container here to start another drive. Itll be a long time and it will be a long need for the people over in hawaii who has nothing. We have everything in the United States. Okay. And this fire, the tour about is no good for anyone. And if youre headed out here this morning, theyre asking you to consider all sorts of supplies. You can see a full list of what theyre asking for. Its on our website right now at ktvu. And if you cant make it today, thats perfectly fine. The folks will be here until 8 00 tonight, but theyll also have this container here until friday evening. And then once it gets full and set off and sent to hawaii, theyll continue doing this again until the need they say is met. Were live this morning in San Francisco. Im james torres ktvu fox two news. All right, james, thank you. Time now. 707 today the man accused of fatally stabbing the founder of cash app will be charged. Here we see video of nino moment from an earlier court appearance. Now hes accused of killing bob lee in San Francisco back in april during his preliminary hearing, a judge said there is enough evidence against mo money for him to stand trial. But many being held without bail. If he is convicted, he could get life in prison. And also happening today, the San Jose City council will debate a proposal to create its own power company. Andre sr here now to explain how city leaders are looking at their options. Andre they certainly are, dave. Good morning to you. Matt mehan says todays vote is about the citys ability to create a utility company, including the Economic Impact. He says no final decision will be made before city leaders get a lot more answers to their questions. Even if it passes, the city is not committing itself to having a san jose power or a municipal utility. Like many bay area cities, san jose currently receives its power from pga. Matt mahan says one of the things the council will discuss today is whether creating a city operated utility will eliminate some of the delays in new construction projects, a move that could lead to cost savings as the state expands transmission lines into san jose. If we were to tap directly into those, we may have more direct control over our destiny in terms of prioritizing projects, ensuring they get connected to the grid faster. There could be some real benefits there. Demand for electricity is growing across the state, which explains the new transmission lines. Mehan says those lines are already planned to run through key parts of the city. The primary line were looking at would be coming down from new york through North San Jose near our Wastewater Treatment facility, which is a major energy use. Where would that come down past the airport . Another major user of energy down into the dirt on station area where we anticipate Downtown West eventually being built out. Well the mayor says while there are a lot of positive reasons to consider a san jose power company, he wants to make sure the city does not take on more responsibility than it and its taxpayers can handle. We asked pg officials for a reaction to san joses proposal to create its own power company, but have not yet heard back from them. Well send it back to you, claudine. All right, thanks, andre. Well, todays planned strike by thousands of San Jose City workers is on hold represent lives from the city. And the two unions have been meeting regularly. One of the unions tells us it has reached conceptual terms that will go to the city council today for review and approval. Workers, including librarians, emergency dispatchers, Animal Shelter techs, engineers and airport employees have been working without a contract since the end of june. The workers are demanding better pay parental leave and improved staffing, and traffic is flowing on the east shore freeway again after an overnight crash that left a ups truck perched on the top of the Center Divide on interstate 80. Take a look at that situation. This all happened around midnight. That truck hauling two trailers slammed into the Center Median and then ended up perched on that concrete divide. Crews had to bring in a large crane to fix it. That road only fully reopened just a few minutes ago. And right now, we do have a look at 710 of highway four westbound as youre driving out toward the willow pass grave. We do have some slow traffic there. Its been slow from about pittsburgh. Nothing unusual about this slowdown. I can show it to you on the map. And is pretty slow, but it does get better by the time you reach highway 242 and 680. Only has some minor slowing between concord and walnut creek. 80 is slowing. And also bronte, there is a backup at the Richmond Bridge as normal. And as you drive down to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see some slow traffic at the toll plaza. Its not severe, but there is a backup of about ten minutes there. San mateo and dumbarton bridge look pretty good. Theyre crowded, but the traffic looks good over to the peninsula. Its 711. Lets go back to the desk. Okay, sal, thank you. Well, were moving harmful levels of forever chemicals from Drinking Water. Coming up, the one city leading the way to punish those accountable. And we have details of a 10 billion settlement. And growing criticism over mauis largest Electrical Service provider. Comcast business, powering possibilities. The wildfires in maui. But theres been criticism also of mauis biggest electric Service Provider for not shutting down power lines when the wind gusts reached 80 miles an hour. The president and ceo of hawaii electric is defending that decision and says there are also problems with pga Public Safety power shutoffs here in california. Most utilities dont have that program at. And its worth noting that even in places where this has been used, it is controversial. And its not universally accepted and its seen as it can be seen as creating a hardship for those customers that have medical needs that are higher risk. It would require coordination with First Responders. And as you have probably seen and maybe even reported, that the in lahaina, the electricity powers , the pumps that provide the water and so that was also a critical need during that time. Now, yesterday, the price of stock and Hawaiian Electric dropped out more than 30. And lets say thats because there are big concerns the company may have to pay large amounts to settle lawsuits already filed. And compared to pga, e Hawaiian Electric is a small utility search and Recovery Missions are intensifying in hawaii, and so are the efforts to house the thousands of displaced survivors who lost everything in that historic blaze. Foxs jake alexis is in maui with what crews are doing to help so many people and their animals overcome this trauma. Jake. Claudine. The death toll is climbing here in maui as search efforts press on. And even though supplies are pouring in, Officials Say the road to recovery could take several years. Over 1 Million Pounds of food has been delivered. Food water, diapers, baby formula are going out. Donations are flooding into wildfire ravaged maui, where the deadliest us blaze in over a century tore through the Historic Town of lahaina, destroying more than 2000 structures and killing at least 99 people. A number expected to rise as crews have only searched 25 of the affected area. The devastation inflicting trauma on many survivors. With licensed counselors arriving to the island to help people process their grief. I spoke to one gentleman who lost his home, his wife and kids and his vehicle. And as crews continue to try and locate the hundreds of people still unaccounted for. So do efforts to find the estimated 3000 pets that are also missing. Many injured animals are arriving at shelters needing emergency care. We have seen dogs that have essentially had their their paws all the way burnt down to the bone, but more help is on the way with members of the San Diego Humane Society heading to maui. You go there specifically because were trying to find animals to help them and you find animals and conditions that are you know, its very difficult to see. Hawaiis governor says the wildfire is roughly 85 contained. As crews look to put out the remaining hotspots claudine. All right, jake. Lex is reporting from maui this morning. Thank you so much for that update. Well, californias rob bonta is among 22 state attorneys general opposing a recent settlement in a case involving socalled forever chemicals that are found in Drinking Water that is the name given to potentially hazardous compounds that can exist for many years. The small city of stuart, florida, played a major role in a 10 billion settlement with a Company Three back in june. That followed a nationwide legal battle involving more than 100 local companies that claimed three was contaminating water supplies. In this case, the evidence was pretty overwhelming that by no later than 1983 and knew these chemicals were toxic , the epa has determined exposure to these chemicals can cause cancer and other Serious Health problems. Bonta is among the state attorneys general who want federal courts to reject that settlement. All right. Our time is 719 again. Were going to help you get to where you need to go. So whats happening out there . Well, were looking at commutes that are busy. And of course, we do have the east bay as some of the busiest commutes are there, including interstate 80 slogan elsa bronte. It does get better by the time you reach the macarthur maze and that the bay bridge toll plaza there is a slow traffic no doubt about it 10 to 15 minute delay before you make it onto the span. And then after that it looks good. San mateo and dumbarton bridge still look pretty good. We havent had any incidents out there this morning on those mid bay crossings. We do see some slowing on 880 between hayward and fremont. Not all the way, not all the way through, but it is slow and 101 is slow through mountain view, 85 is slowing as you drive up to highway 17. These are very normal looking backups. 719 lets talk about todays weather here, steve. All right, sal, thank you. Had some activity for a while. It looks like its lifting out, heading to the
