The fire was out in hours, but it did cause problems in the city throughout the day. That fire started around six in the morning in hayes valley right near oak and octavia. Firefighters have remained on the scene all day long, blocking a busy traffic corridor for cbs. Christien kafton has more on the firefight as well as the cleanup. Crews say the fire at this building at oak and octavia started shortly before 6 a. M. The blaze grew quickly due in part to the fact that this 24 unit Apartment Building was still under construction. First and foremost, a building under construction at this level does not have fire safety mechanisms in place, meaning that we dont have the suppression system that we would be normally seeing in a building. Neighbors who live nearby awoke to flames and an enormous fire. I live on the first floor and i look through the window and it was just orange. So i peeled back my curtains and it was a huge, colossal size fire that was all the way up to the roof top. Fire crews say no one was injured, but eight people had to be evacuated as the fire damaged nearby buildings. I personally i felt kind of lost on what to do in that moment, whether it was the right thing to evacuate or to stay indoors. But once we realized that the fire from that construction building, it spread onto the next door, which was one door down from us, thats when we decided to evacuate. Crews worked for more than two hours to contain the fire, but the damage had already been done to the morning commute. Drivers had to reroute around this usually busy intersection. Crews finally allowed some traffic to pass through the area shortly before noon. But with firefighters still on scene to prevent flare ups and an unsteady scaffolding in place, crews kept portions of octavia and oak street closed throughout the day. The Property Owner and the Construction Company are working with City Services to bring a crane in to remove the scaffolding safely. Were going to keep the street closed until that is done. As to the cause of the fire, that is still under investigation. And weve had lots of neighbors tell us that people have broken into this construction site and had previously been sleeping there. Fire crews brought in a dog specifically trained to detect accelerants as part of their investigation to see if this fire was caused by an encampment , a construction accident or some other cause. Neighbors also say that theyve had concerns about other fires in the neighborhood caused by encampments, and they say that they were concerned Something Like this might happen in San Francisco. So were looking at the temperatures from today a little cooler than yesterday in fairfield, which was in the mid 90s a few days ago, down into the mid 80s. Tomorrow fairfield and maybe the low 80s is going to be a little bit cooler tomorrow. So these temperatures below the average, were kind of average for the last few days. And then today we dropped significantly and now were below average and were going to stay that way for the next couple of days. Things will change around. But in the next few mornings youre going to see this even if youre in san jose or in fremont, youre going to see a lot of fog in those inland bay valleys. Further inland than normal. And in all nine bay area counties, just because its a big, deep marine layer, its going to stick around and its going to burn off slow and its going to keep temperatures cool the next couple of days. Thats the story. And then it changes as we get into the weekend when we have that opportunity for the potential anyway, for some weather that will begin to heat up again. So these are the current temperatures. You see the sea breeze and green 80 and fairfield right now in sacramento today was just in the 80s, ten degrees cooler in santa rosa. Right now from where it was last night at this time, theres this big ridge of high pressure. I keep pointing it out only because its you cant miss it now. Its just all that circulation. Were kind of on this side of it. And as that high kind of builds into the southeast, which is doing it pulls away from the west and allows for a cooler flow, thats where we are now. But you know what happens on saturday and sunday . The blob, if you will, the big high bulges this way, a few hundred miles or a couple hundred miles, and it pushes the heat back into the valley. So thats why were going to see a warm up. Its a real oversimplification, but thats the basics. So heres the fog and low cloud for right now. You can see it all the way in going through the nicosia gap up around point res. You see it down around to pigeon point and youll see it again tomorrow morning. Heres the forecast for tomorrow morning. Look at that fog push. Lots of it and then burns off. Thats tomorrow morning. Here we are on thursday morning. Look at the fog push. Same thing. So you got a couple cool days ahead. Wednesday, thursday, friday, things change around. Were going to see temperatures start to warm. Youll see that in the five day. And then saturday and sunday, temperatures warm further. And thats because the big high nudges westward a little bit. So tomorrow like today, but cooler and more fog and slower burn off. Heres the five day forecast and you can see that friday, it starts to warm. And then saturday, sunday, kind of back to more typical summertime weather. In the meantime, next few days, youre going to probably want jackets, especially in the mornings and evenings. All right, bill, thank you. Plus, thats tv 36 over the air or channel six on most cable and satellite systems got around, but by the skin of their collective teeth. Heres what you missed. If you didnt stay up late last night, ranked number one in the world when the cup began, the us has struggled to score, needing a win or a tie. Last night against portugal to move on. There were opportunities still a scoreless game in the 91st minute when Megan Rapinoe passes ahead to alex morgan. Morgan, though, could not convert portugal, able to get its best chance of the game. Only a ball off the post kept the us from being eliminated in group play for the first time in world cup history. Annika pena breaks away, has a great shot that ricochets back into play. Us able to control the ball. From there they played to a scoreless tie, which gives the us a record of one zero and two in the group the netherlands wins the group at two zero, and one was a lackluster performance by the us, which scored just four goals in three games. Kelli ohara with a vocal message for her teammates, both on the field and in post game interviews. I think that i told the team like, listen, we did what we had to do. Were moving on. Group stage is done. This is over. Its in the rear view. We have our next game in front of us and thats the only one that matters in again, maybe we didnt do it the way we wanted to or planned on doing it, but were advancing and this is the world cup and thats all that matters. The good news for the us is that the team is moving on, most likely in a knockout game against sweden. But the us will need to find something it did not possess against portugal or in the two previous two games. For that matter. The expectations are high for the two time defending champs. But someone who was on both of those championship teams doesnt like what shes seen so far. Im just not seeing that passion. Im just seeing a very lack luster, uninspiring, taking it for granted where winning and training and doing all that you can to be the best possible individual player is not happening. They dont look fit. Theyre playing as individuals. The importance and meaning of winning has changed. What has come from winning has become more important to question the mentality of this team, to question the willingness, the willingness to win, to compete. I think its insane. Heres something we never do. Were talking about the 49 ers quarterback situation. A summer practice continues. Topic number one was settled brock purdy is healthy. Hell take the majority of snaps with the number one offense. Topic number two involves two players who will be purdys backup, trey lance. The third overall pick three years ago, or sam darnold, the third overall pick of the new york jets in 2018. And heres the third topic. The 40 niners have a fourth quarterback battling for a roster spot. Brandon allen was a backup in cincinnati the last three years is getting more practice snaps than most number fours last year the 49 ers ran out of quarterbacks so might they keep four on the 53 man roster. I think four on a 53 would be very challenging for in the building is certainly possible and its one of those things tim i think we just want to throw it all out there, let things unfold and then well figure out the details as we go. You know, were all product of our experiences and that experience wasnt real cool last year. One of the biggest names in baseball is headed back to the team where he won a world series last year. Reigning American League cy young winner Justin Verlander has headed back to the houston astros. Verlander was a high priced acquisition of the new york mets in this past offseason. The mets have been a big disappointment. Five games under 507, ten and a half games out of first place. Verlander was six and five in new york. Goes back to houston for two of the astros top prospects. And check this out time on a tuesday night. This is an impossible situation for a weekend golfer. Big bunker, no stance.
