The biden will curtail the Current Practice of holding back vaccine doses to guarantee that people who get their first shot can also get a required second inoculation. Three weeks later, that is under the trump administrations approach. The government has been holding back that supply of vaccines to guarantee that people can get that second shot, which provides maximum protection. And against covid19. President trump says he will not be attending president elect joe biden is inauguration coming up on january 20th. The president made that announcement this morning on twitter just hours after conceding the president ial race. Meantime a spokesperson for Vice President pence said he and the second lady have yet to make a decision. President trump will be the first incumbent president since Andrew Johnson to skip the inauguration. And just within the past half hour, twitter has suspended President Trumps account permanently following in the footsteps of facebook. The company cites the quote risk of further incitement of violence on the platform. The president had been given back access to twitter after a 12 hour hold was put on his account during the Capitol Attack this week, and after the president deleted a number of his tweets. Meantime lawmakers are debating the president s future in the white house with less than two weeks left in his term. Speaker of the house nancy pelosi has asked Vice President mike pence to invoke the 25th amendment. Now if that fails, as kate views Elissa Harrington reports this afternoon, she may move forward with plans to impeach the president as soon as next week. S capitol, which is the temple of america of our american democracy and the violence targeting congress. Horrors that will forever stain our nations history. In the letter to colleagues, pelosi share her concerns over the president. Having access to the nuclear codes, she writes, i spoke to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, mark milley, to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a Nuclear Strike situation of this unhinged president could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything that we can to protect the American People from his gun. Balanced assault on our country and our democracy. If congress does move forward to impeach president donald trump, he would be the first president to be impeached twice. Aids all right, joining us now to talk more about some of the latest developments after the riot in the Nations Capital, david mcewan, Political Science professor at sonoma state university, david good, good to have you on here today. Lets start with what could come next year. The repercussions for President Trump. Obviously, Speaker Pelosi is threatening to move forward. With impeaching President Trump next week. If he does not resign, do you think theres enough momenta mme here and enough Political Support to actually move forward with an impeachment with less than two weeks to go in his presidency . Yes, actually, i think there is that theres such anger on capitol hill about what happened. What about what transpired that youll see the one and only article introduced on monday that will quickly be the house will be brought back their scheduled for a district work week next week, but the house will be brought back by wednesday. Delvaux theyll pass that theyll move that article very quickly over to the senate. And then the question is. What is that . What is the senate do . What is that trial look like youre correct that the timeline is tight here. We also have Martin Luther kings birthday coming up. There are rally slated the weekend prior to that, by by White Supremacists, White Nationalist groups and pro gun groups that weekend, so it is setting forth a very uneven time. If you will headed into. Joe biden is inauguration on the 20th of january. All right, and the calculation here for democrats is obviously not necessarily trying to remove the president from office because he is going to leave office here in less than two weeks, but part part of what happens if he is impeached twice by convoys. Then he will not be able to run for president again in the future. Thats right. Its about setting the historical precedent that he would be the only president impeached twice. He will not be present at the inauguration. As he has said, the only president who we have to go back to Andrew Johnson, who was impeached in 18, 40 says. Look at that. You also have a guy who cant run again. And democrats were really worried about that. The broader thing here, though, alex is what happens to his movement and his people. And the loss of twitter is hugely important. He joins isis. He joins other radical white supremacist groups who have been permanently banned from twitter. Thats thats pretty inauspicious company. But twitter and the use of other devices on social media have helped fuel his kind of fervor. You will and im obviously what happened this this past week, so thats a severe loss. And an important one and notice that Tech Companies moved very quickly into that wind as democrats took over both areas of the house and the senate and the presidency as well. So its an important set of developments that effect also, President Trumps future. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, the twitter president being being silenced here, at least on that platform is pretty remarkable. We have to. We have to leave it. Home loan is now 2. 65 thats down a point from a year ago, and its a new record low, freddie macs chief economist, says the rates will likely rise modestly this year. However a lack of available homes may leave many potential homeowners empty handed. Now. While there is good news for mortgage rates, there is bad news for the labor market. The latest jobs report shows that employers cut 140,000 jobs last month. Its the first monthly loss since the pandemic started back in early spring for more on the new report, lets bring in georgia chedi Wealth Advisor there. Morgan, stanley and george. Always a pleasure to see you. The numbers, boy, they were worse than we expected. Exactly we had projected a Morgan Stanley about a plus 50,000, which is still not great because our economy needs on a monthly basis about 150,000 new jobs a month just to break even, but. Covid19 and the recession that weve had. You know, all bets are off. Things have changed, so we saw a negative job growth of 140,000, which means we added jobs, but really on thursday we had about 920,000 people. Apply for unemployment and 25 of number was from california. So this december, you know job report was heavily concentrated the losses anyway, in leisure and hospitality because theyve been hit the hardest by the by the pandemic. But there are other parts of the economy where youve actually added jobs. Weve added jobs and manufacturing Construction Companies and higher paying professional services job. Thats why i called this. Unfortunately a low wage recession most of the people hit by this recession and unemployment or people at the hourly rate people that are at the lower economic end of our scale, and theyre the ones who probably need the help most. And theyve been hit the hardest by this. Yeah they certainly have. George. This report that took place as we were seeing that record surge in coronavirus cases and also before lawmakers approved that additional relief package. How might those two things impact . Act the ongoing recovery well, this is really a covid19 recession that were experiencing. I mean, as the numbers increase, we start to shut down our restaurants or hospitality or travel. Eight starts closing. You know many of the businesses down and so were really not even at the peak. Yet in terms of the number of cases because of vaccine hasnt been readily distributed. So were still peeking in terms of the numbers and you could certainly parallel unemployment if you were jobs created now. Were optimistic that things will change. Once the vaccines get out there. Thats the one thing thats standing in the way of economic growth. And thats why youre seeing the stock market. Heather do really because it expects the vaccine to come in, and it expects the vaccine to help cure this problem, and that will certainly get people back to work. And so you know, prior to covid19 we had about 3. 5 unemployment. Right now. Were about 6. 7 so really have to gain back about 10 million new jobs, and well be able to do that when we can freely get out of the economy and spend money and go to stores and travel as we have, you know, prior to covid19, right, obviously there before that happens. Weve got tea. Get control of the virus. My final question, though, for you, george is how much should we read into this jobs report of it . What does it mean overall for the u. S economy . Well, i think the labor market. Its taking a little breather here because again these covered cases keep continuing. So if we see a trend of next month and the month after that of negative job growth, and we know we have a serious problem, but i think we have a recalibration of the focus of our whole economy. After january 20th. I think were going to see more vaccines being really thats going to be the number one priority. I believe for the Biden Administration. If hes going to be successful in his 1st 100 days, hes got to get the vaccine out there. We have to get people well. We have to get people confident that theyll go out and spend money. Americans want to spend money and there is money to spend. Theres a lot of money out there and but people are not going to do it until they feel safe and secure. And i think thats what the Biden Administration will focus on getting the vaccine out. Thatll be number one until some of this uncertainty goes away. People are just reluctant to do anything drastic yet. All right, teddy, always a pleasure. Thank you. Thank you, mother. Coronavirus cases soaring across the country as the u. S shatters records for the number of coronavirus depths for a third consecutive day. Also the vaccine rollout it does continue. The fda is now urging states to vaccinate lower priority groups to speed up distribution, and president elect joe biden says soon after his inauguration, hes planning to release most available vaccine doses to try to help curb the spread of the virus. All right, obviously, there is a rushto try to distribute vaccine doses in the south bay ktvu is Maureen Naylor is joining us now, with more on just how many people have been vaccinated there and what the plan is for the next group of p. People who should be able to roll up their sleeves. Morrie, whats the update on the vaccine rolled out there . Yeah, alex. We got some new numbers today, and we found out that about a third of Health Care Workers in Santa Clara County have now received their first dose of the covid19 vaccine. The county is promising to ramp up after a slow start to the vaccine rule out, saying the next few months will be a transition period. Today. Were here to share with you some really good news hopeful tone friday from Santa Clara County Health Officials who say more than 47,000 Health Care Workers have received the first dose of the covid19 vaccine, with 90,000 more to go, and about half of the estimated 6000 Skilled Nursing facility workers. Have also received their first dose. I think that what weve seen so far is promising because our Healthcare Systems were able to bring up vaccinations in the middle of responding to the biggest surge weve ever had, and over the holiday. Three weeks have passed since the vaccine first arrived in Santa Clara County. With 110001st doses to give out. Health Officials Say challenges have included limited access to extremely cold freezers required for the fizer vaccine, along with the complex priority system and a reluctance see among some its expected to start slowly and we will absolutely ramp up. Weve heard that the federal government under the new administration is going to push out a lot more vaccine, the plan is to open many more masback sites. The county says all Health Care Workers can now be vaccinated. And theyre hopeful to start inoculating. The next group, which includes people age 75 over teachers and farm workers. By the end of the month. Were very hopeful that this marks a turning point in the pandemic. The county this week opened three vaccination sites with another plan to open next week to get heard immunity locally. Health Officials Say. 1. 5 Million People in Santa Clara County need to be vaccinated. We are trying to get through phase one a as fast as we can. All hands on deck effort. She still says Santa Clara County is at an extraordinarily difficult place right now reporting 1200 new cases of the coronavirus every day, one county leader said. By next week, when it comes to the vaccine, theyre looking at vaccinating potentially up to 6000 people a day, alex. All right, so obviously the county trying to get us many healthcare workers vaccinated as possible, but but we have heard anecdotally stories that that there are a fair number of Health Care Workers who are declining the vaccine. Is that something that were seeing play out in the south bay. Well the county testing officer did say reluctance. He played a role in part of why its been a slow rollout. He thinks once that theres kind of a hump once that is done, he expect to see the number increase. They also say, just in the last 48 hours that the state changed the priority tearing. Now they could get the vaccine to all Health Care Workers not have to go through a list and say, are you in this category or this category . They expect that is gonna be a big change and why you should see the numbers of vaccinations go up as we see it. Start to speed up. All right. Ktvu smore in daily reporting live force. Thank you. Morning as we told you at the top of the hour, twitter has permanently banned President Trump and one activist called for that move. Just this morning, a banner on a sailboat off San Franciscos ocean beach called on twitter Ceo Jack Dorsey to ban President Trump from the social media platform. The group behind the sun wanted dorsey to take immediate action. Which came this afternoon. President trump was back on twitter late yesterday.
