Covid related checks started appearing in Bank Accounts over the last few days. Coming up we talk to a financial expert about how the money is being spent and how this will impact the american economy. Bay area weather after a foggy start, lots of sunshine this afternoon but there is another system offshore that will impact on part of the bay area tomorrow, we have more in the forecast coming up. Struggled the past week, millions of americans have been receiving their direct payments of 600 or more. Part of the latest round of Coronavirus Relief that was passed by congress. For more on the impact the aid is likely to have we are joined by Morgan Stanley wealth managers. Good to have you here. With direct payments going up too many people they are continuing to go try now. What do you think most americans are going to spend the money on considering the fact you have so many people out of work, behind on rent, struggling to pay groceries right now. Lets sets the scene on this. And march the first call that act was enacted. Money was distributed in april. That was over 10 months ago. That act was very generous. The survey showed people put a lot of money away in savings. Money for the amount of time they might be unemployed. Most the people have not come back to work and are down to hardly anything. There for we have the emergency relief package which just came out. Money being distributed now. The 600 direct payment has already been received by most people. The Unemployment Benefits gets extended another 13 weeks. California has the average unemployment of 300 some odd dollars a week. Another 300 on top of thats. That is 600 per week. Look. It has been 10 months for a lot of people since we were out of work. Savings have been depleted. The surveys show the direct payments people are receiving now are spent on two essentials. Food and shelter. Yes. No doubt about its. People are just trying to get by right now. Money is obviously you know, greatly needed here. Folks have been waiting a long time for it. How much do you think these direct payments to americans and all of the items in the stimulus package will actually serve to stimulate the economy and get us back on track . It is not enough money for people with a lower income level. They will suffer. The whole general economy will benefit. This is 900 million being thrown into the economy. Thats saves the First Quarter of 2021 where we have a positive the First Quarter. With two negative quarters back to back that is a recession. We do not want that to happen because that would be a double dip recession. That would not be good for the economy and for this working. We are still seeing the amount of coronavirus cases escalate and the vaccine is coming out slowly. So, the whole key to the whole thing, getting people back to work and getting able making money and helping the economy and helping themselves is basically getting the vaccine out there. That is the big troubling right up. Hopefully we will hit a Tipping Point relatively soon and when that happens, people will feel safe. They feel like they can go back to work, restaurants will open, hotels, we can get a lot of people unemployed back to work. We are making progress actually because in march we had about a 40 unemployment. Technically, we are below 7 right now. A lot more people are unaccounted for, unemployed. That number is going to. We are making progress. Were in the recovery of the economy. We still have 20 Million People are 30 Million People still hurting severely from this. As long as we have you on here, we obviously have a lot of questions from viewers about how these direct payments will work. One of the questions we received, some it is asked, obviously they are struggling in a really serious way. They are asking what happens to the direct payment. Goes to their bank account into an account already overdrawn or has very little money in its. Will this money sort of automatically cover the overdraft in the case x or is there some way people can have access to the money for the time being . On a reactive basis, the banks are big. Managed by big computers. Weather is a negative balance a positive dollar comes and goes to raise the negative. Its not going to happen. So it has a negative balance because they have not been able to pay their bills or they are overdrawn, they will get less of the stimulus check. Lets have a specific agreement with the bank. That is not on an exception basis. Generally because this is happening from a master attribution channel, the federal government, the local banks, it is definitely going to be reconciled out. There could be a few exceptions but generally, people should expect less money with a negative balance. We appreciate you getting all of the information out there. So important at a time like this is the direct payments continue going to americans across the country who need all the help they can get right now. Always appreciate your time and your insight on the subject, becky. Those not strapped for cash are choosing instead to use their checks they are getting from the government to give back to those in need. The polls close just about 30 minutes ago in georgia for those crucial Senate Runoffs. These are the very early numbers that are coming in with just 6 of precincts recording. He is the longtime pastor at Ebenezer Baptist church in atlanta. You can see here reverend warnock is leading with 64 of the vote thus far compared to 36 for Kelly Loeffler. These again are very early returns coming up. As we just saw with greg lee results are trickling in. What can we expect as the county continues there in georgia . The bottom line is it will take some time to count all of the votes. We should not glean too much from the barely early small numbers being reported. It is important to note where the votes came from and what is part of the state and what kind of old are they . Mailin ballots . Early voting . Inperson voting . We know going back to november, thats can make a big difference. We should point out 3. 1 Million People in just the past two weeks before people were still lined up to vote today in georgia already voted. That is a record smashing all records were the Georgia Senate run out turn off. We dont only people gordon we are still waiting despite holes closing if you were in line right now, you can still votes. Another similarity to november as the votes are counted. We caution against a red mirage or a bluegrass. Each count to can reports votes at different times. Some a report mailin voting first which typically leaned democrat. Some have day of voting which typically leads republican. We temper the expectations as we wait for the results to be delivered. As you mentioned, a Record Number of people submitting mailin ballots. In person voting is still key. As we know runoff elections, Voter Participation tends to be much less that it is in a general election. For republicans, getting people physically to the polls was really important today. Gaps of the. It was in in november. What republicans are trying to do is tap into President Trump space. To go to rural and suburban areas that voted for him. Reminder, the difference between biden and trump in november was less than a quarter of a which is why we saw two recounts in the state provided. There tapping into President Trump for democrats. Go to the areas that carried joe biden. Clayton county and dekalb near metropolitan cities and like atlanta, black voters carried joe biden to victory. They try to recreate democrats with constant outreach over the last two weeks.
