A friend that he was volunteering at the time of the attack and that he also works for the city. Tonight he is recovering at the hospital with some serious injuries. Azenith smith tells us that the community is trying to raise money to help with his recovery. He has this philosophy of that you know you have to make the world better. You have to help people who are struggling the most. Friends described nguyen pham as selfless, always wanting to help. Besides charity work with children in vietnam he worked directly with the homeless in san jose. A volunteered Grace Baptist Church helping with overnight shelter on sunday when he was stabbed. To find out that he was one of the people attacks, that made me immediately scared for him and all the people that rely on grace and for the people who put in the time it grace. Pham was one of five victims, him and two others were rushed to the hospital and a man and woman did not survive. There were injuries to his neck, his head, his face, and its going to take some time to recover. It is a kick in the gut, when you hear any member of your work team, work family has been seriously harmed like this. Everybody is on pins and needles. Mayor sam liccardo says that pham worked in the Cities Office of economic development, most recently on the census. He is someone who was certainly beloved. Homeless advocates and friends of pham hope the tragedy does not deter people from helping the homeless but serves as a call to action to do more. Neither alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision. Two other vehicles may have hit the man without knowing it. Investigators would like to speak to anyone who has information on this case.
