Florida, georgia, iowa, michigan, nevada, north carolina, pennsylvania, ohio, texas, and wisconsin. Our Team Coverage begins with our political reporter greg lee, who has been tracking the results. Greg, any surprises so far . I dont think so, frank some of the results were seeing kind of what we expected. States that both parties held in 2016. Arizona certainly one that were waiting to see the results of after polls just closed there. Were watching a number of those swing states, like you said, that could very well determine which direction this goes. A reminder we, it is very early in many of these states. So lets start in the midwest. States President Trump flipped in 2016 that democrats want and need to get a clear path back to the white house. Pennsylvania very, very early. Joe biden leading 72 to 24 . Just 9 reporting. Now we want to go to michigan. A close state in 2016. You can see there 6 reporting. President trump leading 57 to 41 . This is the case of maybe that red mirage, because so far a lot of the votes that have been counted are people that voted actually on election day. Now ohio, this is key, no republican has won the presidency without winning ohio. So far joe biden leading 54 to President Trumps 45 . This is that blue mirage, states that are counting early votes and mailin votes early. Now texas, a republican stronghold that democrats have had their eyes on. Very early still, 37 reporting. Joe biden very close, leading President Trump 50 to 48 . And now north carolina, another state that we have our eye on. 34 reporting. Joe biden with a slim lead, 51 to dopplers 47 . And finally, florida, a state that everyone has their eye on, because they are very good at counting those early mailin ballots. 90 reporting. President Trump Holding on to a 51 to 48 lead. He very much needs this state to have a clear path to the white house, and he is in good shape so far, but still a number of votes to be counted. Again, we are stressing it is highly likely we may not know who the winner is tonight, especially if it is close. Florida, and for a couple of reasons. Number one, they may count their ballots early, early as in early in our time in the evening. If trump loses florida, its pretty much game over. Theres ways to get a win, but it would take a lot of gymnastics. So thats the one to watch. Now, its super close, so theres no guarantee either way. Again, very close in florida right now. Before we get to the balance of power in the house, we understand that the race has been called for joe biden in new mexico. President trump wyoming, nebraska, north dakota, and south dakota. Biden winning new york and colorado. Now obviously this is not the only race on the ticket. Control of congress is at stake. In the house, all 435 seats are up. In the senate, this is key, right now republicans hold 53 seats, democrats 47. There are 35 seats up tonight, and a lot of races that we are keeping our eyes on. So we saw how powerful that negligence the senate was during the confirmation of Justice Amy Coney barrett. Frank, another point i wanted to stress tonight, as some of those early results were coming in from some of those states, a number of the count their mail in ballots first, which could lead us to believe that there is a large joe biden lead, and a number of those states count their in person votes from less day first, which may show an early President Trump lead. What we need to do right now is to just be patient and wait for more of those results to come in, knowing in full faith because of the number of absentee ballots that have been cast this year, there may be several days till we know for sure what the certified results are. Greg, so right now we can report that fox is saying that joe biden has 129 elfalan votes, President Trump has 94, as you mentioned. We need 270 to win the president city. The states again going back to what you were talking about that you are keeping a close eye on right now, florida, texas, and also ohio, and from what i understand, you said no republican president has ever won the presidency without winning ohio. Correct . Correct. And ohio is a big one. President trump won there in 2016, and won big, put the poes have shown things being extremely close. Theres another look at the results. 19 reporting, 53 to 46 in favor of joe biden. Again, a reminder, this is the likely many of those mailin votes, and those early votes that came in. As we start to see some of those in person votes from today, being counted, we will likely see the numbers shift in President Trumps favor. How much they shift, that is certainly what we are watching, and, tramping, in addition to the states you named, again, that blue wall that President Trump broke down in 2016, michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, those are all key for both campaigns to win. Can we tell at all from the early voting, the early voting has set records across the country. Can we tell at all from the early voting, would that be more democratic, or more republican in so i think based on the polls and based on what we are hearing on the ground, it was more democrats that were getting to the polls sooner, filling out their mailin ballot here in california. Every registered voter got a vote by mail ballot. So certainly democrats have the edge there. But, again, republicans pushed the ground game today, were in florida knocking on doors, urging their voters to get to the polls on election day, because President Trump had believed there was this distrust in the mailin vote system. So that may lead us to see a very large republican turnout tonight, when all is said and done. All right, greg, thank you. And just to headline right now once again, right now fox news has joe biden with 129 electoral votes, President Trump with 94 electoral votes. You need 270 e. R. A. Votes to western the presidency. Voters flocked to the polls today despite the threat of the coronavirus, and long lines to choose between President Trump and his democratic challenger joe biden. This election will influence how the u. S. Confronts everything from the pandemic to Race Relations for years to come. Those who are voting in person today are joining the 102 million americans who voted early, from arizona to delaware, to new york city, voters dealt with long lines, harsh weather, and social distancing to cast their ballots. This election is very important. Its bigger than politics. Its about social issues. Its about humanity. Its about disparities in healthcare. Theres a lot of things that we need to make sure that were protecting, and this is a really big election. So if youre watching, you need to get out there and vote. A Record Number of early voters adds a layer of uncertainty. Tens of thousands of people have turned out to cast their ballots in just the last three days. Andre senior is outside the Registrars Office tonight with more. Andre . Reporter well, frank, a steady stream of vote verse been pouring into the Registrars Office here to cast their ballot, and were told things are going smoothly, and they expect things to pick up as we get closer to that 8 00 p. M. Deadline. Reporter hours before the polls closed tuesday, a steady stream of voters made their way into the Registrars Office to vote in the election, and in a sign of the types, those here today had to first get in line to get personal protective equipment before making their way to the voting booths. While othersed who whoa had already filled out their ballots simply stopped by to drop them off in the ballot box. For others, the process was a bit more involved, and thats because its the very first time participating in a u. S. Election. We spoke to one man just hours after he became u. S. Citizen. Im excited, yeah. Excited and, at the same time, i guess a little nervous. He was born in mexico, and had to register to vote, first, after which he could cast a provisional ballot. Im proud to take advantage of this benefit as a citizen of the united states. Reporter scott larkin also came to the Registrars Office to register to vote but for a different reason. Recently i ended up becoming homeless, so coming in here today, i had to go from one side to the other to update the address, using the cross streets and the zip could of where im staying at in san jose. Reporter largent tells me regardless of his living situation, his vote impacts his life. I just think its important, so we can still participate in our government, you know, that were not just kind of flown out because were going through hard times. Reporter he is one of more than 43,000 people who the Santa Clara County Registrars Office saids v cast their ballots in the last three days. There have been some issues. The top issues for peoples ballots getting rejected are the signatures are missing, the signatures dont match, or the ballot came in too late. Youre looking at now a video of the crew here processing the ballots that have been cast already, like much of the country, voter turnout in santa clara has broken a record. Countywide, 53 of eligible voters have cast their ballot, surpassing the state number, which stands just shy of 42. A point of note here, there are about 100 ballot box across the county. So if you plan to drop off your ballot, make sure its at pa ballot box that has not been picked up yet. Also if youre unsure, you can always drop off your ballot here at the regional stars Office Located at 1555 burger drive here in san jose. Back to you, frank. High interest in this election is getting team the polls in San Francisco. Voter turnout in San Francisco is continued to top 80 . More than 60 of the ballots sent out have already been returned. So far the turnout is 66 for this election, which is really good for this point in the election cycle. The activity this morning has been a little bit light compared to other president ial elections that weve experienced recently, but thats, at the same time, we know that were going to have a surge. The combination of the president ial cycle, along with uniform mailin ballots could mean San Francisco sets a record for turnout. Voters in california have a number of propositions to decide on. Prop 22 would make app based drivers independent contractors. That includes driver force Companies Like doordash, uber, and lyft. Those companies along with others poured 200 million to support the measure. It would make those drivers except from Assembly Bill 5, which required them to be reclassified as employees. Proposition 15 would raise tax on some commercial and industry property owners. The increase would be on commercial and Industrial Real Estate worth more than 3 million, based on their current value. The taxes collected would go to schools and local governments. Tax breaks would remain in place for homeowners. And proposition 16 would reinstate affirmative action in california. It would allow race, ethnicity, andend tore once again be considered in admissions to state colleges and universities state contracts and public jobs. Prop 16 would repeal prop 208 passed back in 1999, which band affirmative action. Coming up, our election coverage continues. Up nose, well go live to contra costa county, where officials are gearing up to begin counting ballots. Were taking a look at the weather forecast. Ill have the fiveday when i see you next. Mailin ballots have been the story of this election in the midst of this pandemic. We have a live report from martinez with a look at how the votes are being counted in contra costa county. Deb . Reporter well, julie, theres a him you can hear in this room. Its the scanners that are running and and processing the ballots. Sis scanners going right now. Every one that is available. Scott, tell me about how this election is distinctive. Well, probably the most distinctive think about this selection that voters voted earlier and in greater numbers than ever before, and that jumbled some of our plans and timelines. We found ourselves having to do a lot of things a week or two earlier than what we had anticipated in order to stay ahead of things, and were on track to have a report turnout, and if we do, its to voters who set that record. Things change because of the pandemic. You wonder if things will go back to the way they were, since many things in society will make adaptations andive spot not go back. Thats true. Im not sure about elections, though, people are tied to certain traditions. Weve seen that with a number of people who still feel very strongly about voting in person, even with the pandemic. Well have to see. Well have to see if this is a one off, or if theres a return to the way things used to. Reporter in person voting. Right. Reporter but because, what, 65 of your registered voters voted before today, you didnt really have long lines, right . No, we didnt. In fact, weve only had 39,000, 40,000 people vote in person today. Normally i would expect to be at about 150,000, 160,000 at this point in the day, but fewer people voted at the polls, which really is good, because thats a safer option for them, and for our workers. Fewer people in more locations. Reporter 700,000 registered voters. Youve been in the business in contra costa for, what, 25 years . Did you think you would ever hit that kind of Registration Number . Well, ive been in the business for 25 years. Im coming up on my 8th year here in contra costa, and, no, i never thought contra costa would hit 700,000. When got here, we were about a little over 500,000, but voters have registered in huge numbers. In fact, a year ago, when we started planning for this election, we estimated that we would have 700,000 voters, and on the last day of registration, we actually hit that magic number exactly, 700,000 voters. Speaking of magic numbers, 802 of that initial counter pops up, how many ballots will actually be represented then . I expect i dont know the exact numbers, because were just work right now get everything scanned through. At first report, though, i anticipate it representing more than a 50 turnout, which is huge compared to to our previous 8 00 reports that might have been 20 or 25 . So early voting means early processing, everything gets done early, and in many respects, its helpful. Absolutely. In fact, because Everyone Wants to know so early on Election Night, the voters have really helped us provide answers for them early. Were going to continue running until we get all of the results in from the polls, so well continue to run our vote by mails, so by the end of the night, think we will be reporting 60plus percent. A pretty clear picture. May not be that national lie high. No, and fortunately, we dont have that many controversial close things here, one or two items. Has the party makeup of contra costa changed, as far as democrat and republican in the county has been trending more and more democrat over the last few years, and the secondary trend is a greater percentage of voters choosing not to align themselves with a party. So about 4 of our voters are earn affiliated with either republicans or democrats. About 2 to 1 in contra costa . Yes, about 2 to 1. Reporter and that has remained steady with your new registrations . Yes, that trend has continued. Reporter is this going to be an all nighter . How do you prepare forking the Something Like this . No, it wont be an all nighter unless something goes south on us us. We expect to be out of here between midnight and 1 00 with everything voted and countied, with competent compensation of some of these mailins to count. But weve been scanning for over a week to make sure that tonight would be a success. Thank you so much for such great information. Everyone is so focused. You can really barely get folks to look up from their tasks. They are absolutely on it tonight. Everybody pushing towards that 8 00 initial count, and of course well be here for that, too. A man is under arrest in San Benito County tonight, accused of starting a series of arson fires in holly story. It started with reports of reports of cars with slashed tires and then a couple of cars were set on fire, and then a restaurant was set on fire and a commercial building where up to 10 businesses were either destroyed or damaged. Firefighters say when they arrive and the scene, the flames were intense. I was able to see completely through the building, because the fire had already gone through the roof. The roof has collapsed in on the structure itself, and the flames so were intense that there was no need for any exterior lights, because it was like daytime on both businesses. The 21yard line suspect was arrested nearby and charged with arson. He is now being held on 1 million bail. In las vegas, people started lining up before polls even opened. Technical problems forced some locations in clark county to open late, but nevada Election Officials say the issue did not affect their Voting Machines book President Trump is spending the evening watching the returns at the white house, he is also hosting an Election Night party there. This morning he visited his Campaign Headquarters in virginia, thanking dozens of staffers for their hard work that First Lady Melania Trump cast her ballot in palm beach county, florida, today. It is not clear if she will return to washington, d. C. , this evening. A joe biden started off election day with a visit to his childhood home in scranton, pennsylvania. The former Vice President traveled with two of his granddaughters, while he was there, he signed a wall at the home, saying quote, from this house, to the white house, with the grace of god. Joe biden, 1132020. Joe biden also made a stop in philadelphia before heading home to watch the returns, Vice President ial candidate Kamala Harris will join him there. Here is a look at the electoral vote total. Right now, joe biden has one colorado, illinois, virginia, maryland, the district of columbia, delaware, new jersey, connecticut, rhode island, massachusetts, new york, vermont, and a portion of main. So, at the moment, joe biden has 129 electoral votes. President trump has one wyoming, north and south dakota, parts of nebraska, oklahoma, louisiana, mississippi, alabama, tennessee, kentucky, indiana, and west virginia, and at the moment, President Trump has 94 Electoral College votes. You needed 270 votes to win, and julie, as we look at this map, you can see the key states to watch right now are florida, where trump is ahead, light pink like texas where right now trump is ahead you look to the northeast and you see that biden is ahead in ohio and pennsylvania, those are both crucial states. At the moment, President Trump is ahead in wisconsin, and michigan. Youre watching ktvu f0x2 news at 6 30. Tonight all eyes are on a handful of battleground states from the sun belt to the rustbelt. Greg leigh has been tracking the results, we get more of those results, any surprises so far . No, i think right now both men are doing what they need to do in getting the states the democrats are expected to get and getting the states that President Trump is expecting to get. That is only putting more importance on those swing states in the midwest, the rustbelt, states President Trump flipped in 2016, where late polls show joe biden leading. In wisconsin, the governor says he expects results tonight or tomorrow. So far, 15 percent reporting. President trump is a leading 55 percent to joe bidens 43 percent, what we understand about wisconsin is that typically, they report day of in person Election Results first. As we see some of those mailin ballots counted, we may start to see that shift that we have been talking about so much this afternoon. In michigan, another close state from 2016, 12 percent reporting, President Trump leading 57 percent to joe bidens 41 percent. Still very early, and again reiterating, that this is likely much of the count from in person voting today. Now we want to go to pennsylvania, which could take a couple of days to count, according to Election Officials there, 13 percent reporting, joe biden leading 15 percent to 41 percent. 58 percent to 41 percent. 61 percent reporting so far, joe biden holding a slim lead, 50 percent to 49 percent. Pundits have said north carolina, ohio, these are two states that President Trump needs to carry, and win again in order to have a very clear path to the white house. Lets take a look at ohio, no republican president has won the presidency without carrying ohio. Still very close, 41 percent reporting, joe biden with a one percent lead, 5049. We have been updating you on florida, 95 percent reporting, again florida is able to counter these early mailin votes as they come in. President trump leading 51 percent to 48 percent, it looks like he is comfortable right now, but still, five percent of the vote to be reported. When it comes to florida, we have been talking a lot about miami dade county, but again what we should say about this election as a whole, we may not have a clear winner tonight, take a listen. The bottom line is that it is really important for people to know because there has been so much more vote by mail this time around, because a phenomenon called the blue shift has been happening more and more, it is entirely possible that we will not know who the winner is tonight, and again, nothing wrong with that there is no law that says we have to know by tonight. Going back to florida, when we talk about miami dade county, this is a county that Hillary Clinton in 2016 did very well in, 63 percent of the vote, President Trump has actually closed that gap with joe biden, picking up thousands of votes that make miami dade i suppose it victory for him, he has lost the county but picked up many votes there which is a good sign for the Trump Campaign and a bad one for joe biden but again, President Trump in order to have a clear path to the white house needs to pick up florida and we may very well see the results from florida tonight. But, if it continues to be close it may take a couple of days. We are watching north carolina, razor thin, ohio, razor thin. Pennsylvania, there is a bigger gap took explain why early voting makes a difference, because it traditionally favors democrats, so that vote, but in pennsylvania they were only allowed to start counting this morning, so what you get early on may not reflect how the race ends up. Sure, and what we are seeing is so many more people choosing to vote by mail, and many states, there is no federal rules in terms of how you are supposed to report and count your votes. So, typically in a normal year, what we would see is many republicans, many older voters, many voters who vote in every election, they are typically the ones to vote early. This year, we saw a shift in that Many Democrats voting early, voting by mail, so what we may see with those states which count their votes first is a large democratic lead or a blue mirage that some have been calling it. In states in the midwest like pennsylvania, those are states that count there in person day of votes first, so, you will see republicans leading their. We can expect to see large shift based on how partisan the mode of voting has really been in this election season, julie. Before we let you go, what are your thoughts in arizona, they have not started counting there, an important state for both candidates, what do you see happening with arizona. There is a lot at stake with arizona tonight. This is a state that trump won by three Percentage Points in 2016, the latest polls have showed joe biden leading by about six points, this is a big state that has traditionally been very red. Democrats have focused their attention there as well in texas, we did not show you texas results, but so far joe biden has been leading early, these would be to big prizes to shift, perennial red states, but it is still very early. The Electoral College stands at 129 for joe biden and 94 for President Trump, you need 272 when. We will check back in later. Thank you. Election Officials Say that safeguards ensure your vote will count but even with voting security measures, there have been reports of voter suppression. The most common appears to be in the form of robot calls. Our Investigative Reporter brooks jarosz has been looking at the information and misinformation being spread. Reporter these tactics aim to undermine our entire election process, already we are seeing reports of voters being harassed or attempts to throw out votes entirely, but just recently, the new York Attorney general announced an investigation into robot calls, encouraging people to stay home and stay safe amid the coronavirus pandemic. The fbi has also gotten involved, after several states with reports of voters getting these calls in battleground states in particular, meant to trick them into not going to the polls. Take a listen. This is a test call, time to stay home. Stay safe and stay home. Reporter other calls tell voters because of long lines they should vote on wednesday instead, of course that is not possible. The source of the messages is not known, calls have gone to voters in ohio, texas, florida, and nebraska. Elections Officials Say to ignore those calls, the director of the Cyber Security and instructor Security Agency said this kind of scare tactic actually happens every election, but we should really remain calm. We remain confident that no foreign cyber actor can change your vote. You will also have patient as greg informed us, we may not have all of the results in tonight. There have been some minor glitches we have been monitoring across the country, overall, though, no major voting problems reported at polling locations. The only thing we have heard in other states are a few long lines. You know, brooks, i dont know if you have noticed it but one of the things that i have gotten our a ton of texts on my mobile phone, and they all start with hi, frank, would you vote for soandso . And i just keep thinking, how would they get my number, and how would they know thats who i . Reporter there were times when i even get text messages, or information from political campaigns and i often think how did they get that information . Often times, the biggest source of some of the bad actors who are getting this stuff is from these data breaches. They are actually paying for this stuff online and there is a lot of concern after the 2016 election that we could have a foreign influence in this election, not only in the days leading up to the action, election, and today, but in the days and weeks that follow. Brooks jarosz, live for us tonight, thank you. Coming up, election coverage continues, we will check out how voting in marin county is going, with less than 90 minutes to go until the polls close. A look now at the electoral map, this is a fox news map and what we have right now, joe biden with 129 electoral votes, President Trump with 100 electoral votes, as we keep saying, you need 272 when when. As you look at this map i wanted to keep an eye on florida, on texas, on wisconsin, on michigan, on ohio, and pennsylvania. Those are some of the key states right now, at the moment, President Trump is ahead in both florida and texas. Also, wisconsin and michigan, and ohio. Vice President Biden is ahead in pennsylvania, again, a long night ahead, but at the moment, biden ahead with 129 electoral votes to President Trump. Voters are turning out to cast their votes in person, and you still have another hour here in california, tom vacar in california tonight, tom, were there lines . Obviously a lot of people had already voted but where there lines today . Reporter indeed, there were lines but not the big lines you would expect. That has a lot to do with the way marin county votes, usually by mail, or they at least vote early. By yesterday at 75 percent of the votes were already in, 75 percent, the registrar tells me that by this evening they were seeing 90 percent of the vote, one of the highest vote totals in the country and it has always been very high in marin. Now, thats two things, good news for registrars but there is also a lot of concern amongst voters. Here is what a registrar and a voter had to say. I think i phenomenal level of excitement, just, based on the numbers we are seeing of registered voters and the vote by mail turnout, i can tell you in past elections, our Voter Registration in 2016 was close to 161,000 people, and that was high. That was a record high Voter Registration for marin county. You can see the difference in a Voter Registration. I hope we can somehow come together as a nation, and try to unite, and not divide. It is at a Tipping Point right now, where it feels very anxious, and it just feels like something is going to pop, one way or the other.
