Reporter well, what you have to do is im going to step out of the way so you can take the extreme fire conditions. In fact, there was a firefight a look at this. Last night to the north of the this is one of just many fires bay area. Pretend this is just a smoke raging around here. Layer. When we first got here, that well get a smoke layer in the was just a singular column of sky, but what is happening is smoke, and now its a fairly this smoke layer is so thick, wide forest fire. My guess is since were going were adding lots of layer on to be here hours, it would not top of that. Just one page. Surprise me at some point in and as a result, it is so dark time if we see flames coming here in the bay area, the middle of the day looks almost over that ridge. Like dawn or dunk and that has were 12, maybe 7 miles as the been the case over basically crow nice from oroville, and the concern that it gets to all day today. Oroville, in which contains theyll have to evacuate the as we check out . The wildfire plots, the main t. Town, because this can be a over the past few days, and very fastmoving fire. Now, this fire complex started especially last night in terms of firefight and a lot of smoke on august the 17th. It is absolutely relentless, production, that has been to and now has september winds to the north of the bay area. In fact, this was a satellite make it far worse. From earlier this morning. Know you fires were showing all majestic highway 162 that circles scenic Lake Oroville is of the pictures bay area wide. Not quite so majestic since fierce winds whipped up the brisbane, richmond, and an eerie sight to start out your bear fire overnight, wednesday morning. The upper level winds have been moving in from the north, so threatening oroville proper, and forcing mandatory evacuations in many nearby village. The smoke has been being pushed at one point, the fire was upwards in the sky, upwards of incinerating 2,000 acres an 40,000 feet. So this is mainly upper level hour through steep pine forest smoke between about 5,000 and which went up like roman candles. It was so fast, it sounded 15,000 feet, and this has just like a jet plane, and it was been kind of blanketing the entire bay area all day long. Fire, 360 degrees around me. Hat northerly wind is expected i had to go into a sheet metal to weaken, and as a result, some of that smoke may fall shop on this property, and everything burnt to the ground, closer to sea level. Well be watching out for that. What up is with this orange except for the shop. Reporter here and an object lesson. Sky . The smoke particles scatter when the wind calms down, the flames calm down, but when blue light, leaving us orange and red. Thats why we have the orange those winds come back up, sky as you look up to the sky. Here is the satellite. Hard to believe that some areas theres plenty left to burn. Are cleat completely in the clear. Here is the smoke production as now that the winds are picking we come in closer, especially up a lot more fire activity, as closer to the bear fire. You can see, in the background there was an intense firefight we hear a lot of popping, trees exploding, and a lot of crashing. Last oroville. Trees falling down to the ground. The fire started blowing up so a lot of smoke production about 2 00 p. M. There, and that has been that n today. When winds picked up fanning the slow moving ground flames setting up for today. Into walls that claimed major as far air quality trees. A major problem remains hot sensors at the surface, were spots throughout the region that only need a stiff wind to just showing you unhealthy for sensitive grabs in vacaville, become a raging fire again. San francisco and oakland, more this is the kind of fire we can moderate levels, and in san jose, moderate levels as well. Expect from now through early november, as diablo and santa as we check out the upper level wind pattern, youll see this. Ana winds blow through the gold that northerly flow is starting to back off as we head into thursday, but i still think an state leave black char and were going to have smoke drifting overhead as we head destruction behind. Its september, october, and into your thursday, especially as we head into your thursday november when california has morning. Well talk more about this seen its deadliest fires year forecast coming up in just a little bit. Thanks so much, mark. After year. Checking the local weather here, looks like the winds will really appreciate that be very light tonight in the 4 explanation. All right. Now to the bear fire that mark to 5 mile per hour range, but wax talking about in Northern California. Thats a little faster going it exploded overnight into this through the canyons and the smoke seems to be rising morning. Forcing evacuation warnings and orders for at least 0,000 people straightup, which suggests theres not a lot of ground winds. That still very much an active fire. My guess if we get any kind of 20,000 people there in butte wind event or something gets county. Parts of oroville and areas south of Lake Oroville fire is out of control because its getting fresh fuel, then were going to have another situation to look at. Again, were not all that far extension of the north complex from oroville, which is a pretty good sides town and has a lot of communities around it, middle of last month. And theyve also had to put up with the threat at one point in the fire has now burned more time of their dam having than 254,000 acres, and this afternoon, it is just 38 damage, as well. Tom, just saw that motorist contained. And in northeast fresno, drive by you just a short time the creek fire continues to ago. Race through the mountains are there actually evacuations there, taking town homes and commercial structures along the underway right now where you way. Are . Reporter i think there are the fire in the Sierra National some going on. A lot of these vehicles are also going to be personal for cyst being fueled by for vehicles of some firefighters or county officials or things like that, like the truck that just passed us has emergency lights on it. But i think there have been some evacuations, and weve seen people driving by, but cyst being fueled by dead clearly were not on fire trees. This fire has charred 163,000 acres and burned at now, its a crews, and they had their cars full of stuff. So very few people up here, and my guess is the later we get the less people there are going to be. Yeah. All right, tom vacar reporting live with the latest from percent contained. Daniel joins us, the oroville. Appreciate that, tom. Back now to the strange assistant Deputy Director with skies we saw today here in the cal fire. Appreciate your time. Bay area as a result of the if we can start this afternoon smoke from those wildfires. Up in butte county. Check out this video courtesy thats where the bear fire, as of Dillon Garrett who used his we just mentioned, really drone at the brisbane marina. Exploded yesterday and late you can see the sky is bright into the evening. Reports of people trapped by the fire. A number of people hurt, as orange. As you can tell, many of the boats and even a lot of the well. Give us the latest on the buildings in that area still situation there and what your biggest concerns are with this have their lights on, even though the sun had come up a fire. Long time ago. That was in the kind of day it well, the winds that we had been planning for definitely appeared, and we saw gusty was. Mark is joining us now. I dont remember a day like winds across much of Northern California. That and if number of fires, this where weve gone the entire day, and none of us have including the bear fear that seen the sun. Yeah, and its not just a had been burning for several weeks. It pushed that fire, the strong then heir of smoke, alex, its winds, right through the middle pork of the Feather River drainage into a number of communities. Yesterday afternoon as that a real thick layer. Fire started to really ignite in its fire behavior, we started our planning efforts, bringing in resource if that f into butte county, we would be ready for the firefight, but that fire moved much more thats the smoke were dealing quickly than anybody could have with today here in the bay area. Here is the loop over the past anticipated. Were still determine right now how much destruction there was. Few hours. Once again, thats not cloud but firefighters are still this cover, that is the smoke moving in from the north from the bear afternoon battling that fire as it burns around the oroville fire. Just thought would check in on community. Two things still on the bear a few of the weather station sites here to show you some of fire. The Current Conditions around are you seeing improving weather conditions. Here in the bay area, we have this fire zone. Temperatures in the mid70s to cooler weather conditions lower 80s. Today. A lot has to do with the smoke thankfully the winds have level overhead. But you seeing improving conditions in that fire zone . And how much of a concern have backed off a bit. S there for oroville and the wi cooler air is in the forecast. Most of this smoke aloft, but ive heard a few people talking about describing even smelling the smoke closer to sea level as well. So that will be a concern later better than yesterday. The wind gusts currently in on today and into tomorrow those canyons, its still gusty. Again, nothing like it was yesterday, but we still have morning. That northerly flow weakens, wind going through those and the smoke will be allowed canyons. And thats a normal part of the to come closer to sea level. Weather pattern, just not as strong as we saw, but that approach sea level. Right now we have moderate little bit of wind coupled with levels for a good portion of the bay area. The dry conditions, it will the smoke forecast model, here continue to allow this fire to we are tonight into tomorrow. Move closer and closer near the smoke is really hard to Lake Oroville and those communities. Again, many of those forecast, and also a lot of it depends on the fire activity. Communities evacuated yesterday to get people out of harms i guess the key headline were way, but it is definitely a trying to describe here is the smoke will be around in your fullon firefight this afternoon. Yeah, not what they need in thursday forecast, and possible he longer than that. But maybe it wont be as thick those parts of butte county there. Daniel, if we can move on here or dense today. The spare the air alert and talk about that raging fire in fresno county, just continues right on through northeast of fresno, the creek friday. The projections for tomorrow, fire. We saw who moderate levels. We are in well, but unhealthy for sensitivthe s monterey bay this afternoon. Another big change with all of this smoke. Temperatures have cooled off quite a bit. So the heat is out of here, and today is much cooler than expected. Right now, it is only 67 in fairfield. Oakland in the mid60s. Compared to yesterday at this time, 30 degrees cooler in fairfield. Once again, we have all of the haze, the smoke, and fog right near the immediate coastline. So were going to wake up to smoke tomorrow morning, some areas of fog, and then into the afternoon hours, more smoky skies, temperatures mid60s to midtoupper 80s.
