Today state officials announced that the fires have burned more than 2 million acres so far this year. That sets a new state record. Cal fire said the most striking thing about the record is how early it was set, with the most dangerous part of the fire season still ahead of us. Cal fire said crews are battling 23 major fires in the state right now, and since august 15th, california has seen 900 wildfires, many of them started bay series of lightning strikes. One of the most active fires right now is the creek fire in the Sierra National forest, about 45 miles northeast of free throws. It is burning in fresno and madera counties. A new Evacuation Order was issued today for the town of aubrey. It is the 12th area to face a mandatory Evacuation Order due to that fire. More than 5,000 structures are still threatened. More than 200 people had to be airlifted after the fire surrounded a popular camping site at the mammoth pool reservoir. A grove of giant sequoias is now closed as a precaution, in case the creek fire reaches that area. Fire crews have covered the museum there with fire retardnt material. And that smoke continues to exist, having to do with those fires that are not put out. When theyre out, were going to be okay, but theyre not out, and as long as theyre not fully contained, were going to get smoke, and thats tomorrow, a spare the air extended to tomorrow. These are records today. We had a bunch of records yesterday as well. Which is impressive here. San francisco did not break a record. They were down 91 degrees, instead of a hundred yesterday. We did see cooling in some coastal areas. Oakland set a report at 96 downtown. Thats a 1957 record. Look at livermore, 112, 1904. So just a really hot day. Look at some more numbers. Those are massive. Two days in a row of just massive heat, except you see the difference here is just a little bit of cooling right in this area. Thats going to expand a little bit tomorrow. A fire crew from Southern California that had been helping up here spotted a fire in san jose today on their drive back home. Weve had damage to multiple vehicles. The fence is damaged. However, none of the structures here are damaged. Were just happy that the apartment didnt burn down, and were still here talking.
