The state Health Department says important statistics like the percentage of positive tests, hospitalization rates and icu admissions are trending down. The bay area is reporting troubling numbers this week. On wednesday and thursday, Alameda County reported the highest number of deaths and a single day due to the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. The county set a single day record of 21 deaths. State regulators are halting many procedures at the san quentin state prison. There was concern about the spread of covid19 within the prison. Among the issue, the clinic reportedly did not establish a safety plan for performing certain procedures like drilling, spring droplets from a patients mouth. 2200 inmates and 277 san quentin staff have been infected with the coronavirus. 26 prisoners and one correctional surgeon have died. Today, despite a recent spike in tests and Alameda County, officials are rolling back some restrictions. This means that hair salons, barber shops and Retail Stores with malls will be allowed to operate indoors at 25 percent capacity. The coalition of homelessness, uc berkeley, and Santa Clara University are all teaming up and contributing to a new report. They surveyed 600 people who were homeless in San Francisco. They focused on transgender people. Most became homeless when they could not afford a rent increase, and that there is not enough help available to get them back into housing. Shelters have time limits. That is part of the issue that we are bringing at area frequently, the people will get into the shelter system and stabilize but that are put back on the streets. We have heard about how destabilizing that is for people. The author of the study says they hope it will guide the city moving ahead. San francisco will receive funding from a Homeless Initiative proposition c passed by voters two years ago. Senior citizens in the east bay are spending a lot of quality time and their garden during the pandemic. Dozens of members of a Retirement Community in pleasanton our founding happiness and joy and satisfaction growing exotic fruits. Their garden has a wide variety of rare fruits, ranging from russian pomegranates to buddhist canned citrus. These gardeners are now ready to share the fruits of their labor, with their neighbors.
