President trump is heading to kenosha, wisconsin, where there have been protests and violence since the Police Shooting of jacob blake. Reporter President Trump is expected to land at Waukegan National airport at 10 00 our time. It has been a 30 minute drive to kenosha, wisconsin. The president is making his way to kenosha after a week of protests after the Police Shooting of jacob blake. The white house said the president is expected to meet with Law Enforcement and tour property damage. Blake was shot in the back seven times leaving him paralyzed. Shooting sparked demonstrations all over the country against Racial Injustice and police brutality. The trip comes despite the objections of wisconsins governor and kenoshas mayor. The governor deployed the National Guard to crackdown on demonstrations and worries trumps visit could strain tension further. Increase enthusiasm and it could increase love and respect for our country. That is why i am going. I think a and osha at this present time needs peace. It needs to heal. These people to allow us to do that. Protests went late into the night in los angeles after a sheriffs deputies shot and killed a black man there. The Sheriffs Office said the man was on a bicycle yesterday afternoon when deputies attempted to stop him for a vehicle code violation. The man took off, but allegedl had a gun on him. Two deputies opened fire, killing the man. Overnight, demonstrators vandalize the Sheriffs Office and confronted deputies protesting the killing. The city of oakland says 24 people were arrested during the three days of demonstrations last week. Officials say some of the protesters destroyed property and were hostile toward officers and members of the community. They also vandalized businesses and caused more than 100,000 dollars of damage. City leaders say they stand against social injustice but stressed that protests must remain peaceful. Starting today, San Francisco will allow hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, and Massage Therapy studios to reopen, but only outdoors. Customers and employees will have to wear facial coverings, and these businesses can set up tents outdoors to protect everyone from the sun and elements, but the businesses have to first get a city permit to do it. Gyms can reopen outdoors beginning september 9. At 11 30 this morning, the San Francisco mayor will hold a News Conference to tell us more about the citys reopening plans. Many barbershops and hair salons and other parts of the bay area are operating indoors for the first time in months. They restarted operations yesterday under californias colorcoded reopening system. Contra costa is among seventh bay area counties ranked in the purple tear which is the lowest ranking. Each county has a final say on when businesses can reopen. Contra costa county Health Officer decided to allow here salons to open indoors. I am actually hoping this sticks. We know we are safe. We are safer than most businesses that are open. I am definitely hoping that we can stay open. These here salons and barbershops in Contra Costa County can only operate a 25 of the regular capacity and have to follow very strict Public Safety rules. Santa clara county has a similar reopening plan under the state new guidelines systems. The hair salons, barber shops, and indoor malls across Santa Clara County are also allowed to operate indoors, but only at the 25 capacity. This comes despite a high rate of infection in Santa Clara County. Coronavirus cases now have surpassed the 17,000 mark, with 175 new cases reported in Santa Clara County yesterday. California passed another grim coronavirus milestone. More than 13,000 people in the state have now died from the virus. The number of cases in california now 713,000. In the bay area, the number of infections is near 86,000 and 1125 people have died. Alameda county continues to have more cases and deaths than any other county in the bay area. Napa has the lowest. A firefighter has died in the Northern California wildfires. Key died battling the august complex fires in the mendocino forest southwest of chico. Is second firefighter was hurt and getting medical treatment. The Forest Service will give us more information in the coming days. The august complex fires have burned more than 369 square miles. It is 20 contained. The Santa Clara County board of supervisors will debate several possible solutions to the threat of wildfires including creating a wildland fire program. The countys Fire Department came up with the program focusing on technology, response, and risk reduction. The board of supervisors president has been working with the department to come up with new ideas and solutions since 2018 and is supporting the new plan. Today is a 15th straight spare the air day. The smoke from the wildfires still covering mist of the bay area this morning. Air quality Officials Say even when the fires are out, we will probably still have lingering smoke creating unhealthy conditions. The winds are shifting. It is carrying ash and tiny particles into areas where there were no fires. The people we talked to say they can see, smell, and even taste the smoke. A bill that will refire High School Students in california to take a course on racial and ethnic studies is on the governors desk. California state Assembly Members approved that measure adding one High School Course on a oppressed and exploited minorities through history. The governor has until september 30 two decide whether or not to sign it. A few weeks ago, the governor did sign a bill giving students in this California State University system a similar graduation requirement. The state legislature approved a bill focused on police oversight. The bipartisan measure calls for the state attorney general or another state prosecutor to investigate deadly shootings by Law Enforcement. Midnight was the deadline for lawmakers to pass bills this session and they did not vote on tougher police restriction such as denying troubled officers the ability to keep their badge and holding officers to some financial responsibility if they are sued. A new gun control law takes effect in california today. He said his department has been in contact with the Postal Service to fix any possible problems with mailin ballots. San francisco voters should start seeing ballots arriving in the mail beginning october 5. The u. S. Postal service said it will replace six mailboxes it removed from oakland last week. At least one mailbox was reinstalled yesterday. The Postal Service said it removed the mailboxes as a precautionary measure, anticipating street demonstrations over the weekend, but city leaders criticized them saying the timing was suspicious. Given voters will be sending in mailin ballots in the coming months. Now to the wildfires burning in the bay area. We are getting a better idea of the damage caused by the czu lightning fires in the Santa Cruz Mountains. They are replacing and repairing 900 power poles and transformers that were destroyed by the fires. Santa cruz county publix works is sending inspectors to assess damage to homes. Homes account for 900 of the 1400 buildings that were destroyed. The czu fires have burned more than 133 square miles. Three main roads in the Santa Cruz Mountains will receive millions of dollars in repairs. Sections of highway 1, 9, and 236 need major work. Cleanup crews have to remove debris and fallen trees from those roads. Caltrans plans to survey the damage and when thats complete, the repairs can begin. Cal fire has lifted some of the effectuation orders in the scu lightning complex fire area. Evacuation orders have been lifted in santa clara, san joaquin, and alameda counties. The fire has been more than 387,000 acres in parts of seven counties. The fire is 65 contained. It hopes to have it fully contained by thursday. Three firefighters and two have been destroyed since the fire started. More than 5000 homes and businesses are still threatened in the fire. The woodward fire burning near Point Reyes National seashore is 17 contained. That fire has burned more than five square miles. The Sheriffs Office has lifted some of the evacuation warnings. Damp and foggy conditions have helped the firefighters gain some control, but that is limiting the use of firefighting aircraft in the area. Cal fire crews are gaining ground on the ellen you complex fire burning in sonoma, lake, napa, solano and yolo counties. The fire has burned it is 66 contained that is.
