We are looking at a transition back to the possibility of thunderstorms today and most of tomorrow. Outside our doors it is still quiet out there. We do have a red flag warning that went into place. It does not expire until tomorrow afternoon. The risk of thunderstorms and more importantly dry lightning along with those thunderstorms. We will talk about what you can expect for the afternoon and the extended forecast coming up in a little bit. We begin with the latest on the efforts to contain the czu lightning complex fire. We want to show you a map of where the fire is burning in relation to the scu lightning complex fire. The czu lightning complex fire is burning and southern San Mateo County. Northern Santa Cruz County as well. Firefighters say they are taking aggressive action and battling the fire. Lets show you some video of what it is like for fire crews to drive through the fire. This is video from cal fire. You can see the intense flames as the crews make their way through that area. Cal fire crews working on the complex fires and santa cruz and san mateo counties are facing a new obstacle. We are joined live and the flames, winds, and now youre dealing with burglaries. Reporter thats right. Fire and Police Officials are dealing with so much with this fire, and now they are on high alert because people continue to take advantage of the situation. The commanders wallet was stolen and bank account was drained. There will be 90 officers patrolling the area today. Their main goal is stopping burglaries. The czu lightning complex is 71,000 acres or 110 square miles. Containment is up to a percent. 129 structures have been destroyed. Cal fire says within the next couple of days, they will have more specific details about how many are homes versus out all things. In terms of controlling the flames, it was another good firefighting night. There were six water dropping the fire. Fire officials under confident overnight. The main concern now is the red flag warning. It is an effect now until monday evening the upcoming weather, we are doing everything we can to plan for that. We will have contingency plans in place and do everything we can to mitigate any future fires as well as be prepared for the winds that will come with the storm. It will give us some challenges, but we are prepared to meet that challenge can take that on and protect. Fire officials again are asking everyone who has been evacuated to stay out of the an evacuation zones. There are a lot of dangers out there. There are falling trees and down power lines. A patrol car was damaged because of falling branches yesterday. And stay away from the coast. There were a lot of people at the beaches in Half Moon Bay yesterday. People who have been evacuated say they are glad to be safe you can take their minds off of what could be happening to their homes. That is john. We have learned that the czu lightning complex fire has burned a local favorite. The pie ranch farm ranch has been lost. You can see the farmhouse chimney is the only thing left standing among the flaming pile of rubber. That farmhouse was built in 1863. The pie ranch goal has been to create farming and food system education for the community. Firefighters in the northbay are worried about the possibility of more lightning strikes bringing up more flames there as they try and battle the lmu fire. Those fires have now grown to more than 500 square miles across five counties. They are just 15 contained. There are three rning in separate areas. Firefighters are responding to them as one for more efficiency. Jared hoffman says that the crews battling these massive fires are getting high tech help today. The National Guard drone which can have scanning technology that can see the truth the poor air quality. It will be flying high above the skies of Sonoma County, and it will help us as we cross our lightning strikes. He met with First Responders to discuss the progress being made. The governor declared a statewide emergency due to 600 wildfires burning across our state right now. And President Trump has issued a major disaster declaration because of these wildfires. That makes people eligible for federal money to help with housing, unemployment, crisis counseling, and legal services. Local governments in those counties qualify for federal aid.
