San Francisco Police swarmed a parking garage during the manhunt for a suspect in the shooting this afternoon. Teams of officers ute canines to try to track down the shooter at about 3 20 this afternoon at fourth and mission streets. The victim was taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries and later died. Ucsf Police Arrested a suspect today in connection with the deadly fight early yesterday morning. Hospital Officials Say two people got into a fight inside the lobby of a medical building on the parnassus campus. The victim identified as 66 yearold anton malaysia of San Francisco made it outside where he collapsed. A nurse who was arriving at work try to revive him but the man was pronounced dead a short time later. Today they arrested 23yearold 10 Mariah Bryant Anthony White on suspicion of murder and robbery. The two did not know each other. Area residents say its not the first time they have seen violent encounters here. I have seen pipes here in the fast and ive seen people brandish knives. I am not completely surprised. The suspect was booked into the citys jail while the case remains under investigation. A long fought Development Battle in San Francisco is moving forward with plans to build more than 1000 new Housing Units on a vacant lot near city college. The board of supervisors voted to approve the project for which will go up on the site of the balboa reservoir parking lot. The 16 acre site was sold to developers for 11. 4 million. The plan is to build 1100 Housing Units, with half of them affordable housing. Of those, 150 will be set aside for city College Teachers and staff. New at 10 00, a controversial issue in palo alto, nonresidents turned away from a public park because of the longstanding City Ordinance. Foothills park is west of 280 along page mill road. It is next to the los altos hills, but only people in palo alto are allowed to use it. A lot of people say that the residents requirement is discriminatory. Reporter yes, it is a highly contentious matter, a City Ordinance some call divisive and elitist. Many want the role abolished, including the mayor, while others want to preserve palo altos environmental roots. Foothills park in palo altoand serene. But the beauty of this 1400 acre Nature Preserve marred with controversy for who can and cannot enter. This is an issue of ethics and morals. There is a right and wrong here. The right thing is to open up this park. Reporter the mayor of palo alto, among those wanting the park to be open to all. As it stands, only palo alto and scan enter the main gate on weekend. Visitors have conditions, they must be accompanied by someone who lives in palo alto, can visit on the weekday or walk in a different route. The city purchasing the park in 1959, the ordinance in place since then. At the time when the city of palo alto purchased the land that is now this park the city was engaging in a number of racist housing policies, including redlining and blockbusting, that were essentially designed to keep palo alto white. Reporter for that reason many see the park restrictions is discriminatory. I dont see the racism and it, but its unfortunate that has been brought into this conversation instead of focusing on the actual systemic racism that exists. My grandmother was in internment camps in world war ii. My dad came out of the camps fatherless. I definitely understand when there is explicit racism. Reporter some councilmembers argue entrance has nothing to do with race. Councilman tanaka says, at the time of purchase surrounding wilting cities, including los altos hills, didnt want to pay for the parks.
