Reporter from his bear kor polanco is mourning the death of his father gilbert, a san quentin prison guard first admitted to the hospital in july, after contracting the coronavirus, and then on life support. Sergeant polanco died at 5 00 sunday morning. Covid19 is a real thing. It takes peoples lives away. And my dad is one of those people, and he did not need to go at the age he was at. Reporter at 55 years old, he had wanted to become a prison guard after passing sandeep on a ferry ride in middle school. He saw one of the guards there as a kid, and he waved at my day. And my dad knew this man waved at him. Reporter after serving in the army and national guard, he worked at san quentin for 30 years. If untested inmates were brought in from a prison in china where there had been an outbreak. Vincent believes his father may have caught the virus while moving inmates. I dont think it was done correctly, personal, he as his son. They were kind of rushing it, pushing people. I dont think that they made should have been moved. Reporter a statement from the acting warden at san quentin said Sergeant Polanco demonstrated unwavering commit and bravery as a peace officer, working the front line every day during this devastating pandemic. Right now, cases at the prison and 25 inmates in all have now died from coronavirus.
