We have just a little bit of slowing that is approaching the ultima pass. There is a crash on westbound 580 at the dublin interchange. Watch for that. It is going to slow traffic and it has not been cleared yet. Traffic is going to be slow as you approach the 580 interchange. Lets go back to the headlines. New job numbers have just came out, and they show that u. S. Employers added significantly fewer jobs last month, then in june. Ktvus Alyssa Harrington is here to tell us what the numbers mean. Employers added 1. 8 million jobs last month, that is more than some economists had predicted but it is nothing compared to what we saw in june, where 4. 8 million jobs were added. It appears that the country is losing momentum. A lot of that has to do with covid19 and the surgeon cases that we saw in july. Todays report will put pressure on the white house to speed up negotiations on another stimulus package, so americans can get a new round of checks. Republicans are accused of refusing to meet in the middle, the big issues being discussed is whether or not bailouts will be offered to state and local governments and what to do about the 600 boost and unemployment benefits. The president had tweeted that he is working to notify a staff to continue working on an executive order, but there are limits to how much a president can do. And executive order will leave millions of people out. It will be litigated, it will not be effective. Things will simply get worse. The jobs report released today shows the Unemployment Rate is down two percent from 11 percent in june. Im Alyssa Harrington, mornings on fox 2. Thank you, alyssa, theres a new concern with so many people unemployed, and with the end of the extra 600 a week federal bonus and, economists are saying that the extra 600 per week will likely be what kept many families afloat. With a financial boost gone, many will turn to the high cost payday loans, just to pay bills. In california, payday loans have a 45 dollar weekly fee. If someone takes a 255 loan, they would pay a fee of 45 for every pay period that they have the loan outstanding. Consumer advocates say that people that take out one payday loan often end up taking another one, and enter a perpetual cycle of debt. A study finds that half of the unemployment claims filed in california for the week ending july 25 were reopened claims by people who had previously filed for unemployment. According to a new analysis by the california policy lab, many people filing for unemployment in july had filed for unemployment earlier and the pandemic, or temporarily rehired, and laid off again. Authorities say there is Police Body Cam video of the confrontation, but they are not sure when or if the video will be released. The suspect who was killed, a 35yearold man from Castro Valley that has not been identified yet. The k9 Police Officers dog had disappeared it during the incident, but has been found, safe. Kane, the dog was found in a backyard of a vacant home on pierce street. San Leandro Police say that the dog may not have been exposed to gunfire, and its training. This morning, the state Senate Committee will debate a proposed Police Accountability bill. It is aimed at helping family members of People Killed and officer involved shootings here in california. It is sponsored by lawmakers and prosecutors here in the bay area, including San Franciscos district attorney. It would correct the racial inequity that results when there is no currently available compensation for victims of police violence, for disproportionately people of color. The bill would pay restitution to the victims of police violence, and their families, and consider documentation other than a Police Report when determining who is eligible. Police organizations do not like it, and they say it would create serious Law Enforcement problems. A new projection from the university of washington predicts the death toll from tran nine will hit 300,000 by december 1. According to john hopkins university, 160,000 people have died because of the virus, and the same study finds that 66,000 of those projected u. S. Deaths could have been prevented if people wear masks outside of their home, during the next four months.
