We follow a developing story and oakland where police overnight shot and killed a man who had an assault weapon. This happened at 11 00 and San Leandro Police started chasing a stolen car. The driver crashed the car near apple and pyramid streets and oakland, that is where the shooting happened. San Leandro Police officer who fired the shots is now on administrative leave during the investigation, which is standard procedure. Civil rights attorney john perez will announce a lawsuit later today against the city of vallejo on behalf of the family of sean derosa. Monte rosa was killed in june and a walgreens parking lot, when police were responding to reports of vandalism at the store. The suit claims the department the officer involved had a history of firing his gun. The police chief union claims the officer who shot monta russell mistook a hammer that he was carrying for a gun. The Vallejo Police department has released more body camera video and the deadly shooting of willie mccoy, six officers. The 20yearold mccoy was shot and killed last year after he fell asleep in a car at a fast food drivethrough with a gun in his lap. Vallejo police say that when he woke up he had reached for the gun. Mccoy was hit by several dozen shots of the 55 fired by six officers. He died at the scene. An independent prosecutor is now reviewing the police shooting. An internal Police Document has revealed that the Vallejo Police chief, Shani Williams sought the termination of one of the six officers that were involved in mccoys shooting. More than one year after the incident, ryan mcmahon was issued a notice of intent to discipline and terminate. It details a safety violation against mcmahon for not observing safety standards, unsafe handling of weapons while on or off duty, and for incompetence. It is not clear if mcmahon is still on the force. Happening today, the Sonoma County board of supervisors will vote on fines for people who do not wear a mask during the pandemic. The crackdown is needed, some say to stop the spread of the virus. The fines can be as high as 500 for individuals, and 10,000 for businesses. The state of california has stopped removing or adding counties from the watchlist, trying to fix technical problems with the testing database. State Health Department has said that right now they cannot add backlog testing information to that system. It means that state Health Officials dont really know whether or not new cases are rising or going down. Yesterday the state had reported 5300 new virus cases, a lot lower than the 13,000 in one day two weeks ago. Santa clara countys Public Health director says that the drop may not appear to be as pronounced, once backlogged information is included. They are having technical issues. They have gone back maybe as far as mid july. For this, we do not know if our cases are rising, like towing, or decreasing. We are very anxious for the issue to be resolved. We expect that all of the numbers will be going up, and to what extent we do not know. State officials do not know when the databank will be fixed. In washington dc, not much progress and negotiations over a Coronavirus Relief package. Republicans and democrats have now expressed concern that there will not be a deal this week. One of the biggest sticking points is Unemployment Benefits. Democrats want to extend the 600 a week weekly bonus. Republicans want to give extra money, but dont want more people making more money on unemployment than they would during the job. The Senate Minority leader has said that renters need to be given Financial Assistance in addition to eviction protections. We can prevent americans from being kicked out of their apartments for another few months, but they cannot pay the rent, they will be right back at square one when the moratorium expires, with more unpaid bills piled up. A bipartisan deal is not close, so President Trump says he is considering executive action that will come in three areas, school loans, Unemployment Benefits and eviction protections. Solano countys Health Department is issuing guidelines that would allow employees and the county to test positive for covid19 to return to work, after isolating for 10 days, even with lingering symptoms. The Solano CountyHealth Officer had said that anyone who tested positive and who has isolated for 10 days is no longer infectious. The guidance is not in line with the cdc, that says people with more serious severe to critical symptoms have been found to be contagious for 20 days, after the onset of the symptoms. And sacramento, lawmakers are debating a bill that labor leaders essay will help save lives and safely reopen californias economy. Lawmakers and labor leaders had talked about the proposed bill, saying employers would have to notify workers about covid19 infections and workplaces, within 24 hours. The worlds first atomic bombing killed an estimated 140,000 people and contributed to the end of world war ii. The bombing on the city of nagasaki happened three days later. Ceremony commemorating the bombings usually bring out thousands of people but coronavirus fears meant this years crowd was much smaller. At the bay area, there were several bellringing ceremonies to mark the date and time of the first atomic attack. One of the bigger ceremonies to remember the bombing of hiroshima was held at japan town peace plaza. Living with her aunt and uncle at the time of the attack, she was just three years old.
