Reporter she lives with her parents, both high risk. One of 1600 teachers in san jose unified told to teach in an empty classroom to a computer while students learn from home. Patrick bernhardt is with the San Jose Teachers Union and said the School District may be overreacting. They definitely adopted a onesizefitsall situation. I think they are concerned about accountability. I think they have come under a great deal of criticism from some portions of the committee about how Distance Learning went through the spring. Reporter district officials said vantages in the classroom or wifi connectivity, tech support, but shared common areas will be thoroughly cleaned. The Middle ValleyTeachers Association staged a protest this evening, calling for right to choose whether or not they returned to classrooms for Distance Learning. The districts proposal has them returning to the classroom to instruct for five hours online. But the teachers say it should be up to them for their safety and for their students. They are currently negotiating with the Middle ValleySchool District. If you dont wear a mask in San Mateo County you may have to pay up. Today San Mateo County supervisors approved a measure that would find people and businesses that dont comply with Public Health orders. Individuals could be fined for refusing to wear a mask or for hosting large gatherings. Businesses could face fines for operating indoors when they are not supposed to. The county says administrative officers, rather than police or deputies, would carry out enforcement. Fines for people would start at 100 for a first violation and 200 for a second violation. They would go up to 500 for additional violations within a year. Business signs with certain 250 with a maximum of 3000 per violation. Some residents say that fines may be necessary to get people to comply. Just over 4500 new coronavirus cases were reported statewide yesterday. That is the lowest number in six weeks. Health Officials Say the average is down 10 from its peak a week and a half ago. The total case number is now more than 519,000. The test Positivity Rate has declined to 6. 7 , but deaths remain high at 113 just yesterday. The death toll now in california stands at 9500. At 11 00, Police Uncover a meth lab at a San Francisco hotel room that was meant to shelter people during the covid pandemic. Reporter a hazmat team responded and fortunately no one was injured. But they did arrest two adults for cooking meth at what was supposed to be a safe shelter. San Francisco Police say the call came in about a strong chemical odor coming from a hotel room. Officers responded to the Civic Center Motor Inn at about 2. 30 saturday afternoon. Police and residents had to wait for hazmat team. I was like shocked. Reporter one hotel guest said a Police Officer knocked on her hotel door. He was like yeah, there is a meth lab right above your room. So we need you to evacuate, because theyre going to explode at any time. Reporter police say they found a low level meth lab and an upper floor room. Officers conducted an investigation and discovered chemicals in the room known to make narcotics. Reporter elisa they also found drug and arrested two registered guests. We believe this was isolated only to one guestroom and two adults were taken into custody. Reporter the and is one of the many hotels contracting with infant School Shelter in place program, which pays to provide meals and rooms for people who need to be quarantined, or are at risk for covid19, or have no home. The arrests raise questions about who qualifies for the rooms, as many remain out on the streets, or on waiting list for shelter. I do see that a place like this can be abused to be used for this kinds of activities. He says quote, deputies responded to domestic disputes, overdoses and persons in crisis and checked in on all sites every few hours. And the sheriff says with San Francisco scaling back on reopening, he hopes to have those deputies resume patrols at hotels under the safe streets program. You at 11 00, Human Remains Found in a yellow construction bag in san bruno last month have now been identified. The remains were found on july 24th at the intersection of susan drive and jeffrey drive near skyline boulev bruno. The Corners Department says the remains are those of 37year old Dustin Schneider from vallejo. The case has been ruled a homicide, so far no arrests have been made. This week a new challenge for the San FranciscoMarin Food Bank in san rafael. The food bank says some of their trucks used to deliver food were sabotaged. The vandalism happened at the Food Bank Facility in san rafael. Police say they are investigating a strong lead. Reporter five delivery trucks used by the San FranciscoMarin Food Bank are now out of commission after someone porton acid like detergent into their gas tanks. According to the spokeswoman for the nonprofit the vandalism was discovered monday morning. A deacon with st. Andrew Presbyterian Church in marin city tells me the sabotaged caused a minor delay in delivery to its food pantry during its weekly monday food giveaway. 25 to 30 more hungry people are coming to us now that the pandemic has had than before.
