All right, a huge wildfire east of los angeles is still burning out ofcontrol. More than 32 square miles in Riverside County hamore than 80 evacuated. At least one home has been destroyed. Reporter a wildfire burning out of control in southern california, the blaze began friday night as two separate outbreaks in cherry valley. The doubling happened overnight. It scorched more than 20,000 acres and was 0 contained. Authorities ordered 8000 people to evacuate. Some are staying put. We feel very safe. Everything behind our homes has already burned. I think we are okay. The fire seems to be heading towards the reservation. Reporter they are working to slow the spread of the fire, but much of it is burning across rugged terrain, making it inaccessible for fighting vehicles. This challenge is coupled with low humidity, creating the perfect conditions for wildfires to grow. We are coming off of a weather pattern where we had high temperatures, but we didnt have wind. Reporter the coronavirus creates another layer of difficulty. They are now worrying about the potential covid19 outbrto how we get and how many incidents and needing of resources we will get. A fastmoving fire is also burning out of control in Northern California this morning. The sites fire started late after noon in colusa county. It has now grown to 1 1 2 square miles with 0 containment. The fire is threatening dozens of homes and forcing the evacuation of neighborhoods. Monterrey county is on high alert after a string of fires in the big sur area this weekend. Investigators say illegal campfires are to blame. There are four fires along highway 1. Firefighters have an Important Message for the people who plan to visit the big sur area this summer. Please dont come to big sur and have a campfire unless you are in a designated campsite. Firefighters say these are tied to a longterm problem in the area. Many are able to find a camping site. There are fires that are still burning. Today in washington, more negotiations between the white house and Democratic Congressional leaders on a new economic stimulus package. California has 512,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. In the bay area, we have 55,000 virus cases. State Officials Say the seven day average number of new cases has dropped down to about 7900 cases a day. That is down for more than 9800 the week before. The number of people in the hospital because of covid19 stayed statewide, has also gone down. The death toll among inmates at san quentin prison has gone up to 20. Officials say Orlando Romero died yesterday at a hospital outside of the prison. 146 inmates are now diagnosed with the coronavirus. There was this rally outside san quentin prison where protesters claimed that being held inside the prison was a death sentence. They say that the state is not doing enough to protect inmates from covid19. We are here demanding mass releases from governor newsom. 47 deaths have occurred across california since the start of the pandemic. 19, 20, 21, we cant keep track because it happens so frequently at san quentin. This is the state negligence on the state. They said that the inmate population is the lowest it has been in 30 years. They said more than a dozen inmates have been released from state prisons since the Virus Outbreak began. Tropical storm isaias could make landfall in the carolinas today as a hurricane. Reporter, steve harrigan, tells us storm surge watches are in effect. Reporter isaias was downgraded to a Tropical Storm on saturday. The powerful storm is still expected to bring torrential rain, strong winds and dangerous flooding. The prompts surge watches in florida and the carolinas. As the storm turns offshore, skimming the coastline, slowly moving north we know we are going to get some flooding. The hard thing is going to be the shelters. Happening today, a new coronavirus test center is opening at the Skywest Golf Course in hayward. It will replace the testing site at the hayward campus. Happening today, a park in downtown san jose, that will make you pay in place order, now that more people are driving again, you will have to pay to park again. San jose has a new plan that lets people who work downtown and earn 20 an hour or less to pay only half the normal parking permit fee. The city of lafayette is also charging for parking fees again.
