The wind is actually calming down a little bit this morning and thats helpful to firefighters at sfo. An on shore breeze at 21 Miles Per Hour. Everywhere is relatively calm. We dont have the marine layer. It helps to bring that humidity in and thats not happening this morning. But hopefully well return tomorrow. Current temperatures now, santa rosa at 52 degrees. Sal, police in San Francisco busy searching for the person who shot and killed the six year old boy in the Bay View District on the fourth of july. It happened saturday insight on whit field court. Investigators say six year old jays young was at a Friends Birthday Party when he went outside to watch fireworks. Thats when he was hit in the chest by a stray bullet. He died a short time later at a hospital. His family devastated say the boy was an innocent victim of senseless gun violence. He was so smart. He loved to read books, play video games and play with action fat the wrong time because that doesnt make sense. He was at a birthday party. An adult man was also wounded in the gun fire. Hes expected to survive. No arrests have been made yet. San Francisco Police are urging any witnesses to please give them a call. Cal fire continues to battle a fire burning north of gilroy this morning. The cruise fire has burned nearly 2. 5 square miles since it starts yesterday afternoon. There are evacuation orders where several homes are threated. 55060 families are impacted and two struck schurs have burned crews cannot say if theyre homes or other buildings. The park fire started saturday night near anderson reservoir. 80 people had to be evacuated there but they have been allowed to return at this point. The fire has burned 350 acres and its now 70 percent con aned. All the bay area firefighters we talked to say this was the busiest fourth of july weekend they have ever seen. We responded to and extinguished 110 fires. 108 of those fires were the direct result of fireworks. Firefighters in contra costa say there were 67 fire calls in a five hour period saturday night. One of the fires threatened 20 homes nus pittsburgh. Crews around the bay area say in addition to fighting flames they had to treat people injured by fireworks. The coronavirus pandemic is also creating a new hazard this fire season. California is facing a severe shortage of firefighting crews made up of prison inmates. The sacramento b reports less than half of the states inmate crews are available because of covid19 and the outbreaks in Northern California prisons. That includes the prison in last county where inmates are trained to serve on the fire lines. The inmates generally serve as hand crews using chain saws and shovels to create fire breaks when fires threaten property and neighborhoods. Our time is 4 36. A man has been arrested for allegedly pulling out a gun during an argument at the black lives matter mural. 30year old szuna yelled all lives matter as he drove past yesterday. Police say he stopped, got into an argument with someone at the location and pulled out a loaded gun. He was arrested a short time later, taken to the martinez detention facility and that arrest comes as Martinez Police are still looking for a man and woman who you see on a video vandalizing the black lives mural on saturday. Police are investigating vandalism at the San Jose Mission church in fremont as a hate crime. Police say someone painted painted the words native land on the outside of the church flattering paint on it to make it look like blood. The graffiti was reported saturday morning but police still dont know when it actually happened. A statue taken down in sacramento on saturday by protestors. Sera led missionary efforts in california back in the 18th century but he is seen by some as a controversy figure because of his treatment of native americans. Some people say they have been fighting to remove that statue for years. Were tired of asking permission. Were tired of compromising with people. Were not asking, were demanding. A suspect in the death of army soldier vanessa began is expected in court today. The family says the army confirmed found last week is the 20year old. Federal and military investigators say she was killed by a fellow soldier who then killed himself last week. That mans girlfriend is also facing charges for the disappearance. Protestors are calling for a deeper investigation. A rally held yesterday in sacramento and protestors say they dont think the investigation has been transparent. The family says she was sexually harassed by the man suspected of killing her. Thats a claim the army disputes. We believe there are more people involved. Everyone who is dead related to this case, theyre of color and they all were soldiers on this military base so were concerned this could be a hate crime. A march and vigil also held last night in houston where she went to high school. Our time is now 4 39. New this morning, bart has raised the price of parking at six bart stations in oakland. The fees went up because of a new tax on all parking fees collected city wide. So parking at the coliseum, fruit dale and lake merit and mcarthur and rock ridge bart stations went up from 3 to 3 3. 55. The daily rate at the west oakland bart station is now 12 12. 40. The city of oakland resuming enforcement of parking meters. City Officials Say theyre doing this as more businesses are reopening and shoppers need a place to pooshg. Park. Cars can actually sit in a parking space for hours keeping other people from using it. The city says all other parking regulations temporarily suspended including residential permits are still not being enforced. Its now 4 40. Happening today, the 23rd International Aids Conference gets underway in what is mainly an online event this year. 48,000 panels of the huge aids memorial quilt created in San Francisco 30 years ago to honor those who died from aids. Also 80 panels of the quilt will be on display at San Francisco and oakland city hall. Those two cities are the hosts of this years aids conference. So much love in that quilt.
