Police in San Francisco are looking for five suspects that robert two people at twin peaks around 8 50 last night. A man and a woman were on a foot drell when five people approached them and try to take the womans backpack. One of them and punched her and threatened to shoot her. It can lead to stereotyping. Theres a lot of science on that. Reporter Research Shows the mugshots foster biases about black and brown people. It is summed up in a book called suspect race, consequences of racial profiling. Placement of these images in the news media and now increasingly in social media promotes racial stereotypes that associate black people with prime. Reporter he says there isnt a clear benefit to Public Safety for publishing mugshots. But what is clear, the impact on the public psyche. It will increase and magnify and distort the perception and our memories and have the effect on individuals reporting crime, more Police Officers causing them to regard people of color with greater suspicion.
