On tuesday, California School superintendent tony thurman held an online hearing on the impact of Police Officers patrolling School Campuses after concerns. Feelings and trauma that they have experienced and witnessing, egregious acts of Police Brutality and racism. Several lawmakers say it is time for change of reform and that means removing armed officers from School Campuses. This coming after nationwide protest against Police Brutality. We know that black students are represented in arrest by school Police Officers, general dehumanization of children of color. Reporter he says his hometown of alameda recently decided to defund School Resource officers. They have also cut ties with law enforcement. Data from oakland unified indicates that Police Presence didnt increase safety. Some cited bomb threats, strangers on campus and natural disasters as reason for having Police Officers at schools but Nancy Skinner says there are alternatives like simply calling 911 to relying more on school leaders. At civic park in walnut creek. The family of myles hall called the police in june of last year saying myles was having a Mental Health crisis and threatened them with a metal pole. The police say myles hall was shot when he ran towards Police Officers holding the pole. Also today in sacramento, rally at the state capital by families of people who have been killed by police here in california. The rally is set for 10 45 this morning and will demand an end to police violence. Organizers who hold up the names and photos of almost 600 people who have been killed by police in california in the last five years. The fourth of july is going to look very different in San Francisco this year. The annual fireworks waterfront display has been canceled because of the pandemic. San francisco is also reminding people that fireworks that are not organized the displays are illegal in the city. A man carjacked a couple at the roadhouse restaurant on highway 1 in davenport. One woman says she saw the driver moments before he lost control of the car. New this morning, Hong Kong Police making their first arrest under a new security law passed by the Chinese Government to quell protests. Officers first arrested one man for waving a hong kong independence flag and a Woman Holding a sign displaying a british flag and calling for independence.
