That traffic is looking good. At the bay bridge it is late. Lets go back to the headlines. New this morning Antioch Police are investigating a fight at a Grocery Store that turned deadly. It happen last night at the lucky Grocery Store just before 10 00. Police say a 56yearold man caught a man trying to steal meat behind the butcher shop area and confronted the man. He said the man attacked him. Then a fight and struggle. The suspect suddenly stopped breathing. When the officers arrived on the scene, they found one subject who was unconscious. Didnt have a pulse. The officer began doing cpr until relieved by firefighters and paramedics. Paramedics eventually announce the person dead on the scene. Police say the cause of death likely wont be determined until the autopsy is performed. The employee involved was taken to the hospital for his injuries but is expected to recover. A vote last night by the Oakland School board to eliminate the School Police force. It happened at a Virtual SchoolBoard Meeting on the heels of protests around the country. The vote was closely watched by the oakland community. The co this is history in the making. Even the chief of the School District police force supports the decision but said the hard part starts now. A new School Safety plan is needed before the end of this year. The plan will need counselors. Its going to need Behavioral Health people. If we dont hire those people and put them into the schools, we are defeating the purpose of shutting the Police Department down. Then opd will show up to solve the same problems that we did. The chief said the 10 members of the Current Police force and more than 50 security guards handle about 1000 calls districtwide every semester. About 300 are for sexual assault, robberies, and other crimes that need immediate response. The School Superintendent wants a new plan by the first of the year. State education officials are reexamining having police in school campuses. Tony thurman, the state superintendent wants a new task force to hold a hearing next week. We are seeing data that shows in many cases that when there are police on campus, this results in more suspensions and arrests of students and in particular africanamerican students and other students of color. This is a condition that must be changed. The superintendent said police may still be needed in cases where students are threatened like bomb or shootings. Police should not be involved in discipline issues. Happening in washington, a plan by tom a kratz for Police Reform will be voted in the house of representatives one day after Senate Democrats blocked a republican plan they say doesnt go far enough. California is expected to reach more troubling coronavirus milestones today. The state expected to surpass the total of 200,000 cases. The last official count was tuesday. That is when california had more than 7100 cases topping the previous of 5000 set the day before. The total of 5700 people have died in california from the virus. San mateo supervisor wants to toughen californias mandatory face mask order. He sent a letter to Governor Newsom calling for fines against violators. Those caught not wearing them mask in public would first receive a warning. 100 fine for the second offense and 500 for every offense after that. Fines would not be issued by police but rather Community Service officers. What i am seeing out there is that people arent taking the virus seriously. This is serious. This is life or death. He said he has been threatened for his proposal but believes it is in the best interest of public health.
