It was saturday that she last saw her son, he left their home to work the graveyard shift at tesla. He and his coworker were killed early sunday morning. I would describe it as an exclusively horrific. Spec a 27yearold was allegedly driving drunk and driving the wrong way as she left south walnut creek. Its about 2 to 3 miles from where the first runway call comes out. Her ford fusion heading south on the northbound lanes and then crashed headon into the hunted civic killing that passenger and the driver. Friends of the victims want to know her whereabouts that night. Is a complete tragedy that could have been avoided. Nettie left behind a 20year old daughter who says that she had a soul of gold. You are taking peoples fathers from their kids, dont drink and drive. Torian leaves behind a two yearold and music and acting aspirations. His mother says she finds some solace knowing the to die together. I try to picture them holding each others hands from the impact and looking at each other and going out together. We learned tonight that the alleged drunk driver is in a Psychiatric Care facility facing regular manslaughter and felony dui. A vigil is planned for both victims at Deer Valley High School in antioch tomorrow night. Such a sad story. Palo alto police are searching for attempted homicide suspect, 30 say the person driving this red chevy suv shot a person in another car. The victim says he was waiting to turn onto embarcadero road when the suspect shot at his vehicle several times. The suspect drove onto highway 101 and the victim says the suspect is a male, Pacific Islander with dreadlocks in his 20s. Hundreds of demonstrators marched in oakland tonight with a message for mayor libby chef. The crowd marched up fruitvale avenue to the mayors home, calling on her to defund the Oakland Police department. Protesters took part on foot and in cars they also carried candles to honor victims of police violence. The Oakland School board met tonight to consider a new proposal to eliminate the School Police force. The superintendent endorsed the idea tonight and said the School Police chief asked to support the resolution. Jana katsuyama joins us now with more on what happened at that meeting. Reporter more than 300 people attended the Online Meeting and there was a lot of discussion. The board heard the resolution but there was no bow. There was plenty of public comment. Parents, teachers and Community Members stood with signs saying that the Oakland School District Police department should be eliminated. We dont want police in schools. We want teachers. The group has been calling for the change since 2011 after an officer shot and killed a 20 yearold near skyline high school. Board member rosie torres introduced the proposal wednesday night. This is the george floyd resolution to eliminate the oakland unified School District Police Department. The Police Department has 10 sworn officers and 57 sworn school officers. They say the 2 million spent on policing should go to other needs. I intend for this plan to be completed and ready for adoption i the end of december 2020. A petition by an oakland student had 15,000 signatures wednesday night. Board members and Community Members voice support but also noted the challenge. We ask that any resolution that is accepted to clear that we dont just replace these officers with opt officers. And others voiced concerns about student safety. We tried the Oakland Police department, contracting with them, but that did not work out because of their approach to the violence was unacceptable to many teachers and families. A representative of the Police Officers union said oakland officers are especially trained to work with students and that relying on the opd Police Officers is a concern. They dont have the bandwidth, vacancies are high and employment numbers are low. The School Police officers contract lasts until 2022 and they told the board that data shows they do help protect students. The board could vote on this at their next meeting on june 24. The superintendent says if it is passed they will form a Security Committee to help with the transition. The west Contra Costa School Board is considering something similar. The Teachers Union is proposing the district and its contracts with the the boards formal agenda but that union was asking people to speak out. Sonoma county is making a unified push toward police reform. The mayors and Police Chiefs from nine n. Bay cities came together today and pledged to review and reform their use of force. The leaders promised a new direction in policing with input from underserved communities. We are listening to you, we support you and we want to hear from you. The Sonoma County sheriff was also in attendance. One of his deputies was fired last year are using a chokehold on the suspect that died. That tactic has now been shelved by northbay agencies. One of the 4x Police Officers charged in connection with George Floyds death is out of jail today. Thomas lane posted the 750,000 cash bail today. He is due in court on june 29 and plans to request that all charges be dismissed. His Attorney Says his client is chauvin if they should roll floyd on his side. Developing news now on the Central Coast where the search is on for a con man who ambushed a sheriffs deputy. Official said the deputy was shot in the face outside the Police Station at about 3 45 this morning. Investigators say the shooter tried to draw officers to the area by opening fire near the Police Station. The deputy was responding to the report of shots fired when he was hit. He was airlifted to a Trauma Center with a head wound and is listed in serious but stable condition. Investigators say they think the killing of a homeless man found in the area is also related. They say the shooter intended to harm law enforcement. This was an ambush that he planned and intended for officers to come out of the Police Department and to assault them. It did not unfold in seconds as you heard from my timeline, it occurred over a period of time where the suspect was intending to harm or kill law enforcement. The San Luis Obispo Sheriffs Office released photos of the man they believe may be responsible for the shooting. He has dark hair and a beard and was wearing a tan sweatshirt, jeans and work boots. Our Crime Reporter says the gunmen may have targeted the wrong house. A number 4 balloon sits outside his house in vallejo where five people were shot during a birthday party. To women were killed and three other people were hurt. It happened in north vallejo just before 10 tuesday night. Vallejo police say a group of shooters were in the car and opened fire on the victims. They killed a 63yearold that was a year from retiring. Also killed was a 37yearold, family members say she was passionate and a single mother. I spoke phone to a woman who was smiths niece and washingtons best friend and said she was grazed by gunfire and her 10yearold son was shot and wounded. The boy is expected to survive as well as a fifth victim, a man. They think the shooters were gunning for the people next door. The victims were outside celebrating the birthdays of two girls, ages 1 and 4. Vallejo police have not discussed a motive for the shooting but ask anyone with information to give them a call. The state of california is prepping to require coronavirus testing at Florida State prisons. The sacramento b is reporting that knows swabbing will start at san quentin and the state prison in cochran next week. Workers are also being screened for virus related symptoms.
