>> to be honest, it is unreal. burned in contra costa county. you know? at first, i didn't think it would be this large. it is a true blessing that that fire started near willow pass road just before 5:00 last night. the latest report from cal fire says the fire is nearly contained. crews on the ground say air tankers helped them make progress before the strong winds set in and conquered. there are no reports of any of the homes burning. the cause of that fire remains under investigation. golds fire is fully contained this morning after it burned 107 acres. the cause of that fire as well, still under investigation. now to the ongoing protests in the bay area in response to the police custody death of george floyd. the demonstrators brought traffic on the world-famous bridge to the halt. it was just one of more than one dozen protests across the bay area. >> reporter: people from different racial backgrounds turned out by the hundreds at multiple protests around the bay area. the largest, a march across the golden great bridge golden gate bridge. to support the black lives matter movement. the march started at noon, and within an hour, the massive crowd expanded into the highway taking over the southbound lanes. another protest took place about wellness. >> as we try to take on the weight of the world, sometimes we neglect our own spiritual and mental health. we just brought people together to express their solidarity in a different way. >> we want to keep the community healthy through all the stuff that is going on. we decided to get everybody together and run a peaceful jog around lake mary. >> i was already here visiting my best friend who is a healthcare worker. i am a big mental health advocate, just supporting a cause and fighting for inequality and fighting for the right to be who we are. >> reporter: in hayward, there was a solidarity protest against the police actions that killed george floyd in minnesota, and breonna taylor in kentucky. >> they city hall to the police department. one car stopped him and occupants got out to join in, in taking a knee. >> in oakland, ktvu, fox 2 news. thousands of people gathered at the same city park. we want to show you this view from sky fox. that demonstration was taking place at the same time, dozens of people gathered in another area of the park for a new orleans style funeral. the demonstrators marched from the pleasant hill ymca to the city's police headquarters a few be blocks away. more protests planned for today, mothers and children are planning to hold a peaceful protest today. supporters of the man who was shot and killed by police in vallejo, they are planning a march and rally at 12:30. several others are taking place at 2:00, including salmon cisco, oakland, lafayette, among other cities around the bay. at some people point, we will see more protests, but we want to keep the conversation going. we are going to be hosting a program called "voices of change ." lawmakers and police will be spoke to about how to move forward and the changes that need to happen, that begins this morning at 9:30 a.m. city leaders are going to be holding a virtual town hall. that is because they want to hear from the community about an incident where an african- american man was detained while exercising in the street outside of his home. on friday, police released body can footage of the incident. the man did try to leave, but officers ended up putting him in handcuffs. he is outraged and is committed to having a full independent investigation. i know we have cooled down this week, but i saw the forecast, it looks like the heat is on this week, right? >> you are right. today, a lot like yesterday. a nice mild temperature, breezy in some areas but it was really breezy here where i live yesterday. we are going to get into some warmer weather for the week ahead. outside our doors, partly cloudy skies around the bay area. you can see the ripples in the water indicating wind. you can also see all the way to san francisco this morning. temperatures ranging from the upper 40s to upper 50s. temperatures are within a few degrees of yesterday, visibility is good out there. not as much fog along the coastline, so the low cloud cover, not quite as extensive as what we saw yesterday morning and we will call for partly cloudy skies for the entire afternoon. here is a look at the winds. nevada reporting 20 mile-per- hour winds. san jose reporting sustained at 13, sfo 12. we will warm up a tad, a few degrees, that is just about it. 74, your afternoon high for today. typically we are at 80 degrees for this time of year. very seasonal for some of our bayside communities. i will have a better look at your afternoon today, we will talk about the warm-up coming our way in the extended forecast, coming up. ♪ still to come in our next half hour, new music to uplift the spirits of people coming together in support of the black lives movement. styling standing in solidarity, the familiar face from the golden state warriors standing out in the crowd. all the dinners you didn't share with friends. the trips you haven't taken. keep track of them. each one means one less person vulnerable, one less person exposed, and one step closer to a healthier community. so for now, keep your distance. but don't lose count. we'll have some catching up to do. welcome back. black lives matter demonstrations are happening all around the world, that includes hong kong where a handful of protesters gathered outside the u.s. consulate there. they say it is a global issue. >> it is a global issue. people around the world will be looking at the u.s. and thinking to themselves obviously, black lives seem to matter that much, but we have to remind ourselves that despite all we see going on, black lives do indeed matter. >> protesters wrote to the council. there was a different kind of peaceful protest in downtown los angeles. protesters have laid hundreds of roses just inside those barricades. there are also banners calling for care, not cash. there was a famous the face in the crowd at a weekend march and rally in response to the death of george floyd in support of black lives matter. some of his teammates were at a similar demonstration across the bay yesterday. his teammates also took part in the demonstration that was dubbed the walk in unity. a small army of volunteers hit the streets of oakland over the weekend. they tried to clean up some of the trash left behind. they were carrying brooms and buckets, mops, and some other cleaning supplies. >> we have a ton of cleaning supplies, paint remover, window cleaner, that sort of stuff. tons of trash bags, brooms, and everything necessary to sort of cleanup oakland. >> must've looked volunteers say they support the recent demonstrations in the fight for racial justice. they do add it's important to keep streets of downtown oakland clean following those protests. your time now is 7:17. rosemary joining us, you know, rosemary, you set a little bit of sun peeking out and it was right on cue, a little bit of sun peeked outside the window. i am watching your forecast carefully. it was chilly yesterday morning, right? there, i saw people of all ages shaving their heads for cancer research. seven years ago, i was in the hospital for a very long time, and it was because of research that i was able to get better. i am not nervous, i am more nervous about the outcome, but i know even now, the feeling -- honestly, powerful. high, i mig some weird looks, i just want to do my part. >> we are up to -- we started with of you, frank, claudine, we are waking up with partly cloudy skies, we are not going to lose the wind. temperatures will only be slightly warmer for today, a nice 5 or 10 degrees jump expected. we are going to call for another breezy one, could be gusty at times, anywhere a litts and most urban areas as well. a better look at your current conditions, your afternoon highs for today, and more of that warm-up coming up. happening today, a vigil is put planned for a sergeant that was killed in the line of duty. it happened yesterday in the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: good morning, frank. santa cruz sheriff jim hart calls this an ambush, but did not elaborate. we don't know if the initial call was to lure officers and food authorities are investigated investigating if other suspects are involved. this all happened at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. the santa cruz sheriff's office says they got a call for a suspicious van parked near jamison creek road. the caller said they were bombs and guns inside. chef heart said sergeant damon gutzwiller and another deputy were shot at . another deputy was hurt, either shot or hit with shrapnel from a bomb, and other hit with a car as the suspect tried to leave the scene according to authorities. the sheriff's office are said they found the suspect who was reportedly armed. he was shot during his arrest. he was released from the hospital and will be arrested for murder, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, and other felonies. as for sergeant damon gutzwiller, he leaves behind a young child and pregnant wife. sheriff hart says his legacy will move on. >> i have known him long before 2006 when he was a volunteer. >> a vigil is planned for today at 2:26 p.m., the exact time yesterday that they got reports that an officer was down. coast to coast, protesters are demanding change their demonstration. they are taking to the streets urging for changes within police departments to address police brutality. as reporter ray brogan reports, washington, d.c. protests were the largest they have seen yet. >> reporter: saturday brought pushing for change. est crowds from coast to coast, massive groups of protesters are marching, hoping their peaceful protests will result in policy change. >> there is power in people, there is power in numbers. >> reporter: washington, d.c. seeing the largest number of demonstrators in the city since george floyd's debts, at one point, a group of healthcare workers showing the crowd there on the front lines of this national fight. people are also gathering in minneapolis. >> this is systemic. it's going to take some level of systemic change. >> reporter: summary it is not the right move. >> it is a knee-jerk reaction. this one-size-fits-all is misguided. >> reporter: house and senate democrats are announcing their reform efforts on monday. hundreds of family and friends gathered for memorial service in brief in north carolina, just miles of where george floyd was born. his loved ones dying his death will not be in vain. the time number 7:37. we will take a closer look at that service that honored george floyd yesterday in north carolina. the service was held in raeford north carolina, about 20 miles from where george floyd was born. floyd's death needs to bring about change. >> it took until i heard george floyd pled i can't breathe, please, for me to really really see what is happening to our black community. >> it's too many, it's too much. all of these victims have died of police violence. >> we need a change. how many more lives? how many, that's what i keep world to show solidarity with protesters here in the united states. demonstrations were taking place from paris to berlin. people came out to remember george floyd and to demand change. >> i am here because i am tired. i am tired of people not treating everyone as equally as they should be treated. we are ready for change. it's time. it's time to make a change. >> demonstrations in london had protesters saying they would contin processing until police brutality is stopped. the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow here in california. there were more than 1700 new cases reported since friday alone, bringing the total number of cases to more than 128,000. there have been 4600 deaths. the area death toll remains unchanged. because of all of the large crowds gathering in and around the country to protest the death of george floyd, there could be a second wave of covid- 19. >> what happened to all the precautions we were all supposed to be taking to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and might we see an uptick in cases not because of these big gatherings? it is certainly true that a lot of these protesters are wearing face masks, but not all of them. when you add to that, possible exposure from the police, and national guard troops, this could prove to be a dangerous mix. new york has just seen a big surge in cases, but mayor bill de blasio does not think the protests are to blame, at least not yet. >> we are going to watch that very carefully. i will certainly be talking to our healthcare team. i would be surprised if that is what's causing it. we are much more likely, in the next week, 10 days, to see a manifestation if there is one. >> that would be because of the incubation period. let's take a look at the latest numbers, there have been 1.8 million cases, and more than 108,000 deaths. some public health experts are now reversing themselves on big crowds. saying that in the case of these protests, the risks of public gatherings are worthwhile but the world health organization just changed his social distancing cannot be maintained. police and parents tried to ban similar gatherings in that city because of fears that it would lead to more spread of the virus but ultimately the several hundred protesters showed up, nonetheless. in washington, foxnews. some boarded up storefronts in downtown oakland are now turning into works of art. some local artists are doing some creative painting on the plywood that is being used to protect doors and windows on businesses. >> we really support the black lives matter movement, it felt really -- almost like putting up walls against the protests, we don't want to lose our financial investment, obviously. we also really support change happening. >> many of the business owners recently boarded up their shops and stores because of recent protests. other shop owners had already boarded up because of the pandemic. 24 hours after we are talking and maybe complaining about the cold temperatures, you are already talking about big changes heading our way. that is how these last few weeks have gone. >> you are right but it's a little too hot for some, it's a little too cold for others but we just keep on this roller coaster ride. temperatures today, very similar to yesterday. a little bit cool for your blood. as we get into the week ahead, temperatures are going to warm will be the start of another warming trend. details coming up in just a little bit. a rescue in the san francisco bay, the people saved by the u.s. coast guard after their sailboat began taking on water. sending out passionate please from northern california, the message from protesters after day nine of rallying in the state capital. that is all coming up next. thousands of people joined members of the sacramento branch at the naacp for a weekend rally that was held in downtown sacramento. reporter kristi gross tells us they were calling for an end to racial injustice and police brutality. >> reporter: on the ninth day of protests in sacramento, people were just as passionate for their please of justice as they were on day one. the sea of people, some wearing protective masks filled downtown as far as the eye could see. >> black lives matter. we are here trying to use our voice. >> i had to come out here today. i have black brothers, i have black cousins, i am black. >> reporter: they rallied at cesar chavez plaza. >> all of our americans who aren't black, my message to you is to fight to the end with us. don't give up, we need you. we need you. we need you. >> reporter: in unison, protesters chanted breonna taylor's name. protesters say she was another victim of police brutality. those officers should face charges. >> we are tired of it. >> reporter: fighting for justice and and and for police totality. >> we have been fighting for generations, and it hurts, because it's not enough change. >> reporter: protesters hope that this will lead to real progress. >> this one is different. the whole nation is behind us. everyone in the nation is enraged, we have never had a full support from every state, all 50 states, even other countries. >> reporter: after addressing the crowd in the park, the mayor says he is ready tostart work on systemic changes. smack this is maybe the greatest awakening that we have had in my adult lifetime. i feel it, i feel it very deeply. >> reporter: some protesters met his remarks with skepticism. >> once again, that was kristi gross reporting. a black lives matter mural has now been painted on the street. it was painted by local artist demetrius washington with the help of the volunteers in the sacramento area. the time now is 7:50. the u.s. coast guard came to the rescue after their sailboat be it was a very windy, choppy day. indigency crews rushing to the scene shortly after getting word the 16 foot sailboat had been taking on water per the coast guard said they were able to get both men safely off the sailboat, and out of that chilly water. fortunately, nobody was hurt. it was windy yesterday, i know that wildfire is not helping that in the winters area. we are going to get hot again, to identified as stephen korea carrillo was armed and shot at some point during his arrest. as for sergeant damon gutzwiller, he he leaves behind a young child and a pregnant wife. >> he will be deeply use of a deadly officer involved shooting that happened in oakland. the man who was driving the car has not yet been identified with a woman was taken to the hospital and is being treated for gunshot wounds. no other officers were injured. the district attorney's office is investigating. about 100 people in solano county have been forced out of their homes due to wildfire. the fire is just by present contain. homes and other buildings are threatened. cal fire is leading the firefight and said they need support. >> the winds have been pretty strong. once a spark ignited the fire, they are pushing the fire very quickly. >> there have been two other fires in the bay area. the fire started near willow pass road just before 5:00 last night, it is not fully contained -- now fully contained. which went up in flames, my goodness, early friday evening. investigators are still trying to find out how that fire got started. transportation experts say the airline industry is likely to shrink as much as 20% baseball. u.s. airlines did receive that $25 billion to keep them going in the early stages of this pandemic. in exchange for that money, the airlines could not lay off their workers. that money runs out at the end of september. industry leaders say unless people start traveling again, they are going to have to park planes and cut payrolls. a foster city company is -- bloomberg news is reporting that gilead sciences is now discussing a possible merger with the executives of the british drugmaker. there is no word yet on the terms of that reported deal, the merger would bring at harmony hill. you can see police cars blocking the area as they continue the investigation. these intersections take you to wahlberg road. sergeant damon gutzwiller was shot yesterday afternoon. they say the situation started at 1:30 p.m. the sheriff's office said that they got a call for a suspicious man parked near jamison creek road outside of ben lomond. the caller said there were guns and bomb-making materials inside the van. deputies spotted the van driving off. they eventually found it at a home on wahlberg road. that's when sergeant damon gutzwiller and another deputy were shot at. explosives were thrown at them. the sheriff called this an ambush. he did not elaborate. we don't know if the initial call was to lure officers in. authorities are investigating of other individuals were involved. the sergeant was shot and taken to a hospital where he died. a hospital took care of him. the suspect was involved in a carjacking after the shooting, possibly. he was armed when he was found. at some point during his arrest , he was charged with carjacking and other felonies, according to the sheriff's office. sergeant damon gutzwiller leaves behind a young child and a pregnant wife. he has been with the sheriff's office since 2006. he knows it's tough on others in the department and this was his worst day on the job. >> i will after -- offer all of our staff grief oakland. they say a man and woman were killed at 96th avenue and cherry. this was all around 10:45 last night. the man who was driving the car has not yet been identified. the woman was taken to the hospital and was being treated for gunshot wounds. oakland police say no officers were injured. the alameda district attorney's office is investigating. hundred people have been forced out of their homes by a wildfire. some homes remain in the path of the fire. it has burned 1400 acres near pleasant valley road in the town of winters. the fire is only 10% contained. three buildings have been destroyed. crews cannot yet tell if there are crows -- homes in its wake. besides the quail fire, there have been two other fires in the bay area. the gulch fire is in sonoma county near lakeville highway, and the contra costa county the willow fire burned 100 acres near the old concorde weapon station. that started near willow pass road, highway 4, just before the last night. those flames are now fully contained. few homes were threatened. there are no reports of any of those being damaged. this video shows the fire last night, that burned 107 acres. it started south of petaluma yesterday afternoon. the cause of all three fires remain under investigation. several more protests are planned for today. these demonstrations come in response to the death of george floyd and the ongoing issue of police brutality. they come in support of the black lives matter movement. mothers and their children are planning to hold a peaceful protest at 10:00 at dolores park in san francisco. supporters of the man who was shot and killed by the men in vallejo are also planning a march and rally at the emmanuelle church at 12:30. several others are taking place at 2:00. that includes in san francisco, oakland, lafayette, among other cities. there were several demonstrations yesterday. the largest was a march held at the golden gate bridge. you can see video of the noontime march. there were thousands of people who took place in the demonstration. at one point, they moved from the sidewalk and onto the southbound lanes of the bridge which did briefly shut down traffic. across the bay, more than 200 people gathered for a different type of demonstration. the protesters were black in support of the black lives matter movement. the demonstration was also designed to promote dental health during this time of crisis. >> as we take on the weight of the world, we neglect our spiritual and mental health. we brought people together to express solidarity in a different way. >> we want to keep the community healthy. we are promoting mental and physical health. we decided to get everyone together and do a peaceful job. >> george floyd! >> protesters marched from hayward to city headquarters. that's where they took a knee. today, city leaders are holding a virtual town hall to hear from the community about an incident where an african- american man was detained while exercising in the street right outside his home. on friday, police released body cam video which happened on may 23rd. a woman called about a man who was dancing on the street. the man tried to leave, but officers put him in handcuffs. the vice mayor says he is outraged and committed to ensure a full independent investigation. at some point, protests will die down. we want to keep the conversation going at ktvu. beginning today and for the next several weeks, we are hosting voices for change. ktvu's greg lee will speak with local civic rights leaders, lawmakers, police, about how to move forward and make change. the changes certainly need to happen. you can watch it, it kicks off at 9:30 right here on ktvu. weather-wise, it's a good weekend. if you can get out and about, keep the social distancing. it's a nice sunday. we have a hotter week ahead, rosemary. >> yes, it's a pleasant one when it comes to the temperatures. when it comes to the wind, not so much. it is breezy. this will continue into sunday. all in all, we only have minor changes. we are waking up with partly cloudy skies. here is a look over san jose. there are beautiful clouds in the distance. it is in the upper 50s in oakland and san jose it's in the 60s. that is an improvement for santa rosa. it started in the upper 40s. that is a bit of a chill. that is no longer the case as you are rebounding along with the rest of the bay area. here's a look at storm tracker two. you can see clear sky for today. again, the bigger story is going to be the wind. it is breezy and gusty out there. wind is at about 14 miles per hour, sustained. it is gusting near 20. oakland has a wind of 20, gusting to 22. that is stronger in some of the hills. middle creek is reporting 29 miles per hour. mt. diablo has come down quite a bit. they were close to 30 miles per hour, now at about 17. when it comes to the temperatures, we are very seasonal around the bay and along the coastline. we are below average for this time of year. typically, the high would be 80 degrees. concorde will be below average and san jose will be as well. before i let you go, how about a look around? we've got 65 in areas over san francisco, 70 in oakland, 70 expected in livermore. we have a warm-up coming our way. temperatures are back into the 90s for inland cities in the days ahead. details on this are coming up in just a little bit. thanks, rosemary. staying in solidarity with protesters, the familiar face from a golden state warriors who joined that crowd. children are returning to summer camps. we will tell you how camp counselors are going to make changes to make sure that children can learn and have fun safely. black lives matter demonstrations are being held around the world. that includes in hong kong, where a handful of protesters gathered outside the u.s. consulate. they say the problem is visible in the u.s., but it's a global issue. >> is a global issue. people will be looking at the u.s. and thinking to themselves that black lives don't seem to matter too much. we have to remind ourselves, despite all we see going on in the united states and all parts of the world, black lives do, in fact matter. >> they criticized police brutality and racism, then left peacefully. >> there are also barricades at the hall of justice. protesters are inside the barricades. there are banners calling for care, not cash, and justice for george floyd inside the barricades. the time is 9:14. summer camp is in full swing. covid-19 is not canceling summer camps. they are modified a bit. there are plenty of camps open for kids to learn and grow safely. >> i know parents are thinking, what am i going to do with my children when school is over? we cannot really venture out into the big world just yet. >> reporter: she is the owner of the dance association. she has dance studios around the globe. the summer studios are now 100% virtual. if you want something more traditional, don't be shy. ask a lot of questions. >> if you're looking for something in person, go to the website of the camp you are looking at. go to the social media. ensure that they are clearly communicating their safety procedures and policies that have been introduced because of covid-19. we want to ensure that they are putting safety at the core of the summer camps. >> reporter: san francisco county will open camps in june. due to social distancing, the capacity will be cut by 90%. this means a number of kids will be shut out from the social component which is desperately lacking in a virtual camp. >> that's what kids need at the moment. they need to nurture and embrace the creativity, as well as being socially engaged. schools are going to end soon. the connection they have with their friends will go away. make sure that theyare engaged with their friends during this time. >> dr. founded a program. while some activities are fun, she believes students should push ahead. that's why she's offering campers a one-of-a-kind virtual experience. >> what we realized is, there is a gap in the connection between someone who works at a company and a teenager or student who wants to know more about the company, what the opportunities are, and what the job is like. our virtual camps are for people who are interested in law, medicine, finance, consulting, it would put you in front of people. >> reporter: this would get students insight on jobs to get a leg up. whatever your summer camp preference, she says, sure your kids are active and engaged. >> we have one of the largest summer breaks. some students lose a month to 2 1/2 months of all the learning they did in the year prior. >> reporter: with that in mind, they could not stress enough the importance of getting your kids outside this summer. let them unplug a little bit. they need to recharge after all the time behind the computer, going to school. they need to do it safely. yes, the weather makes us want to get out and be social. i think rosemary likes to run. i like to as well. all of those components are good for people of all ages. >> yes, if you're going to be out and about, you need to wear a hat. be prepared, you might hold onto the hat. the breeze is going to continue. there is no wind advisory. wanes could reach 25 to 30 miles per hour, especially gusty along the coast. here's a look at the system providing us unseasonably warm weather. we do have areas over the pacific northwest with rain and snow. washington, oregon, even into northern california and the sierra is picking up. levels are expected to drop down to 5000 feet. that will impact the pass. there is not a lot of accumulation. you can expect roadways to be slick over the sierra. i want to give you a look at the entire country. while our pattern is on the cool side, take a look at the central and eastern part of the country. my goodness, they are 2 to 3 hours ahead of us. is 83 degrees in miami. let's take a look at our numbers. we are in the upper 50s in walnut creek, 59 in santa rosa. we will have high pressure build back in once this system moves off to the east. in the meantime, we will have mild temperatures and easy conditions. we have a sustained wind atoudy with mild temps and breezy conditions. we are looking at 65 degrees in san francisco. for the south bay, low 70s are expected. it is 74 in morgan hill. around the bay, temperatures are right where they should be. the inland cities are five or 10 degrees below the seasonal norm. that will not last. take a look at the forecast. amateurs take a notable jump by monday afternoon. they are in the upper 70s around the bay. we don't stop there. by tuesday and wednesday, cities are back into the 90s. then we will cool it down a little bit as we go into thursday. back to take a look at this twitter post. there is steph curry, taking part in the march. he along with his wife aisha and the couple's three children were all there. some of steph curry's teammates were at a similar demonstration across the bay. yesterday, you had people leading in march in downtown oakland. his teammates also took part in the demonstration which was dubbed, the walk in unity. a small army of volunteers in oakland worked together to clean up trash that was left behind from nearly 2 weeks of demonstrations in the downtown area. they gathered near the police station yesterday morning to begin work. they were carrying brooms, buckets, mops. they had a bunch of other cleaning supplies as well. >> we have paint remover, window cleaner, tons of trash bags, brooms, everything necessary to clean up oakland. >> most volunteers say they support marches and demonstrations in the fark -- fight for racial justice, they add that it's important to keep the city clean following the protests. california will allow tv production to start up on friday. before anyone can yell action, production teams must produce social distancing. artists must wear personal protective equipment unless they are on camera. there must be temperature checks as well. officials will sign off on resuming production before any work can begin. abbey road studios has reopened in london. the recording studio was closed for nearly 3 months. the first recording was with the royal philharmonic orchestra. several artists have recorded at the abbey road studio, including the beatles, abba, and oasis. >> it feels
