Symptoms seen in children. Youre smiling this thursday morning especially for those that live out high in to coast. Hey, are you thinking about flying . I am thinking of asking you at home . Would you jump on a plane . Indeed, people are flying. Last friday 348,000 travellers went through tsa checkpoints. Thats the highest number since march 22nd. Welcome, everyone. I have been debating this and Everything Else. What is safer and cleaner. Are you going to discuss on a plane or uber or lyft, what about bart here in the bay area. Thats been down 93 . Know that theyre working on a plane, and i will ask you this and sal, i will start with you. I will answer it first. I think that i would rather fly first. I think thats just i think the Airline Industry is going rebound quicker than the ride share and even bart. What do you think is going to bounce back first. What is going jump in first . Well, i think rather drive somewhere first out of caution. Maybe drive somewhere in california. Take a little vacation. I am not opposed to flying. I will wait on that. A little rode trip in the car and get on the road, i would be good with that and do something that were not going to a big crowded area. For my family, that morns disney is out for a little while. We will go back to that, but not now. What about you . Yeah, i think its about baby steps. I think that a rode trip is good. Then you have to say are you comfortable in a hotel and where do you stop . Gas stations and things along the way. The second flight is going easier why. Its just about smoothing the way back in to it. Every step that we take makes the next one a little bit easier. Thats what we hope. We will have to see about that. Lets talked to about twitter because thats the discussion today. President trump is expected to sign an executive order that actually targets the social media companies. He is threatening to crack down on the companies and thats after twitter had a flag checked flag to the tweets. Ktvu is watching this story and joining us now live with this on what to expect. Good morning, alicia. Good morning. Well , its clear that the president is not backing down on the threats. He tweeted about it this morning. I want to show you the tweet. Today is a big day for the social media and fairness. The white house is taking aim at twitter after two of president Donald Trumps tweets about mail in bail outs were marked. Frump tweet that had the process was fridge lent. California plans to send the mail in ballots to every voter in the state ahead of it and several other states are considering the same option to prevent voters for being exposed to covid19. I can tell you that republicans have enjoyed much success with voter by mail. Theres no Scientific Study that says one part or the other benefits. My first reaction with twitter is who do they have doing the fact check . I would think that it would be pretty possible to find someone thats nonpartisan. Now, the president did threaten to regulate or shut down the platforms. What he is going is look different. The order is expected to argue the company should lose protection and did not receive the federal advertising checked it if it contained the misleading information. I dont think that facebook in general should be the truth. I think thats kind of a dangerous line to get down in terms of just deciding what is true and what is not. This is the first time that twitter has used the claims on the president s tweets. Reporting live with ktvu fox 2 news. Thanks. Coming up on mornings on 2, the unemployment numbers across the country at the highest since the great depression. In the next half hour, where stands. Undocumented immigrants during the pandemic. How an app is helping them to gain access to the california relief fund. A first relief vapid of the kind allowing undocumented immigrants in cal to apply for Financial Assistance during the pandemic. To help those that want to learn more, were joined by the ceo, anne an app that helps to connect when navigating everything from visa to health care. Welcome to ron. Ron, this app is actually pretty good. I tried it a little bit. First of all, it says where are you from and where do you live now. I would imagine that its so helpful for people that are here that have no friends were support or family. So first of all, thanks for having me. I really appreciate it. We created it because i think that we want to build a Better Internet for immigrants. In a way, i continue think that Silicon Valley has ever taken the immigrant community and tried to designate a product for them. What were trying to do is help the immigrants across the country to have a better start to somewhere tools to build their own communities. Covid19 met us in the miding of a joshny. Since then i think that everybody has changed for us because the struggle is real and difficult. I would say for the immigrant communities. Ron, exactly what you said about covid19 because this app was up before covid19, but now is it more critical for people to get that sort of help because, you know, we have a pandemic and its hard, but now its harder. Yeah, its way harder. I think that sometimes people do not see it, but immigrants are affected first. Its one of the most vulnerable communities. In the country and then unemployment. Were seeing Health Problems because a lot are undocumented and a lot do not have insurance. The main thing is that theres a lot of fear because the administration is not immigration friendly. Theres a lot of fear that even the help thats being offered is being scared by the Data Collection and people by the way do not have enough english at times and do not understand what they get. I think that, you know, it goes below the radar. Immigrant communities in the time of the pandemic are severely hurt these days. Today as you heard, california is starting the fund for undocumented immigrants. How is the app going to help these make it easier to get that assistance . Yes, they can. I will say before i talk about this struggle that this is the first state that actually thought ability the undocumented immigrants. I think that its great. The problem is that its really complex to get your money. Theres 75 million being allocated and 500 per person and then a thousand for a family of undocumented immigrants. Seems everything goes to a Nonprofit Organization and its really hard to go and demand or ask for the stimulus. Were helping tremendously by helping, you know, everybody on our app to understand how and what is the access to the money. Thats different based on the country th to help people to understand that the data is not being collected. A lot of immigrants are really afraid. I dont know if youre surprise today hear that its the methodology to help with the information on that. I think that were doing a good job and were in the middle of helping the process. I can also say that, you know, its the money is very hard to get right now. People are spending hours by hours on the line waiting for help. The system is not flawless yet. Theres a lot of allocating the money. You can find the app in the app store. The creator joined us now and ron, thank you so much. I hope that you can help some of these immigrants. Yeah, were all immigrants. Im an immigrant and the company is company of immigrants. This is our idea right now. Thank you for joining us, ron. Thank you so much. Time now is 9 19. Now, theres a fierce debate over whether or not enough is being done to protect the inmates and the guards. Ktvu reporter has the details on the outbreaks and the response. Nine inmates have died at a single california prison. We have heard from other inmate that is say that they feel unsafe while more testing is happening, over crowding sa, share spices and limited protections has some faulting the state. As a new daybreaks at the california san quentin prison, so does the reality. Inmates describe the in human conditions amid the pandemic. Theyre fearful. Theyre fearful of what can happen. Lisas son is one of those inside of the unit where offenders left in the sentences. In letters sent to the senators, they describe grossly over populated dorms and the ability to keep distant. My son says that theyre probably two feet between, you know, the two sets of bumps. Its very stressful for them. Californias 35 prisons have long been over crowded. The state houses close to 109,000 people, but the prisons are only designed for 85,000. At the California Institution for men, this is what it looks like inside. The photos were part of an attempt by the Prison Law Office to force the state to implement physical distancing and reduce the prison populations during the pandemic. Its a very dirty fermented. Its a very stressful environment. Its an environment where they are just too many body s bodies. Theres hundreds of people using the same toilet and sink, having food prepared by those that may be infected. Nearly half of the prisoners are a high medical risk. California has granted an Early Release to 3,500 inmates and all were win 60 days of getting out any way. There are no plans to free anyone else. Despite the legal earths, forwhere they are. Given the consequences of the action, i would give them an f. In late april the prison cases of coronavirus near erie tripled. The first outbreak was at the California Institution for men. Thats where nine inmates have died and more than 630 have tested positive. Its actually senseless. The deaths that have occurred. Im going to be honest. They were completely foreseeable and preventable. The department of corrections responded here with the temporary housing and including bathrooms and showers. In total, 300 inmates have been move from the open dorm settings. Then a second outbreak and this time at the California Institution for woman outside of la and more than 125 cases. The state would not provide an on camera interview, but a spokesperson says that everyone is undergoing Health Screenings and covid19 tests and given masks and hands sanitizer. I would just ply to them that they can do more. Back at san quentin, the cries came in the form of this petition. Dozens say staying six feet or more away from one another is impossible among other problems. Theyre going three to four days without any hand sanitizer, any soap. The state says that new steps are being taken including deep cleanings in the areas every three hours. The corrections officials also admit in the Court Filings that it cannot manage the behavior of every individual inmate. The mom has turned the fear in to action using her fashion degree, he is sewing masks and sending them off to the california prisons and hoping that its going stop a virus thats in factoided 1,200 inmates across the state. Even if someone made a mistake, theyre still a human being. They still deserve to be treated with dignity. They still need to be protected. Guards in prison staff are not immune either. State data shows 230 have been affected. Right now, all staff has the temperature taken before going inside of any california prison. Brook with ktvu fox 2 news. All right.
