This is a live look where firefighters are working to put out re at a carport. The fire started just before 6 30 a. M. This morning near North Jackson avenues Regional Medical center. People are told to stay away as a precaution so crews can be sure there are no downed power lines as a result there. Water is still being put on that fire. This is all a collaboration between california, washington and oregon. Together the governors of each state are figuring out the best ways to loosen stay at home restrictions while still being safe to avoid another coronavirus outbreak in the future. The governors will all have their own plans to restart life and business again, but all three will follow the same frame work. We dont know the details of the california plan just yet, but in a joint statement, the governors say their goals are to detect vulnerable populations, make sure hospitals have supplies, and protect the public by coming up with a plan for testing, tracking and isolating. Washington and oregon helped california during wildfire season as well, so this plan just continues the partnership. Again, its a spirit of collaboration, a spirit of partnership, a recognition that this pandemic knows no boundaries, no borders. Researchers at Johns HopkinsUniversity Report this morning the global number has climbed above 1. 9 million cases. There have been nearly 120,000 deaths around the world. The number of confirmed cases in the United States grew to 582,000 and more than 23,000 deaths. Here in california there are more than 24,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and our state has seen 732 deaths. A city councilman in union city mourning the death of his grandmother at the gateway care and Rehabilitation Center. The 84yearold became the first person to die from the coronavirus at that rehab center. Just last week she had a severe cough. She was rushed to Kaiser Hospital early friday morning. She not only had covid19, but she also had pneumonia. Her kidneys were starting to go bad. Her heart was under a lot of stress. He said his grandmother had high Blood Pressure and arthritis but no major Underlying Health problems. Starting on friday, people who live in Sonoma County will be required to wear masks in public, with very few exceptions. People who dont comply will face a misdemeanor charge. It does not apply to those under two and masks are not required when youre driving alone or going for a walk or run. This is the first bay area county to require masks. The nugget market chain in the north bay is requiring customers to wear face masks when they shop. The chain is making it mandatory to protect workers and other customers. Last week workers were told to wear a mask and required to have their temperature checked at the start of the shift. Anyone with a fever over 100 degrees is sent home for the day. Today educators in the Oakland School district will announce a campaign to help undocumented families during the pandemic. Teachers and principals are asking other educators and the public to donate part of your stimulus check to undocumented families who are not getting help from the federal government. Oakland effect tours say up to 75 of families have seen incomes greatly reduced or just wiped out in recent weeks. The federal stimulus package adds trillion. Part of that money is designed to get cash into the hands of Small Business owners, facing huge problems during the pandemic. M. , tests will now take place on the campus of cal state east bay after moving from fire station 7. The new testing site is in the parking lot a on west loop road, and it can handle more cars. Outreach workers with a latino focused nonprofit are handing out free face masks to farmers. Some describe them as the forgotten essential workers. We need farm workers. They are trying to buy face masks for workers but it will take weeks for a shipment. These masks will offer some protection. One 65yearold farm worker spoke in spanish through a translator. It means a lot, because during this time we all need to be safe. Reporter the face mask project was inspired after seeing unprotected farm workers in fact Half Moon Bay community. Police arrested a man accused of stealing a covid19 specimen on its way to be tested in a lab. Police say the 40yearold man walked into the hospital saturday afternoon, grabbed the specimen, and took off on a bike. He later abandoned the specimen and it was found intact at a shopping cart at a cvs store. At that point we confirmed it had not been opened or tampered with based on the security seals. Police say the man is homeless and they dont believe he intended to hurt himself or others. The investigation is ongoing. Police say a pastor was caught hiding dozens of worshipers inside his church on sunday. Nearly 60 people were found inside the church with doors locked and cars parked out of view. The pastor said he felt the social distancing rules were just recommendations, adding that churches should be exempt anyway.
