Unfortunately are just not in a position to confirm any of the numbers confirming them you got access that are coming out of social media and some of the few reporters left in china h confirm any of those numbers. Admiral mike gill they said the u. S. Navy is making progress on the situation aboard the uss roosevelt in guam. At least 93 crewmembers have tested positive positive for coronavirus for the navys work , to identify hotel rooms and other facilities in guam where they could be housed practical coming up here on the for foxnews across the country and around the world preparing for an influx of patient still to come. Theyre looking for large landmass areas so they can get up to 250 people into these makeshift hospitals but keep in mind they also theoretically are not going to be treating coronavirus patients but what we are hearing at the javits enter in new york as they are enough room between patient, six feet. Ktvu is partnering with food banks all around the bay area to help them raise money during this critical time. Your donation will help ensure that food will remain available for those who need it most. Joining us this afternoon is paul ash executive director of the San Francisco maron food bank. We really appreciate you coming on to talk about these important issues facing our community how great is the need . Many more people are turning to food banks like yours at a time like this question might thanks, alex. The answer is we dont know exactly. We are bringing out more food. Some of our distributions are four and five and six times as big as they were a month ago. And yet at the end at that time, we still had people waiting to be served. Where are you in terms of supplies . Wellstocked are your shelves question might while, we are the fortunate time in terms of our supply. When this occurred, we had a good inventory level so we are probably going to be good for the next two or three weeks. And then we are going to see our inventory levels drop and thats when we have got to have worked in advance to make sure that we have got donations lined up, that we are accessing federal commodities and if we need to, were going to be purchasing food. And the families were coming in, are theres a lot of families that have never before turn to a food bank and now all of a sudden because we have this outbreak and we have to stay a homeowners and people are losing their jobs, addressing families that have never turned the food base before now coming in looking for help . Yes, thats exactly right, alex. I was volunteering in a petri with my family on saturday and it was a drivethrough pantry. Folks were opening up their trunks and we were putting the food in their transferred you could see that these were folks a few days ago were using the poles, where using the cleaning equipment that was in their trucks. One fellow was a crossing guard. You can see his signs of probably was unemployed because the schools are closed. So yes, these are folks we do not normally see. Theres these are folks that again were working just a few days ago. Now they are wanting how they are going to keep themselves and their families. You brought up the issue of the schools being closed, now we just have the official announcement from state leaders today that the schools are going to be closed for the rest of the academic year. I know traditionally a lot of your meals are distributed through the school. How do you work around the closures of all the campuses here for the foreseeable future question mark yes. 44 of our 275 pantries were located in schools. So we lost them immediately two weeks ago. Weve been able to come back and partner with the School District to distribute groceries at the same time that they are distributing the school meals for kids to take away print we are still short ribbon putting up papa pantries that are three and four and five times bigger than our normal pantries trying to catch people who were displaced by the school closure. Were going to continue to grow those. We have got 11 open so far and we are going to continue to grow them in the coming weeks. And paul are you getting enough volunteers coming down to the pantry and being able to help out with some of those pop up delivery sites . I mean obviously there is a stayathome order so people are being urged to stay home but are you still getting volunteers coming down to help out . Go we are still getting volunteers. Some days we come up a little bit short. Know people change their mind or decide its not a good idea but we are practicing social distancing, providing gloves, Hand Sanitizer all that sort of thing so that people feel comfortable. We asked the city for activation of the National Guard over a week ago and we are still waiting to hear from them. It is our hope that they will make a decision and we will have a consistent supply of skilled volunteers, people that can drive trust, have language capacity what would be the role of those National Guard members specifically paul question mike is a going to be to stock the shelves, the kind of move the canned goods on the other food items and get them to those delivery points question mark but can do all those things. Plus many of them have class see licenses and drive trucks per they can operate Warehouse Equipment so they are invaluable. And paula finally here, you know times are tight for a lot of folks who are watching this right now. How far would even a small modest donation go for you guys right now . Yes but we are really efficient with peoples money. For every dollar that is donated we are able to supply food for two meals. So small donations go a long way. Obviously, larger donations go even further. All right, we really appreciate you coming on. Paul ash, executive director of the San Francisco marin food bank.
