She says that the cruise line has reached out to passengers and told them to be aware of any symptoms. She lives in sausalito, 86 years old. She says she has a little sore throat but no fever. She wants people to know shes okay but is planning to stay inside until she can get in touch with the doctor just in case. As for where this ship is right now, weve been tracking it all morning. I want to show you a map. What we are seeing right now is it is still way offshore, but creeping up into the area making its way to san francisco. There are 2500 people on board. At this time, it is not allowed to talk. The cdc wants to test to those who are showing symptoms of covid19 coronavirus. The governor said 21 people on board this ship are sick. Officials actually plan to fly testing kits out to the ship. That ship we requested to be delayed. The arrival to be delayed. The governor said a man who died of coronavirus was a passenger on the same vessel from february 11th through the 21st. The 71yearold man tested positive tuesday in plaster county. He was in isolation. Officials say that man was likely exposed on the ship. In Sonoma County there is also a confirmed case linked to the same trip. It is unclear if everyone on board will be quarantined or when it will be allowed to dock. The governor says they should get test results back soon. She is getting support from another former Oakland Police chief, howard jordan. He will join her later this morning at a Media Conference as well as the oakland city councilman. We understand that he will head to washington dc this weekend and plans to call for the department of justice to look into the federal Oversight Program that the Police Department has been under for 17 years and he hopes that it will soon and. Kirkpatrick and jordan expressing concerns with the federal Oversight Program and specifically the monitor themselves. They say have new allegations that they plan to release. They are telling me that they have issues with the actual process. Two weeks ago when kirkpatrick was fired, she sat down with me and told me that they were close to meeting all of the reforms and being in compliance but then the federal monitor added new reforms, so they, basically, moved back the goalpost. I am truly deeply concerned that we have been under 17 years of federal oversight, something is wrong. Thats a milliondollar contract. Where is compliance . The federal oversight monitor has repeatedly declined to comment saying he cannot speak on the case. The lawyers who filed the original suit agree, yes, the Oversight Program is too long, but they say the alternative a possible legal settlements from police abuse cases would be far more costly than an annual milliondollar contract. Kirkpatrick was fired without cause by the Police Commission. That was approved by the oakland mayor. It was a decision that shaft said was hard to make, but she said trust had been broken between the Police Commission and the police chief. So this morning kirkpatrick will be talking, as we mentioned, with howard jordan, another former police chief, and we plan to get an update on her plans to possibly file a lawsuit against the city for her termination. Taking over as District Attorney in january, he is facing a backlash for dropping charges against the 20yearold Duane Grayson who recorded video of the attack on a 68yearold asian man who was robbed of his recycling he been collecting. After talking with the victim, he decided to pursue Restorative Justice instead of criminal charges charges. We reach out to the victim. We asked what he wanted. We asked what his views on the case were and he was very clear. He said, this is a young man, and i want a letter of apology and i want healing for the community. He is pursuing criminal charges against the man we see in the video taunting and taking swipes at the elderly man and stealing his recycling. He says that man is in jail. The Oakland School board has approved 20 million in budget cuts, and that will likely mean layoffs next fall, but by law the notices have to go out this month. How as many as 100 jobs are on the line. Reporter parents, staff, and activists streamed into the Oakland School board meeting. They demand that School Police be disbanded to save the district more than 2 million annually. It is clear to me that you guys are all for the school to prison pipeline. Our kids are still being treated as criminals. A year ago Oakland Schools weathered a weeklong teachers strike, gave teachers raises, then cut and consolidated in other areas. Now new cuts are proposed and the district says it has looked under every rock for savings. The involvement is not an option. The superintendent called the budget reductions agonizing. At almost 21 million, painful and necessary. Even though we did do our best to try to keep as far away from students as possible, there will still be impacts to schools. Oakland is making a big step forward by streamlining, but those at headquarters facing possible layoffs see it differently. Our lives matter. Be fair. Librarians came to fight for the job of their boss, library manager. Who would hire librarians . Who would be able to manage the Library Catalog and work with vendors . And cutting assistant principal is another proposal. Is there any cuts that are acceptable . Not to me. The only cut that is acceptable is the budget for the police. A spokesperson for School Police tried to talk. A review of the data will show that we do not what was heckled into silence. The board is being pressured to replace police with less expensive security guards on campuses where needed. Repurpose those funds to things that are actually going to benefit children.
