It happened just before 10 00 this morning on grand avenue near ellwood avenue. The owner of a coin shop chased and shot at the thieves who had just rubbed his store. Allison rodriguez tells us, that a man inside his home was hit. By a stray bullet. Reporter we are told that person was taken to the hospital and is now listed in stable condition. It all started at this going exchange here behind me. And the shots were fired just a block away. One neighbor told me she normally walk through this area, but decided to go a different route this morning. That does make me kind of feel like, question maybe it is and as safe as i thought. And fortunately, she wasnt around when all of this happened. Oakland police say around 10 00 this morning i received a call about an Armed Robbery at the Northern California corn exchange. They say the owner told them two men armed with guns walked in and demanded collectibles and other items. When they get the merchandise, they ran out of the door and down the street. The owner wasnt ready to let them get away. He said the owner chased after these two men down ellwood. When they were about a block away from the store, the two sides exchanged gunfire. Thats when i stray bullet went through a home, striking the person inside. This is dangerous. We have a lot of businesses, we have children, we have a lot of pedestrian vehicle traffic, bicycle traffic, this is a very busy area. We are talking about gunshots being exchanged, thats a concern for all of us. And police say those two men dropped what they had taken and got away. Authorities were able to recover the stolen items, but there still looking for the suspect. That business remains closed tonight, and police say they are looking through Surveillance Video through this area as they continue their investigation. There are asking for your help. And Police Detained a person after the discovery of a suspicious bag found in the main library on the campus of San Francisco state university. Scott fox was a large number of Police Officers and patrol cars investigated the scene. Later police said the contents of that bag pose a threat. Officers listed in earlier shelter in place order and gave the all clear. And police and Community Members in union city are looking for answers after two young boys were shot and killed while sitting in a van in the parking lot of a school. At this point, there is no known motive, and no arrest. Henry lee talked to a neighborhood Security Camera captured what happened. Reporter muzzle flashes lighting up the night. Showing the moment two boys ages 11 and 14 were gunned down in a parking lot of a Union City Elementary school. I heard like four or five bangs. It was super loud, you could hear it echo in the sky. Reporter this womans Security Camera captured what hasee two pairs of headlight. The vehicle on the right, a minivan with the victims inside. Then, at le opened fire. The minivan takes off the crashes into a tree of the elem school. A memorial now sits outside the school honoring the victims. Identified only as kevin, who was 11. And sean who was 14. And it was really shocking because knowing they were just that young, and they werent even most likely not even in high school. Not even an an adult yet. We are heartbroken, and outraged that the lives of an 11 and 14yearold were taken away from their friends and their families. And we have no idea if they were targeted. Or if they were there to meet somebody. Reporter Union City Police say a motive is unclear. Investigators are trying to build a timeline leading up to the shooting. We dont know how long these two juveniles were together. What they have been doing throughout the day. And what led them to that actual parking lot and why they were there. I just want to know like what was the motive of the suspect for shooting them and just leaving them. And police say they are aware some people might be reluctant to come forward in an investigation but they need as much help as they can get to help solve this case. In union city, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. And a 29yearold man arrested last week in connection with the orinda mass shooting investigation appeared in court today. The man pleaded not guilty to being a felon, in possession of a firearm. And a felon in possession of ammunition. Investigators have not said exactly how he is related to the shooting that left five people dead. Another man was also arrested last week on charges to the shooting. Their arrests came days after five other men were taken into custody on suspicion murder. Four of those men were later released. The District Attorneys Office that prosecutors didnt think they had enough evidence to file charges. At 6 00, a man on a crime spree in l. A. Has been shot and killed by police. It all started about 11 30 this morning in hollywood. Police say the man was armed with a machete when he armed an auto parts store. After the robbery, police say he carjacked someone at a restaurant. He didnt get far before people, police were called. The suspect tried to escape by crashing into two patrol cars. Then got out of the car, and reportedly charged at officers with the machete. Police say they told the suspect to drop the weapon, they also used less lethal options. Still, police say the suspect did not comply. And thats when an officer shot and killed the man. One officer suffered minor wounds. The fire near cincinnati avenue and foothill boulevard forced some evacuations south of Thunder Valley casino resort. The fire started just about 23 acres but it quickly spread in the windy conditions. The fire burned about 350 acres in all before firefighters contained it. Some buildings and cars were damaged by the flames. No injuries reported. Gavin newsom is trying to help victims of the kincaid fire recover more quickly. Today he issued an executive order to make it easier for fire survivors to get into new houses. The order includes a suspension of planning and zoning requirements. For places where people have lived in mobile homes, manufactured home, and rvs. It also allows survivors to get copies of the birth certificate, and drivers licenses for free. The order also applies to victims of wildfires in four counties in Southern California last month. Some, physically carried out as tents were broken down. There are a bunch of empty homes, and a bunch of homeless people. I think that people should have homes. There just been an increase in evictions. An increase in homeless encampments around for the last two years. There still havent been any type of solution to this homelessness problem. Reporter the protest started sunday morning, called the housing justice village. Many are either homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. Some feel Oakland CommunityCabin Program isnt working. Walker stated in a cabin for two months, but says he left because his roommate was using meth and heroin. I feel safer outside the leased outside i can watch my back. Open up public land and let people, communities build structures. Tiny homes. I believe in tiny homes. Because you got your own bed. In a statement, open bear says housing and homelessness are the most urgent crises facing our community, region, and stated our share priority is to create more safe shelter space for our own sheltered resident.
