New this morning after midnight, Oakland Police cleared out a protest by homeless activists outside city hall. Ktvu Cristina Rendon live in where the protesters are demanding the city do more to solve the homeless crisis. Cristina. Reporter yes, good morning to you. The tents a gone and protesters are gone and here at the plaza. But the reality is there are Homeless People here a handful who sleep on the steps of the plaza every single night. And some of them were a part of yesterdays protest. We will show you video from last night where in just after midnight to move the people out. All of these protesters were upset over the way the city handled the homeless crisis. Police moved in saying the group violated the curfew. Some people had to be physically carried out. And city workers broke down tents and tossed them into the back of a truck. And roughly a dozen people were seen detained with their hands in zip ties. Protesting because they are a bunch of empty homes and Homeless People and we think people should have homes. Reporter protesters set up tends tents in the plaza on sunday causing it the housing justit village they are either homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. And they are upset millions have been spent but feel its been used i guess i should say improperly. They criticize the city for saying they spent those that money on tuff sheds and the program and over the past two years, homeless crisis has gotten worse and people have used City Services are now back out on the streets. Today South San Francisco and san bruno could both pass stopgap measures to prevent no cause evictions and rent hikes before new statewide rental rules begin in january. Both City Councils will debate moratoriums in order to protect tenants. Legal aid Services Says theres been a rise in evictions in San Mateo County since the tenant protection act was passed october 8th. The moratorium would ban no cause eviction and rent gouging before the law takes effect. There will be Mental Health cannel counselor at university of San Francisco this morning. Thats after the university became aware arstudent making threats and yelling obscenities on campus. We have reports from parents who say that student had threatened the school shooting. Parents also say usf officials did not send out any official notice about the threat. Yesterday, dozens of mourners gathered on the campus of the Elementary School where the two boys ages 11 and 14, were shot and killed early saturday morning. Homicide investigators say they were sitting in a van in the School Parking lot when they were shot several hooting stunn children of that age in such terrible situation. I have grandsons who are the same age 11 and 14. And the thought of losing one of them is just so extremely painful. You know, my heart breaks for the mother. For the parents, for the sisters and the whole family. Police say they dont know if it was random or if the victims were targeted.
