Prosecapril markers falsely reported her service firearm, radio and several luxury items were stolen from her home and then filed a 67,000 insurance claim. They said she planned the scheme with her boyfriend, and exconvict she met in jail. A palo alto man sued the Police Department for violating his civil rights and settled more than half 1 million. The city Council Agreed to pay Gustavo Alvarez more than 572,000. The settlement requires a written apology from the supervising officer who slammed alvarez into the car outside of his home. Alvarez was arrested for driving without a suspended license. Its a sense of safety and security in his home that was completely robbed by these officers who violated a whole slew of civil rights of palo alto and thats not something in the amount of money can cure or make better. The supervising officer Sergeant Wayne benitez was later seen on security video making fun of alvarez, who is gay. As part of the settlement, all officers will be required to go through two hours of lgbt q sensitivity training. The Albany County Sheriffs Department is accused of forced labor. The lawsuit accuses the National Food Service Company aramark of profiting off of the labor. The jail has a contract with aramark that allows inmates to volunteer to prepare food in exchange for a better meal. Inmates say when they are sick or dont want to work, deputies threaten them with extra jail time. A sheriffs spokesperson says deputies do not force labor and insist that inmates can take time off or quit if they want to. About 12,000 lost power in wake county and there were more outages in the sierra foothills. In all about 15,000 customers had electricity shut off in an effort to prevent wildfires.
