We begin with developing news and East San Jose were police are searching for a driver behind a deadly hitand run. The collision happened shortly after 10 00 last night at the intersection of alan rock and jackson avenue. The driver of a 1999 honda hid a tesla head on and then veered into another lane and hit a dodge durango. The driver of the honda ran off but left two passengers in the car. One witness tells us he got to the victims first before paramedics arrived. I saw the accident. S head. M to relax. He [ inaudible ] one of the passengers died at the hospital. Another is being treated for lifethreatening injuries. The people inside the other cars are expected to be okay. Anyone with information on this crash is urged to call San Jose Police. Also developing. Cleanup efforts are underway after a car ran off the road and ended up in a front yard in berkeley early this morning. There is the scene on ashby avenue not far from sacramento street. Police say the driver was not hurt and admitted to falling asleep after working long hours. Today, thousands of pg e customers in the north bay are expected to have their power shut off. The latest Public Safety power shut off is expected because we expect strong, dangerous wind throughout today. Cristina rendon is in Sonoma County which will have the most customers affected. Reporter g. Pg e decided to scale back its power shut off for parts of the bay area but the north bay is one of those areas where they could see outages starting in about an hour. Sonoma county where we are could see their power go out in about an hour and also the second phase would likely start around 4 pm or 5 pm when the wind starts to pick up again. We are talking about not just sonoma but also napa and Solano County could be affected between the 8 am hour. Wind is expected to pick up around 10 00 and also at 6 pm. Portions of Sonoma County mailers power around 4 00 or 5 00 and extra fire crews are working in the north bay due to the increased fire danger. Emergency Operations Centers are also activated. It is becoming a machine that we are able to quickly and efficiently put into motion. Its not getting easier for the community. We fully recognize that. Reporter pg e says outages no longer plant, are no longer planned for alameda, contra costa, marin, santa clara, santa cruz and San Mateo County but as for sonoma, napa and solano, pg e said they hope to give the all clear tomorrow wants the outages do go out. They hope to have crews inspecting the lines before turning the power back on sometime before thursday by end of day. That is some good news. They want to mention that Community Resource centers will be open. People can charge their phones or their devices and maybe get a heater or clothing, rhs a blanket and also some ice if they need it. This power outage is expected to affect roughly 150,000 customers in the north bay in Northern California areas. Something to keep in mind. Pg e said they will make improvements in the coming months so that next year the power shut off is not there go to option. Sonoma county, cristina rendon, ktvu fox 2 news. Bart is increasing its Police Presence in stations following a deadly stabbing on a train in hayward. Sources tell us it ktvu news the stabbing victim intervene in a theft involving two other passengers. 39yearold Jermaine Brehm was arrested on suspicion of murder and carjacking. According to police brehm ran from the station and try to steal a car from a dealership. He looked like a normal homeless guy so i thought it was just a normal homeless person here and at that point stuff started happening. He swung at me. I swung at him again. And at that time i just got mad. We are told that brehm got into a fight with someone at the car dealership as well. Police later arrested him at a nearby bus stop. The part general manager issued a statement that said in part, we are heartbroken that a person has lost their life due to violence on our trains. San jose police are looking for the driver responsible for causing a three car crash that killed one man and injured several others. The hitandrun happened on alum rock avenue at jackson avenue in san jose. That is where we check in with Sara Zendehnam with the details. A reporter good morning. Different scene here just a couple of hours ago. Car cash. The San Jose Police department confirmed one of the patients died and another is suffering from lifethreatening injuries. The others had a range of injuries from minor to serious. This happened just after 10 00 last night. The driver of a honda was going eastbound on alum rock avenue when he hit a tesla. Police say the driver of the honda then drove through the center bus lane into the center lane when he hit a dodge durango. The driver of the honda described as a 40yearold man with a thin build wearing a red jersey left the car and ran. He is not been found. Two men in the honda were extricated and taken to a hospital. Thats where one died and the other is seriously hurt. The driver of the tesla and the dodge were not injured. This marks the 46th fatal crash in the city and 48th victim in 2019. Were her from a witness earlier who said he heard a very loud sound when he was walking his dog and ran over to see the cars piled up. He said he tried to help the people who were hurt. The San Jose Police department has not yet found who the driver of the honda was in they say if you have any information on anything that happened last night to give them a call. Sara zendehnam, ktvu fox 2 news. Because of changes in the weather, pg e now says we wont be seeing the widespread power safety shutoffs that were first planned. The new plan for shutoffs will now affect 150,000 pg e customers and 18 counties around the state. That includes almost 43,000 customers in napa, solano and lake counties along with part of Sonoma County. Shutoffs are due to begin at 7 am. But pg e says later this afternoon Sonoma County will have a second phase of power safety shutoffs beginning at 4 pm. Emergency Officials Say preparing for all of this gets easier but it does take a toll. It is becoming a machine that we are able to quickly and efficiently put into motion. Its not getting easier for the community. We fully recognize this. Not just physical fatigue but emotional. The community has been through quite a bit this time. Its a challenge for us because how do you maintain vigilance for so long . As of right now power safety shutoffs are scheduled and because of the extreme fire danger right now, they are necessary. The state Public Utilities commission is holding a hearing today related to last months power outages. Commissioners have called executives from Communications Companies to explain their actions during the october shutoffs. That includes cable and cell phone ordinated with emergency officials and how service can be improved in the future. Senator steve glazer of orinda plans to introduce a bill that could improve communication during a power shut off. He will propose requiring cell phone towers be equipped with backup batteries and also wants to have Utility Companies provide battery packs to all customers who need electricity for lifesaving medical devices. The family attorney said the man was shot in the back of the head and had Bullet Wounds on the backs of his arms. The Solano County District Attorney continues to investigate the shooting. A group of people in San Franciscos Richmond District now taking action toward recalling their supervisor. The petition to start a recall of sandra lee fewer comes weeks after she led a controversial chant against a Police Officers Association Using profane language. This happened during an Election Night party for jesse putin. The group of 31 people filed the petition and they will need to collect signatures from 20 of the registered voters in the district for the Election Department to issue a recall election. If youre driving across the san mateo dunbarton bridges, those commutes are filling up oakland for the coliseum this traffic will go to oak downtown oakland but if youre trying to get into San Francisco remember Dreamforce Convention going on today and theres a lot of people in town for that convention. San francisco was normally crowded so think about that and add thousands of people going down to the Moscone Center for the salesforce conference. Its going to be tough.
