Burning buildings and we are working to confirm whether the buildings are outbuildings or sheds or homes. Weve obtained coverage of this fire with meteorologist Steve Paulson talking about the powerful wind driving the fire. First, we bring in Cristina Rendon. Talk to us about the conditions. I can see its windy. Reporter very windy and the winds have not let up whatsoever. Its gotten worse since weve been in geyserville at the corner of Alexander Valley road and pine flat road. This area has been closed off to the public but cal fire crews are deep in the trenches trying to get a handle on this fire burning outofcontrol. You can see the flames along the ridge line and this area is where red winery road is and to the left is an area where 128 is in the casino wed mentioned earlier, red rock casino is in the area in danger, as we speak. In terms of the structures, along the hillside we saw at least one of those structures burning but we cant tell you if it is a house or winery or some type of shed but it went up in flames and burned quick. 10,000 acres and growing and likely will grow much more than that in the coming hours, especially with daylight, now. The wind has not let up and the fire started about 9 30 last night and called the kincade fire. It started deep behind the mountains near geyserville in that area and spread fast with the wind driving it and pushing it along the outer rural areas in geyserville and is now completely consumed the area where we are. All of these homes next to that store are Still Standing but it is in the path of being threatened because the wind keeps shifting and changing with every minute that passes. Its unpredictable to tell where the fire will go. Cal fire said theres a little bit of sunlight or debris coming in and once it becomes full visibility with the sunshine, they can get the choppers up in the air to get the air attack. Right now, more than 300 firefighters on the ground. Not just cal fire, but all the surrounding communities that are trying to get a handle on this kincade fire and weve seen people already driving away and their dogs are in the back seat and boxes, as well, trying to get out of the area under mandatory evacuation. If you have not left, they are saying over and over, leave now and find a safe place to be where you are not in the path of this fire. Its moving toward 128. Be safe and try not to take too many chances. People want to stay behind and stay with their homes because they have an emotional attachment. We get that but cal fire said its so dangerous and you can see how strong the winds are. No telling where this fire will go. We are a couple of miles from 101 if you are familiar between healdsburg and geyserville. We came off this area where its still safe but none of those structures are threatened. The fire is moving toward the valley floor and everything in its path, the Alexander Valley, theres a lot of wineries and thankfully no structures but it could be a lot of vineyards and grapes to burn in this fire and we will keep you posted with Additional Information from cal fire but that is where we are and you can see that fire going strong with no end in sight. Disclude to Steve Paulson to talk about the wind and the fire. 58 milesanhour, 2500 feet in the healdsburg hills. Not as bad in the valley floor with gusting xt plus and we are not done yet. If the wind decreases throughout midmorning and early afternoon, it will be really warm. 80s to start and the temperatures are dropping a tiny bit. Upper 80s and 90s today and mid90s possible with a red flag warning with low humidity and the highest day of the week will be today. Very dry with humidity really down there. Bodega bay, 76 and healdsburg 75 and napa 75. Very warm temps in napa county with the air direction off shore with a higher pressure with copper ridge ext 2 degrees with east winds at 27 and ridge ranch, e 73 at 31 milesperhour and healdsburg hills, gusting to 58 and 75 degrees. Mount selena west, gusting over 60 and 70 humidity. Really strong gusts. Pine flat road, six milesper hour out of the north and 20 and 25 in parts of napa county and funneled in around geyserville and through the petaluma gap and thats why you are seeing bodega bay at 76. Humidity in the teens and its gone up a tiny bit compared to a couple of hours ago. Humidity goes up after today and into friday, much more favorable with the temps coming down but its really warm in napa county, 70 humidity and 75 degrees with still having power. 7 06 and sal, what you have . We had a bike accident on the Golden Gate Bridge at one of the bike lanes on the sidewalk and thats why they had to get medics in but they cleared that and the lanes that were affected because the medics had to stop in the lanes to help the two and the crash has been cleared and its a little bit busier than normal on the Golden Gate Bridge. Looking at some of the other commutes, the bay bridge is backed up with normal delays and so is 880 in oakland and the commutes are getting busy all over the place. 880 and pleasanton, coming to this area and the south bay commute, i would avoid 85 in saratoga if you can do that. 17 on 101 an 85 are slow. 7 07 and lets go back to the desk. Early this morning, pg e shut off power in San Mateo County as part of the Public Safety power shut off and so far 195 customers have lost power. If high wind continues, pg e said the number could go higher and in napa county, more than 6000 homes and businesses have no power and Sonoma County is the most affected with 27,000 customers without power right now. In santa rosa, Power Outages seem to be the new reality and Officials Say they are working with pg e to keep people safe including generators with Traffic Signals at the busy intersections. Operations centers have been open since tuesday and workers are coordinating the countywide response and asking residents to help each other. We are prepared to send any notifications. Sonoma county does this really well, coming together. Workers at the county Operations Center are happy to answer questions about the power shut off and say if you need nonemergency help, call 211, not 911. Its 7 08 and about one hour from now, Sonoma County will bring three Resource Centers open. They are at the santa rosa Memorial Veterans building on maple avenue and the cloverdale citrus fair and the Hannah Boys Center on auto drive in sonoma. The power shut off has led to several closures with all the schools in the Alexander Valley district on closure because of the power shut off but they are also in the area of the kincade fire and the Santa Rosa School district canceled class at Hidden Valley elementary, Maria Carillo high school, Santa Rosa Accelerated Charter School and others. Five Elementary Schools are closed in marin county. School shutdowns are hard on families already stressed by Power Outages and the threat of wildfires and some parents understand why the closures are necessary and others say its hard to figure out how to keep kids busy and distracted when parents dont have a lot of information. At first i understood but it seems a little extreme where the power will be shut off and the emails that you get are that we may or may not turn off your power and you will know kind of when it happens. Some people have been upset but i remember how scary it was. I see it that i would rather take the precaution. Officials at the School Districts cant say if there will be classes tomorrow and you have to wait to see if pg e has restored power before they can make any announcements. Go to our website at ktvu. Com any time and we will have the latest information on the power shutoffs. Laws are passing to legalize marijuana but some big institutions are caught in the middle. Coming up, the growing battle about medical marijuana and college campuses. Its Opening Night for the Golden State Warriors at their new home and the new arena in San Francisco will be having us live at chase center with what to expect. We all have things we love and long for. A place, a feeling, a moment. But only kerrygold can take you there. To irelands lush, green pastures. And were airbnb hosts. Welcome back to mornings on 2 in the time is just about 7 14 and who is the latest on the breaking news in eastern Sonoma County with no word of injuries but the number of evacuations is growing from the 10,000acre kincade fire this morning. The roads east of 128, two geyserville, are shut down and the entire community of geyserville is under a mandatory evacuation. This fire erupted during the night, exploding to 10,000 acres and flames actually jumped highway 128 and are headed toward the river rock casino. Ktvu has allie rasmus with a live report from the Evacuation Center coming up at 7 30. At 7 14, we have the red cross on the phone with us right now and i can imagine you and the red cross are very busy. What are you dealing with and what resources can you offer . Good morning. The red cross workers opened up two Evacuation Centers in the middle of the night. People who were forced from their homes due to the massive fire were able to go in for massive areas of food, and shelter and information. Weve had 18 residents that spent the night and we want to encourage people that are affected by the Evacuation Orders to get to safety and thats with these Evacuation Centers are for. The red cross has been mobilizing supplies, cots, volunteers and are at the ready to serve the community. Do you have the supplies you need to accommodate . Are you still asking for donations . Well, we are able to respond to the disaster because people have donated in the past and because people had predonated to the disaster we have surprised supplies on hand. What is the mindset for those that have come to the center . How have they been and how do they seem . You know, when you are awoken in the middle of the night by an Evacuation Order, it is always a sense of shock and concern and what will happen. Will their home be okay . Did they grab everything they wanted . We encourage people in the evacuation zones to heed those orders and take a moment to grab what you need and important papers and get to safety. Be prepared so that if it becomes mandatory, you are able to leave with peace of mind. Before you go, tell us the locations where the centers are that the red cross is operating. We have one location at the Windsor High School and the other is at the Healdsburg Community center. All right. I know you are busy and thank you for taking time to talk with us. Cynthia shaw of the red cross with us on mornings on 2. Thank you. Thank you. As we talk about the kincade fire, i know its in the area of 128 and Sonoma County and sal, take it away. I will tell you that 128 has closures but 101 does not. Local closures will be in place, obviously. If you are a commuter, take 101 because theres no closures but we will update you. In the heart of the bay area commute, most people are getting to the bay area bridge and there obviously is no effect on that traffic. Its normal driving into San Francisco, a 20 minute delay with no major issues on 880 with clear whether and it may be windy but not windy enough to affect cars on the bridges. San mateo and dumbarton is slow and so is 880 and 680 south on the altamont pass. In the south bay, 85 is recovering from earlier problems getting into the valley and 280 and 101 are taking up the slack and its getting a little bit slow on the trip to sunnyvale and cupertino. Lets bring in steve for the weather. Some of the smoke and ash is going over 101. Absolutely. If you are in the area, you know the drill and its happened before, unfortunately. Its the same as it has been for the last wildfires. We will get to it. Warm and windy with 58 mile perhour gusts thing and that was up to about 65 or 70. Kincade fire, 75 to 80 degrees. Its going to be very warm, very hot and the only good news is the wind will decrease through the day with humidity staying very low for most of the day and those costs can be erratic, at times. At the valley floor, im seeing 25 milesperhour and 1500 feet through 2400 feet, its 3564 milesperhour. Extremely dry and warm. The wind is 72 and other locations, 49 with mill valley 70, some very warm temps and winddriven with the easterly breeze and thats what almost everyone has with the strongest gust to the north and not as bad to the south with from what ive seen, getting the east wind from 35 45 milesperhour in some of these observations. 11 humidity with a north wind dominating most of the locations and there is missing information but even in napa county, its not that bad. Mount salina west, 37 and 65 milesperhour and pine flat road, pretty close, 35 miles perhour. Everything is funneled in by the sea breeze and why is bodega bay so warm . Look at the airflow with strong gusting in the mountains. The humidity in santa rosa is going up but it was 11 at 4 00 this morning and now, 26 and we will take it. Teens in concord and fairfield, 15 and 14 . Very warm, 80s and 90s in santa rosa with 95 degrees. Oakland and san jose at 90. The record gusting was with 90 degrees and it might be close. 7 20 and breaking news with the kincade fire burning out of control in Sonoma County near geyserville at 10,000 acres plus right now. The chase center has hosted 20 events since it opened labor day week but this is the first game for the warriors in the regular season and the first in San Francisco since 1971. We have craig malik coat with a preview. Reporter this place has been rocking, very busy with elton john here, eric clapton, the who and Dave Matthews and you name it. The warriors finally get to play again. This one counts and taking on the clippers at 7 30 and looking at the arena, nice and quiet now but beautiful, 1. 4 billion worth of glory out there. A big sea of blue tshirts, 18,000 plus draped on every seed. Going to the scoreboard, that baby is the biggest in the nba. Maybe, the planet, 82 feet long and outrageous. You will not find that at best buy, i can assure you. Lots of new faces on the team and only five returnees including steph curry and Draymond Green and they will battle Kawhi Leonards clippers. A big win over the lakers in their opener on tuesday night. A new look with a new arena and everyone is pumped up about tonights big opener. Weve been lucky to have a month to get to know the building and to stage 20 events to get feedback from fans and get everything working in a perfect way before we welcome our first regular season crowd for the warriors. That has been a real benefit. Reporter the tickets, as you imagine, crazy expensive. Two courtside seats fetching 35,000 apiece and 70,000 to sit next to the warriors. Ticketmaster with nosebleed tickets, only 137 bucks, more my speed. Everyone gets a tshirt that said dubs over everything and they are beautiful and blue and an extra large. What you expect tonight . The fire broke out last night on kincade road near a thermal field with winds clock i16 milesanhour and Steve Paulson said the wind may have beestronger. We have Live Team Coverage at the Weather Center and did you say the fire has grown, steve . 15 square miles is what im seeing with some of the vineyards reporting this on twitter. We will see if that is correct or not. Lets go to allie rasmus at the Evacuation Center. Reporter the Evacuation Center is at the Healdsburg Community center and the red cross is here and weve seen people showing up. More are showing up, now that the entire town of geyserville is under mandatory Evacuation Orders and now that the sunshine is here, we can see the cloud of smoke looming over the town of healdsburg. Healdsburg is not impacted by Evacuation Orders but the town of geyserville is. If you live there, you should have left already. It went into effect around 6 30 after homes along red winery road and 128 and geiser road and river road and the red rock casino were already evacuated during the overnight hours. Evacuation orders for pine trap road went into effect at 4 00 with the kincade fire burning. More people are coming to the shelter at the Healdsburg Community center and weve talked to some of them that and they came in with pants and just fled the town of geyserville. Very smoky and you can see the glowing of the fire in the mountains with a lot of chp sheriffs driving around, going doortodoor to make sure everybody is out of the house. Have never seen this before, never. All over the neighborhood. We have video from 4 00 this morning near pine flats road taken by somebody who evacuated during the Early Morning hours because of the kincade fire coming over the hill and he was about one mile away at that point but i want to bring in healdsburg mayor, david haig lee. Reporter in the northern part of healdsburg, they are told to get their stuff ready . Even in healdsburg, be prepared. As of right now, we are fine and i tell people to follow the city of Healdsburg Facebook page and on social media and go to the website. It will have the most an Evacuation Order ready information. Reporter we are on Alexander Valley road and moved closer to the flames use our earlier. We covered this fire a couple of hours earlier and we are right next to a vineyard. There is a structure on fire in the distance and a plume of smoke all around us. We give you this 360degree look where we are and you can see the mountain lions and cal fire is fighting a fire above where we are along that ridge line. Its really thick and dark and you nt see the flames but it is glowing and burning with strong flames moving with these wi. Right now, we are in a strange pocket where its kind of still but earlier, we had very strong wind whipping this fire. One minute it will be calm and then it will pick up and push those flames and keep spreading. We are in the area right near red winery road and its under mandatory evacuation and we understand at least two structures have burned in this area. A few minutes ago, we got video from this area and im not sure if we have that video but i can tell you what looked like it was burning right along the side of the road. It is going pretty strong. Be aware that if you are in this area, this fire is very unpredictable with 10,000 acres and growing. It looks like it will do some damage to some wineries and we can confirm which wineries are impacted. I can tell you where we were shooting the video, we were near robert young estate winery, an area where we were holed up for a few minutes and it was so thick with smoke and ash that we had to move and come back down Alexander Valley road and this is where we are now. We are watching cal fire do their work. More than 300 firefighters are helping and mutually from surrounding communities. Its moving quick and fast and if you havent gotten out from dyersville already, you should and here is another live look. I hope you can see these flames because they are very big and strong and people are trying to evacuate, as we speak, coming down Alexander Valley road. They are right in the path of it. Its very smoky but have you seen vineyards burning . Reporter we have not seen any vineyards on fire, as of yet. We were going to the path of many, many vineyards and there was thick ash and smoke so its possible they were on fire but we could not see them. On Alexander Valley road curving into red winery road, these vineyards are okay and not on fire. Behind us as you go toward 128 near river rock casino, it appears the fire has reached the valley floor and its possible there is damage down there. Cristina rendon, thank you. Really dry and healdsburg, 26 and thats what they are dealing with with pine flat road close to the fire vicinity and it doesnt seem to be as strong in caldecott but thats not bad. Everything is being funneled around the petaluma gap in northern marin county, and thats why its so warm. Inverness and point reyes, bodega bay, all in the 70s. Santa rosa has humidity at 90 in hayward and 80s and 90s today with record highs for many and the forecast high is 88. Nothing positive except a decrease in the wind and the humidity should go up a little bit with temperatures going down and we peaked out today and it looks like a break for two or three days and after that, another wind event on sunday and it wont be as hot but might be windier with 80s and 90s today across the board. It is one of those patterns. Cooler saturday with a wind event on sunday. Three registered sex offenders are suing a sheriff and coming up, what the sheriff did that some sa olated their rights. Breaking news with a raging wildfire on the move and Sonoma County with 10,000 acres plus and structure is burning with mandatory evacuations under way and geyserville. We are live on the scene with the latest. Thousands of pg e customers in the bay area have no electricity because of a planned power shut off and we breakdown araffected in the warning from pg e. The Golden State Warriors take on Kawhi Leonard and the clippers for the home opener. We are live with what to expect for the warriors first regularseason game in San Francisco in nearly 50 years. From ktvu fox2 news, this is mornings on 2. Good morning and welcome back to mornings on 2 on thursday, october 24. Im frank maibach. Im Gasia Mikaelian anne street to breaking news was skyfox over a wildfire sweeping through the area east of geyserville in the far north bay. Thentire community geyserville has been told to evacuate, some 900 people and these are the first pictures from above and you can see it is daylight now and theres a lot of thick smoke rising from the 10,000 plus acres that have burned in this fire and the fire started overnight and then doubled in size. At one point, 5000 acres and now, more than 10,000. Its burning through the area more than 12. 5 square miles and we have crews on the ground. Theyve reported structures that seem to be burning. We have Live Team Coverage of the kincade fire. First, we go to Cristina Rendon near the front lines east of geyserville. You have a mask on. Can you describe the conditions . Reporter i had to put on the mask because it was too sick to breathe in this ash and smoke. I put it on for safety and there is a structure behind us that burned down. This used to be a house and you can see what is left behind. It appears that used to be a kitchen of some sort with a stove in the distance. Not sure what these metal peices are. There is also a car on fire. Cal fire is trying to get there, as we speak, to keep an eye on things. Its very close to a vineyard and some of the rows of grapes have already charged. They havent actually caught fire but you can see smoke and heat damage moving through with ash and smoke already. We will keep moving because we are not sure if this is the same property but this entire area has burned. We are coming up to an intersection where it is red winery road. This is an area where cal fire was working overnight and we mentioned that the robert young winery had fire around it and the structure was saved. The winery is, it has burned along the road. That was the crashing sound of street signs you just heard. We will pan over and this is the continuation of geiser road and other structures have burned and people are coming down that road that said at least 89 other structures have burned in that area. I apologize that im a little out of breath. We are trying to catch our breath in this smoke and its difficult to breathe. Everywhere we look, it is fire and smoke and its really, really sad to see this because this is an area where the Public Safety power shut off was initiated and pg e said they are aware and they know it started near this area but we are not sure of the cause of the fire. Cal fire is working very, very hard to get a handle on this. Its 10,000 acres and growing and right now, 0 contained. Cristina, let me give you a second to take a breath but since we have you, now that the sun is up and its been a firefight on the ground up to this point, have you heard the sound of any aircraft in the air or possibly seen aircraft in the air now attacking the fire from the top . Reporter unfortunately, no. All we are seeing is crews on the ground and we have a crew from amman to rio but we have not seen any choppers. Weve heard the sound of bulldozers and have seen fire trucks on the ground but we are still waiting to see choppers in the air. Its possible that the visibility is so poor that they can get up in this area. In the surrounding areas near 128 and red winery road and Alexander Valley road, we might be able to get in those areas soon and we will keep you posted. Thank you, cristina. We have a live picture of skyfox above the area are burning. We are joined by state senator mike mcguire, representing Sonoma County Sonoma County. You are on your way to geyserville. On your twitter feed you said cal fire had put in a request for mutual aid and what else can you tell us . Good morning. Sources from across the bay area are arriving shortly after the fire had broken t at an amazing rate of speed and approximately 10 00 or 10 30, we are looking at a 300400 acre fire and by 4 00 a. M. , almost 10,000 acres. Resources are arriving from all nine counties near Sonoma County and earlier this morning, cal fire requested a christian all additional personnel. For the air attack, cal fire had a spotter plane in the air this morning and there are two factors related to the air fight. Number one, the top of the ceiling and number two, visibility with morning light. Cal fire is staged and ready to go with wind conditions allowing the big air fight being one of the top priorities, obviously, in northern california. The challenge right now, we saw the fire start in a relatively remote region with embers in front of the main flames. The reason why geyserville had to be evacuated because spot fires started in a rushing river bed and firefighters are fighting these spot fires. One half mile or two thirds of a mile from downtown geyserville and out of an abdance of caution, Evacuation Orders were issued. Senator mcguire, what is your biggest concern for the people of the area . A big concern is that you have to listen to Evacuation Orders. This fire is moving fast and it is hot and wind whipped. Late last night, sustained wind at 40 milesanhour plus. If you are receiving an Evacuation Order, get out. Get out immediately. Individuals should be prepared with a gold bag and have their pets prepared. There is an Evacuation Center opened at the Healdsburg Community Center Located at 1567 healdsburg avenue and they are prepared for dozens more. Food is ready for evacuees and they have significant capacity and are in Constant Contact with the state office of Emergency Services and embedded in Sonoma County with headquarters, even as we speak. There is unified command between the state and county for Evacuation Services with plenty of capacity at the Healdsburg Community center, the main Evacuation Center with evacuees reporting there. Senator mcguire, we have a look from the skyfox with a live picture of the kincade fire. We just lost the signal but let me ask you, another fall, another warm morning and windy and we are talking about the county you represent another Massive Wildfire in Sonoma County. What is your reaction of whats been happening the last few years . Ive got to tell you i get emotional thinking about it. Its been devastating. You look at lake county since 2015, its lost 60 of its landmass and i never thought i would be standing there two years ago on that horrible october night watching coffey park being destroyed. The north bay has seen some of the worst wildfires in american history. 70 of coffey park is either rebuilding, rebuilt or under permit. We are seeing significant progress but the conditions in california have changed and the size and scope of wildfires have gotten worse. 14 of the 20 largest fires in state history have happened in the last decade and 12 of the 20 most destructive with Climate Change on the nine year drought contributing to the dry conditions on the ground and with these wind events, they are whipping his fires. They are ferocious. Dont mess around. If you receive Evacuation Orders, get out. Its devastating and our hearts are with those impacted. The state of california is throwing everything we have at this fire with Fire Fighting resources and Evacuation Services. Senator mike mcguire, thank you for joining us on the phone. I want to share more images from the kincade fire from overnight. We have a video clip sent to the newsroom from Matthew Henderson and thank you for sending this to us. You can see the flames spending through the women side east of geyserville. The flames may have crossed some parts of highway 28 and if you are in a safe location and want to share images, and i emphasize a safe location, feel free to share those images and share the video. Tweet us ktvu. Back as the senator said, if you receive an Evacuation Order, get out immediately. Well talk about the weather conditions when we come back and we will be with Steve Paulson in just a minute. Welcome back to mornings on 2. The kincade fire is burning in Sonoma County near geyserville with Evacuation Centers now open at the Healdsburg Community center, as well as the Sonoma County fairgrounds in santa rosa. Especially, for horses and livestock but so far, no injuries have been reported. As of right now, the official damage total is 10,000 acres in cal fire said the number is growing. At least two structures have been damaged and Authorities Say the fire is burning at a dangerous rate. The numbers are expected to rise and a short time ago, Cristina Rendon showed us a road where homes and vehicles were wiped out with flames jumping 128. Top with live pictures, another one the kincade fire and we just spoke to mike mcguire, representing Sonoma County and he said cal fire has a spotter plane in the air to survey the scene and that spotter plane will eventually get the green light for helicopters and other fixed wing aircraft to get in there and start fighting from the air. The state senator said because of the smoke and the visibility right now, they are not able to attack the fire from the air just yet but that could happen at any moment. If we can keep this live picture up, our meteorologist, Steve Paulson has been monitoring this. What does this picture tell you about the weather conditions . Im not seeing much wind driven some canyons may be winddriven im hearing they are getting air support now. They are still getting gusting up to 4550 milesperhour at 2500 feet and closer to town, its 1525. T see anything here that stands out and the nature of it is huge and i should add that if you do take your animals to the Sonoma County fairgrounds, i dont think the Community Animal rescue team has been called into action but make sure you leave information on your animal and take a picture. That may be what they need if something happens. All good points. Back i dont see anything unusual about the nature of it is huge. I dont see any jumping flames but now that its daylight, cal fire can get air support. Even if the wind dies down, what about the dew point . Humidity will be low. The temperatures will be around 9097. Humidity will stay in the teens to 20 . It went up a little bit in santa rosa but around the fire it could be a much different story with probably very low humidity and the wind should tail off late morning, afternoon but im not seeing that, yet. This reminds me of four years ago when you heard the state senator reference 2015 and the valley fire. Where this fire started, it was a different county but cobb mountains where the fire started and was very similar terrain with 10,000 acres within the first four hours, same as this one. We were not sure if this will explode to 50,000, but hopefully not. The problem is that temperatures will come down the next couple of days but sunday could be a stronger winds event and i believe pg e and some of those guys have focused on the european model and the short range models are coming to consensus that sunday might be worse. Not temperaturewise, but wind wise. We may get some breaks but it ramps up again on sunday for the only have a couple of days to get things under control and hopefully, the wind will tail down in the temps will be more favorable. Looking at a lot of you going to work and for the most part, 101 through Sonoma County is open but some of the roads on the sides are closed. Going to the bay area commute in the middle of oakland, that commute has typically been slow and weve had commutes that are pretty normal. San francisco had an earlier grass fire near cesar chavez and traffic has not recovered. Its been slow all morning and this is a look at interstate 880 and they are full strength everywhere in the bay area. Southbound six lady, everywhere is slow. They have not disappeared and 101 through San Mateo County gets better through redwood city and all of that Silicon Valley commute has been slow. Its 8 17 and lets go back to the desk. Tonight, the warriors play their first regularseason game in San Francisco since 1971 and ktvu has Frank Mallicoat joining us live from the chase center. Reporter the chase center has been rocking since it opened in early septber with 20 concerts, the who, elton john to name a few and finally, the warriors will play a game that counts by taking on the clippers at 7 30. Courtside is right over here and we are in the bowels of the chase center, the 1. 4 billion chase center. A lot of artwork. Klay thompson is out the entire season and will not play tonight. They could use him. If youve got courtside lounge seats, let me tell you what else you can do. There are 32 suites at the chase center and for those lucky to get those seats, welcome to your new home. Is this beautiful, or what . A full liquor cabinet, all you can eat food, wine and liquor with a beautiful table setting and big screen that would rival any man cave and a beautiful lounge to sit down and socialize or to watch the game. This is how the other half lives. They said if you asked the price, you probably couldnt afford it. Whether a caviar or beer and nachos, everyone is fired up. These teams count and dart team, or fans and everybody associated with it cant wait. Reporter we just left the lounge. Were having some trouble with frank, a big night at chase center. A sheriff in georgia is being sued after doing what he said would protect children on halloween. He posted a note trickor treating sign on sex offenders doors and three of them said it was a violation of rights and they are suing the Sheriffs Department. He started this last year and said the signs to keep children self safe. The lawyer said it violates Constitutional Rights of those clients. We want to eliminate a possibility of children in our county becoming prey to a sexual predator. There are people who think this is a great idea. They think this will protect kids but what they should be thinking about is, does this protect my rights . The lawyer at the Sheriffs Department has a right to post the list of offenders but not on their home. The sheriff said he will argue he is protecting children and following georgia law. Is sitting virginia updated a law that bans trick ortreaters over 14. It attracted National Attention last year for a law calling for a 100 fine or six months in jail. City leaders said the law was passed in 1970 but has never been enforced. It sparked debates across the country and has now removed the option of jail time but they still can be fined. Police will not actively enforce the law, they say. Campuses on colleges with decadesold drug policies are being sued. Some students were expelled for having medical marijuana and officials argue they could lose funding for breaking federal law which still labels cannabis as illegal. The challenges come from those that have to have drug tests under school policy. They say penalty should be lightened until a resolution is released. Two oakland schools have soil contaminated with lead. The elevated lead levels were found under pavement at the Ralph Bunche Academy in west oakland and the street academy. They said the soil does not pose a health risk because it its under the blacktop and entirely contained. A chaotic meeting in oakland. [ crowd chanting ] parents were trying to get past barricades last night when confronted by the Oakland Unified Police and security guards. The district said the barricades were brought for safety because of a takeover style protest for the meeting. Six were detained. We are pleating to them, pleading to them and trying to get on the stage to get your attention. Still, parents are being arrested and teachers are bruised and hurt and weve been threatened with mace and wooden clubs. What is the school board doing . Theyre having the meetings upstairs where parents cant even make public comment. Parents have been protesting planned School Closures and mergers and the district plans to hold a News Conference today and said its financially necessary. The recent power safety shutoff have towns trying to figure out how to break away from pg e and how san jose wants to be energy independent. Breaking news from geyserville with an overnight wildfire east of geyserville exploding with people told to evacuate. Our crews have seen at least one structure burning and the kincade fire is now 10,000 acres plus and we will bring you more from the firefight. From ktvu fox2 news, this is mornings on 2. Welcome back to mornings on 2. Im Gasia Mikaelian. Im mike mibach. Major breaking news. The kincade fire started burning east of geyserville and now has burned through at least 10,000 acres in these pictures were taken in the overnight hours. You can see a hard hit area with orange flames everywhere. Flames jumping up and very, very windy. Structures are on fire on geiser and red winery ad with the structures engulfed in flames. This is one of the first areas that was forced to evacuate an skyfox is part of our Team Coverage to give us a live picture from above the kincade fire and the fire is now burning. Its coming up on 12 hours with 0 containment and 10,000 acres. 300 firefighters are on the scene and we expect more. Also, an air attack will get under way soon, if not already. Steve paulson is monitoring conditions and the Weather Center and allie rasmus is at the Evacuation Center. We have Cristina Rendon at the fire lines. Where are you and what are you seeing . Reporter we are on a property along geiser road and removed from the initial location and found this property and it appears to be a winery. Unfortunately, there are no signs and we can find it on the map so we dont know what the name of the property is. We apologize. Cristina, can you hear us . Its reminiscent of what we saw in the north bay fire two years ago. Cristina rendon east of geyserville on red winery road, very hard hit. We saw what appeared to be a large estate or winery taken down by flames. Lot of wineries along 128 right on red winery road. Other communities include geyserville with the population about 1000 people and that is a mandatory evacuation. The casino is being threatened by the fire in that area and really, anyone along 128. You pack up and get out if you receive an Evacuation Order. Do not take a chance because the fire is raging outof control and the wind has caused a number of spot fires. That is a concern because you think the fire is burning over the ridge but all of a sudden, a gust picks up flames and embers and throws it in your direction and then it expands. Emergency services and the red cross are setting up shelters. Lets bring in allie rasmus at one place where people have been going since the overnight hours seeking refuge and perhaps comfort. Reporter this is the Healdsburg Community center and behind us you can see there is a red cross trailer and folks are helping people with about 45 that have checked in and people are evacuating the kincade fire and we have seen more starting to arrive after 6 30 and that is when geyserville was ordered to evacuate. In healdsburg, all we can see is heavy smoke with haze in the air and the smell of smoke is strong. They been passing out facemasks seen pieces of ash drifting down. Healdsburg schools are closed today and from the latest video, you can see that strong wind was overnight making containing the fire difficult. People living in homes along red winery road on highway 128 and geiser road through river road evacuated late last night and so did the red rock casino. We show you a couple living near Alexander Valley where their neighborhood is under Evacuation Orders. They broke through heavy smoke and flames at 6 00 this morning. We took the insurance papers and a couple of t shirts and left. Here we are. Weve been there 35 years and we built the house. Its in our hearts. We will see what happens. Embers were flying. We had just finished redoing the floors. Reporter you have to appreciate the fact that the couple was trying to keep a sense of humor about this very difficult situation, not knowing about the status of their home. They checked into the shelter in healdsburg and i saw them drive off a short time ago. They said they would try to get closer to their home to see if it was standing and that is not advised. Emergency officials want you to keep the roads open and clear so that firefighters and First Responders can get to the fire near the town of geyserville. We are seeing an ash and smoke from the fire and it is very heavy in healdsburg with city schools closed in healdsburg. The town is not under Evacuation Orders for healdsburg but some northern parts of unincorporated healdsburg are under evacuation warnings, basically to be ready and have your stuff packed and ready to go at a moments notice. If you are coming to this evacuation shelter in healdsburg at the community center, you can bring your pets and they have a place for horse trailers and other items with plenty of parking. You should come here if you need a place to go, if you are fleeing and evacuating the kincade fire. Allie rasmus is in healdsburg, just south of geyserville. Now, back to steve. Can you pinpoint the direction of the fire . For the most part, yes. Most of the smoke is white or brownish and that is the case of a vegetation fire and black indicates structures. Yes, mike, the prevailing wind is eastnortheast and the smoke has been sent toward the rushing river, westsouthwest or toward the pacific. We will see if that changes. There is a huge temperature trend already. 59 and cordelia and 10 miles northeast of travis, 72 with a northeast winds gusting and 32 humidity. 18 gusting to 26 with concord having an east wind. Oakland has the eastsoutheast wind and temperatures are warm. 73 at berkeley than 72 in vacaville and healdsburg, 71. Spee zero six and bodega bay stuck at 76 and dillon beach, penngrove, 77 and ross is 53. Some are very cool and some very warm and i dont see how they will get around not being in the low to mid90s today and the only good news might be the wind direction. It might shift eastsoutheast an tail off a little but that wouldnt be until late morning or early afternoon. The red flag warning will continue with dry soil and gusting 4050 at some high elevations and still continuing. The wind direction is taking it back to 101 and back to western Sonoma County with ridge ranch 73 degrees and still going west at 37. Still gusting and hopefully will come down the next couple of hours. River road and Sonoma County near 128 is closed. Chp has reaffirmed reports of a brush fire and it is just the beginning with 128 the area you would want to avoid near river road near geyserville because there are several closures. You probably wont get through and might interfere with people being evacuated. Lets look at the marin county commute furtr south where its normal traffic driving south to San Francisco out of southern marin. A normal commute with no major issues. A small grass fire was near cesar chavez a long time ago and the east bay commute is very heavy. The only blessing weve had is that its been routine with no major crashes. Just some routine fender benders. Very slow intohe west valley. 8 38 and lets go back to Gasia Mikaelian. San jose is moving forward to cutting ties with pg e. Sam liccardo is considering a proposal to create a power grid by buying assets from pg e. They discussed plans to create a customer owned utility that would go to the city council with building microgrids and then eventually take control of the pg e transmission lines. The utility had rejected this from San Francisco already. E. G. And he stated that the assets are not for sale but they are in bankruptcy court. Whether they like it or not, they are at the mercy of the bankruptcy judge and cpuc. Its the time to talk about how pg e gets reorganized in a way that will fulfill the Public Interest and hopefully do a better job to provide reliable power. The full council will discuss this next month and they also plan to get feedback from customers. With christmas a few months away, Retail Stores are getting ready for the shopping season. The geyserville population, 900 or 1000 right now and 10,000 acres have burned with that number expected to grow. 0 containment and one of the issues with the fire is it started when the sun went down last night and this thing was blowing out of control into the overnight hours in the Morning Hours and now that the sun is up, firefighters have better visibility and will attack us on the ground with more firefighters than they have. It was 300 at last point and the helicopters and airplanes will start dumping retardant and water on the flames, now that we are in the 8 00 hour with the sun up. Mandatory evacuations under way in geyserville and other communities around highway 128 and weve mentioned the air attack. You can see a helicopter right now buzzing the scene to find out where to start. They have no containment of the fire with no containment line so its spreading rapidly and if you are debating whether to ride this out, the Sonoma County sheriff said dont do it. Pack up what you can and get out of town or go to an Evacuation Center. There is one in healdsburg and santa rosa. The embers are in front of the main flames and geyserville was evacuated because spot fires started in the rushing river bed and in fact, firefighters are fighting the spot fires in the rushing river bed, one half mile from downtown geyserville. That was senator mike mcguire on the phone 45 minutes ago, in a car on his way to geyserville. He also represents the entire county of sonoma.
