That fire. People who live from geysers road to highway 128 are being ordered to evacuate. Along with people along pine flat road and red winery road. An evacuation warning has been issued for Northern Hills. And geyserville. The Sheriffs Office said people in those communities should be ready to evacuate. Bill martin has been monitoring the latest wind conditions near the area. Where the fire is burning. What are firefighters facing . This is up in the hill. We have good location on it. It is higher up. We see wind gusts the 37 miles per hour. Sustained winds 18 to 20. That dust in the fire zone it can go stronger than that. That is a big deal. We have the red flag warning. A sticky look at the topography. We dont have direct coordinates on this fire. Here is cloverdale appear. Here is hills berg here. Geyserville in between. The winds are blowing. The winds are coming. The winds are blowing like this. Whatever direction. The funneling and the canyons will. This fire will have a tendency to flare this way. There are some issues with 128 the highway. It is going to burn sword 101. If you were to think about firebreaks. You look at this area here. If you know this area that is floodplain. Along parts of the old russian river. It is some flat ground. If it were to flare out. That is the way it will go. It will burn towards the south and towards the west. The arrows i created for you. With that said youve got a lot to burn in here. It is going to definitely firefighters would have a pretty good shot in the flats. We dont have a lot of information. I do know. Were not going to get a lot of aerial support. You have 37 mile per hour winds. The humidity is 9 . The temperature is 68. It is definitely something that if you got an Evacuation Order in this area there is not a lot of population there. Hills berg is a good size city. Parts of Northern Hills berg are being asked to move. We have to watch this. We will get some more pictures. Gives you an idea of the fire. I believe we are north of the fire. We are left to right is where the fire is burning. You can see the smoke shearing off that way. It is a very slow update. It has grown a little bit since we have been watching it. This is the story right now. This fire rneast southeast of cloverdale. North in a bit east of hills berg. Joining us now on the phone is cal fire spokesman jonathan cox. What can you tell us about this wildfire . Is th a wi driven fire. acres what we consider the geysers area. That is that hilly area when youre driving up 101 between hills berg and Cloverdale Geyserville area. Right now the conditions are really just being by the wind gusts. Eric attack over the scene of the fire. They were reporting severe turbulence in their flight. A lot of resources are being sent that way. Strike teams from throughout the area. Preposition resources in the counties of the red flag warnings. There are obviously evacuations conducted by the Sheriffs Department. This is a wind driven fire. Moving at what we consider a criticals rate of spread. It sounds like you mentioned you are you do have some aircraft and some helicopters that are flying here even though it is dark out that are able to do some drops. We have i dont know about helicopters. We do have an air attack over the fire. That air attack is able to give us good ice with the fire activity is doing. There is a limit for them being and the sky as far as how much it can take. They have already requested at the crack of dawn we have all of our rotary wing aircraft available to respond. Anticipation of when the winds do die down. We can get helicopters and aircraft in there. As quickly as possible. Right now the real focus is what we fall back to on the wind driven fires. Which is evacuation. Engaging where we can on the fire. But obviously it moves a lot faster than we can. Getting people out of harms way is our number one priority. When it comes to overnight strategy when it is dark out there and you have a wind dripping fire spreading rapidly. A critical rate of speed. What is the biggest priority and how to firefighters tried to get some type of containment lines started . That is a great question. The real priority is life to the firefighters. In the public pick getting people out of the way. Second said that we engage where we have targets of opportunity. Protecting structures. Protecting communities. Making sure we are looking at asset that need protecting in front of the fire. Thirdly when the wind dies down. We will actually engage in some perimeter control to try to stop the head of the fire. We have to be tactical about that. We cant take the fire head on. Jonathan cox we appreciate your expertise. We wish firefighters good luck in trying to get the fire under control.
