Hayward is considering closing a loophole after a Company Called the Reliant Group bought apartments last year. In march the city Council Passed an ordinance exempting the property from the just cause ordinance. The owner needed that to turn the property into Affordable Housing. Participants check in at 7 30 and today is not going to be an easy day. They are getting everything set up and they are going to face a series of trials, kind of giving you an idea here. They will have to put out a live fire, responding to a multivehicle car crash, and perform an extrication from a vehicle using the jaws of life. They will also see how crews help in medical emergencies and a window rescue operation, plus seeing how a water rescue is done all live in realtime. Organizers say this will give the officials to see what its like for firefighters and paramedics to do their job and see the challenges they face every day. Lieutenant ken smith with the San FranciscoFire Department has been on the job more than 20 years and says, for instance, he wants them to see how cramped some of the ambulances can be when theyre trying to work on somebody who needs that medical help. Well look at what you can expect for your neighborhood coming up. And we are learning about a mixup at sfo involving an airplane taking off from the wrong runway. That mistake left pilots with a runway that was shorter than anticipated, and it was not and isolated incident. Reporter back in 2015, incorrect runway information was sent into a computer and got a message. The engine need more runway and that crew thought they were on the longer runway, but they were on the shorter runways. When they took off, they almost overran the runway with only 400 feet to spare. The carrier reported the incident to the federal Aviation Administration that this had happened numerous times. We did a Data Analysis of our own and found out in the previous four years, there have been 25 incidents at sfo where airlines have taken off with less than a thousand feet of runway remaining. Reporter some but not all the incidents probably were due to erroneous runway selections punched into computers. As a result, changes were made to avoid this. We have been able to do extensive outreach of the pilot community, not just american but the International Pilot community as well. Reporter in all incidents, the runway was rapidly running out. But on all runways here, there is either 1,000 feet of ditional runway the plane can use or have softer materials to slow the plane. The function is to stop aircraft that overshoot the runway. Reporter after this 2017 incident and the corrections made. Sfo has not had a single incident of a plane departing with too little runway left. Work on runway repair at sfo is ahead of schedule. The airport said last night crews transitioned from the first phase to the second phase, which was supposed to happen on monday. The airport closed one of four runways and they are trying to construct a new base. We have seen hundreds of Flight Cancellations and delays every day, and those are expected to last until september 27th. Barts construction near the lafayette station is ahead of schedule. This is a live look at highway 24 and the lafayette festival wont be affected. There will be regular bart service during fleet week. San franciscos iconic cable car system was shut down yesterday for maintenance and improvements. During the shutdown, buses will replace the cable cars on the same routes.
