2019. i'm with mike and gasia mikaelian. over the weekend, i noticed that the stage at chase center, one spot moves. >> i see. >> i was trying to watch it move. ten minutes later, you notice people are facing the other way. is this a metallicca or a chase center thing? >> we'll find out as more and more people perform out there. >> here's what we are going to say. this is it, over thousands of people metallicca heads mixed with the symphony. this is the high tech setting helped to elevate the performance with a round stage that rotated 90 degrees every five songs. everyone moves. >> that is great. no matter where you're sitting, you have the different view. >> what did you think did chase center overall? >> it is brand-new, even like the bathrooms are new. everything is clean. >> there was a power outage in the neighborhood before the show. >> so you give it a thumbs up? >> i do. construction on san francisco international's busiest runways is creating challenges for travelers. we're live at sfo. big number of delays this morning? >> reporter: i want to put this in perspective for you. on a normal day, sfo sees anywhere from 15 to 30 flight cancellations. just since midnight till 8:30, take a look at this board, 144 flighted delays so far and 110 cancellations all across the airlines at sfo. and the worst delay, four hours. the majority of issues are because of a project to reconstruct the project. they need to replace 1800 feet of runway. lighting and drainage infrastructure will be swapped out. it intersects with two other runways, one left and one right. both of those runways will be shut down intermittently in the next three weeks. this weekend, the faa reports delays up to four hours and 15 minutes. between saturday and sunday, the airport reported 624 flight delays and 247 cancellations. airport spokesperson understands how frustrating it can be. >> we really apologize for the inconvenience. there is never a good time to close a runway. but we've chosen this time because is it the period of least impact. is it before the holiday travel season begins. we need to do this during a dry weather month to allow all the surfaces to cure. that is why we're doing it right now. we get this is a big inconvenience for everybody. >> reporter: the runway repair work is not just affecting flights, but also the roads. traffic around mill ray avenue and old bay shore highway was stop and go this weekend. 600 trucks will go through the area every day to drop off and pick up materials. the project wraps up september 26th. for the next three weeks, sfo will experience the delays and the cancellations. if you have a little bit of flexibility in the schedule, check with your airlines to see if they'll waive those change fees. the city of san francisco is working to buy power lines from pg&g in a statement, the mayor and city attorney called it an important step toward energy independence. the city started to explore the equipment after pg&g filed for bankruptcy in january. pg&g has been a part of san francisco since the company was founded more than a century ago. we don't believe this is in the best interest of our customers and stakeholders, we're committed to working with the city and remain open to communication on the issue. cal fire is putting out a warning of potentially dangerous conditions out there. cal fire said that northern california's fire season could end by halloween but the rest could be after thanksgiving or later. the u.s. forest service reports this is only 5% contained and burned 60 square miles. that is bigger than the entire city of san francisco. this is highway 395. but the road does remain open. it started on wednesday. and the cause is under investigation. the fire burning in tan ma county is now 50% contained. it was started by lightning last thursday. higher humidity and the lower temperatures and the decrease in winds helped the fire crews to regain control. happening today, the contra costa county district is unveiling its new fire station 16 on happy valley road. it will enhance the emergency response in fire vulnerable areas. the opening ceremony is at 11:00 and the firefighters will be offering tours of the new fire station. there is a discovery of a rope that some say looked like a noose at an oakland elementary school. this is the second time in less than a month that has been found there. the school staff member found the rope tide at the top of the baseball batting cages that sit above the school on the school property. the school cut it down immediately and contacted the authorities. >> fbi did come in and investigate. and they determine they find neither one was a hate crime. >> first reported incident was three weeks. a rope resembling a noose hung from the front of the school. they have e-mails parents and planned to hold a vigil against hate. there is now a cancelled plan against the taliban and al qaeda leaders. some said they are outraged to being invited to the united states and especially at camp david and so close to the september 11th anniversary of the attacks. >> we conclude this was a appropriate place. you know the history of camp david. lots of bad folks came through that place. you don't don't get to negotiate with good guys. >> president trump tweeted that the meetings have been cancel after the taliban took credit for two suicide killings last week, one of which killed a u.s. army sergeant. a "washington post" poll finds that 89% of respondents, republican or democrat, support mandatory background checks for all potential gun buyers. the same survey that 56% of the people support a nationwide ban of assault weapons. happening today, congress returns to washington after a month and a half recess. democrats said they'll reintroduce calls for comprehensive gun control. following the recent mass shootings, president trump appeared to be open to debating new gun control laws. but mitch mcconnell will not bring up any measures up for vote that the president does not support. there will be a forum and gun violence prevention. >> i support an immediate assault weapon ban. to me that would be the immediate smart thing to do. >> we're not going to vote on bills on the senate floor that the president is not willing to sign. the president needs to step up here and set some guidelines for what he would do. >> the house democrats said they will investigate president trump and his administration. the house judiciary committee is expected to meet this week to lay out how it could move forward with and i am with impeachment. democratic presidential candidates will be heading to houston for a debate on thursday. this time there will only be ten on the stage. >> the field is deep. but we're reaching a point now where the voters are differentiating. and the candidates have to demonstrate progress as we get closer and closer to iowa and new hampshire. >> another republican has announced that he will challenge president trump in the 2020 election. former south carolina governor mark sanford said that he will challenge him because he said that the republican party has lost its way. there are now polling numbers. and candidates need to get donations from 130,000 people and get 2% support in four qualifying polls. the new poll out yesterday shows that san francisco resident with 2% support in nevada. he will not be in the debate this thursday in houston because he was one point short of qualifying. making munie more efficient. how to keep the area's biggest transit system on track. hurricane dorian wreaks havoc massive storm made landfall. >> reporter: hurricane dorian continues to rise. there say population less than 300. residents say that 17 people died in the storm. on the island, bodies are now being search and rescue efforts a challenge. hurricane dorian struck as a category 5 hurricane with 185- mile-an-hour winds. it then hovered over the bahamas for a day and a half, destroying countless homes and leaving an estimated 70,000 homeless. the united states coast guard continues to assist the bahama government in the search and rescue mission. and private organizations are stepping up. >> the water filtration was the first priority or the. we knew we needed to get fresh water on the island. they are delivering hot meals to shelters where survivors are being housed. they received 16 children on saturday. all hurricane survivors. the young four months old. we don't knowwhat happened to their parents. but here they have a roof over their head and food and people caring for them. they say i am my brother's keeper and doing whatever they can to try to help each other after the storm. japan is being hit by a strong typhoon that killed one woman. it hid near tokyo with 134-mile- an-hour winds late yesterday. that is equivalent of a category 4 hurricane. 2million more were told to prepare to evacuate. three firefighters are recovering after battling flames in a warehouse in downtown los angeles. it took three hours for the crews to put out the flames. nearly 200 firefighters responded to the scene. they were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. two firefighters are being treated for injuries and one for exhaustion. uc berkley police are looking for two suspects for an armed robbery in the berkley hills. at 6:00 last night, the two suspects each holding a handgun approached two people own grisly peak boulevard. they demanded that they hand over their personal property. san francisco chinese community said that the number of burglaries and crimes are up in the asian community. they are less frequent crime victims than other groups. the police department said that the african-american community is disporportionately targeted in aggravated assault and sexual assault than the overall population. today marks the beginning of the fourth annual transit week in san francisco. one is a 30 minute travel initiative where local advocacy groups call to speed up travel time until the city. they will call money into a muny to help. you may have watched the 49ers win the first game of season after beating tampa bay in their very few parts with women or women of color, it is a complicated moment. and now we have so many women playwrights come together forefront. this is really bring ago awareness how many women playwrights are out there. >> play was created and set in the early 1980s. that seems like a hundred years ago. i imagine there is a new urgency and sharper focus and me too moment. women are banding together. >> i feel like there is sensitivity and awareness to women's rage right now, that it is okay to be angry about these things. and also, that as we like investigate the gender spectrum like what does it mean to be masculine and what does it mean to be ambitious. is ambitious masculine. and there is a lot of interesting conversations as the play opens up because of that. >> and a lot of women don't feel free to be feminine in the workplace if they're not honored or too nice or emotional. >> is like being nice and emotional inheritancely feminine? >> i wanted to be a news report, have a family and have everything. people would say, honey, you cannot have it all. the question is can you have it all. do you think is possible? >> personally, i don't actually. i think that people do have to make life certain sacrifices. i think the expectation that you can be everything for everyone it is unrealistic personally. i feel like you can only give so much of yourself to certain things. >> i imagine people are going to talk about your character in this play. give them one nugget you want them to take away from the show? >> justs that i feel like the play really -- instead of answer stronger piece of energy is going to drop in tomorrow. we're slow to warm up. 60s and 50s for some. look at san francisco temperature. they have gone way down. there is not much of a breeze. it should pick up a little later. more likely tomorrow as the system digs in. if we get any rain out of it, it would be on tuesday. for this time of year it is not bad and the pattern does look progressive. and nothing is locking in. i think another one is on the way for late sunday. cool to mild and a lot of sunshine and a little cooler on the forecast highs. 60s, 70s, 80s. but look at tomorrow. the forecast highs take a little dip tomorrow. upper 70s for the inland locations. that is well below average for a lot. but 60s, 70s and 80s. you know september, we'll probably turn things around on a dime. it will start on wednesday. it does look upper 80s and a few low 90s friday into saturday. enjoy it. it looks cooler again sunday. let's check in with dave clark in the newsroom. >> reporter: federal agents with the fbi and served search warrants for the company that owned that scuba boat that caught on fire and killed all the people. it is part of the continuing investigation. all but one of the body have been recovered. and over the weekend, the search was suspend because of strong winds and high seas. they will resume the search as quickly as possible. cal fire is warning people statewide about wildfires. warmer and drier weather is forecast for this month and next month. cal fire said that northern california's fire season may be over by halloween. but in southern california, it may continue till after thanksgiving. the walker fire which began last wednesday is getting bigger. growing to 44,000 acres. it is california's biggest wildfire right now and only 7% contained. mandatory evacuations are underway in several communities along highway 395. the cause of that fire still under investigation. that is a brief look at some of the top stories that we're working on. we're following a developing story in alameda county where the firefighters have responded to a vegetation fire near highway 84. look on the map here. the fire is burning east of ruby hill country club. it started shortly after 6:30. and so far, no reports of damage or evacuations. we'll keep you updated on this story as it develops. democratic presidential candidate harris said she would stop the death penalty and clear the nationwide rape kit backlog legalize marijuana. the mayor recently proposed an ordinance for all gun owners to carry liability to carry. we talked about criminal gun owners would likely not get insurance. >> if a police officer stops someone and is not insured that is a criminal misdemeanor. that is a basis for the seizure, the car or the gun and a fine and criminal sanction. the point of this is to encourage more responsible behavior. we know that insurance is one tool to help folks do that. >> mayor also spoke about his recent climate emergency declarations and he working to infrastructure getting away from gat and oil and using reusable energy. brown have been released from the raiders and signed a deal with the patriots. we have reactions from the raider fans. >> reporter: by this time next year, this will no longer be the raiders' headquarters. they will be in las vegas. but we saw a handful of fans, diehard raider fans to come in and take in the atmosphere, take a picture of the flag and stand by the later players' entrance. one person they will not see is wide receiver antonio brown. after dispute over his helmet and missed practices and argument over his boss, he took to social media and finally saturday morning, the team released him. this is browns reaction to that announcement. appeared to be very happy about the decision. within hours, he signed a $15 million deal with the patriots. but the raiders' fans hope to move on and final home opener. >> for us, it is just a vibe. there is no other stadium that i've been to as the same feel like you get in oakland. but the atmosphere it not going to be the same. >> reporter: the raider are very likely going to vegas. the new stadium is under construction. the friends say it the 8th year in a row that they made the trip for the season opener. kickoff 7:20 tonight. rath i'm so happy right now. i cannot contain my excitement right now. >> after a car accident left her ankle crushed at just four years old, she had to undergo multi-surgery and the possibility of maybe not being able to run again. but all of that changed when she received a big surprise at the giants' ballpark over the weekend. the smile on your face is priceless. what a weekend has been. >> it has. >> and it is continuing. you're going to be giants' game tonight. something is going to happen and you have no clue? >> no clue. >> at age four you were involved in an accident. can you describe what happened? >> we were on the way home from a party at my tia's house. and we got into a car accident with the semi. the left side where i was sitting got sheared off. my leg from my hip to knee completely shattered and from my knee to my ankle. >> and a number of surgeries. >> eventually the pain has gotten too much. so we looked into my possibility of surgeries. my mom took me to like six different of different doctors so we could make and educated decision what we should do. one doctor mentioned amputation. it has been one of my greatest fears to lose my leg. but i've been working so hard to save it. but i started researching amputation and prosthetics. and i saw people doing these amazing things with their prosthetics. >> inspiration to you? >> yes. >> growing up and not being able to run. that must have been difficult for you? >> it has. >> over the weekend, you came to san francisco. what were you told was going to happen in san francisco at the ballpark? >> i thought we were just going to the mobility clinic and have a vacation from saturday to monday and enjoy the city. >> what happened? >> they surprised me with my running blade. and i cried. >> tell me what you were feeling at that moment? >> just overwhelming happiness. this leads to more opportunities for me, more doing what i want. and it is just amazing. and i'm so grateful. >> this is it. this is what you brought in. it is was gifted to you. this is not a cheap prosthetic. when you say it gives you more opportunities, what do you foresee yourself doing with this? you did do a 5k. >> i did. >> what do you want to accomplish? >> my goal so to complete a marathon. with this leg, i'll be able to do it. it's been my dream to run and jump and now i'm going to be able to do that. >> this weekend was presented by the challenged athletes foundation what is the foundation's goal. and it gives opportunity and supports those with the desire to live active, athletic lifestyle. you're doing that but there may be children, four, five, ten- year-old going through what you experienced. do you think you'll give back and be an inspiration in their lives like others were inspirational to you? >> i would love to i want to give back to help other kids that are like me and been through similar experiences. i want to go into prosthetics and work with children and to be an inspiration to them and they can do anything. >> have a great giants' game tonight. that will be a >> that is right. it is taking place next saturday and sunday in san francisco. it is a great opportunity for those that enjoy cheese to learn a little more. it is one of the biggest fundraisers for an organization called the california artisan's cheese guild. they promoting the sustainability of the artisan cheese community. >> listen to you, the artisan cheese community. >> yes. we kick it off saturday night, 6 to 9:00 p.m. this is the cheese maker celebration. so a rarity. we have 20 plus cheese makers under the same roof. they'll be out there with dozens of different cheeses. so and opportunity to find some new cheeses and find some old favorites with great food and breaching and music. >> how does cheese go from this to that? >> it all starts off with great milk. that is why we have a great community of cheese makers in california because we have a great history of dairy in the state. we have to transform it into in kurds and way. and takes it from a liquid to a solid. and a cheese form, the cheese maker is able to collect the kurds. by collecting the kurds them into the form and allow them to settle overnight, we have a young cheese. it looks like a kurds to come together and form a cheese. but first step in the magic is in the aging room where we can see a young cheese the cultures to come to live. >> let me ask you about the cheese festival. you can even be a novice? >> that's right. the first night is to celebrate the cheese makers. it definitely sells out. sunday is moving to the cheese school of san francisco. we have not had a chance to visit there yet. they do close classes throughout the year. but sunday, september 15th, the first class is actually a hands on fresh cheese production class. you can learn how to make cheese at home. the next class is a pairing class. a different taste profiles. >> it sells out. remember it does sell out. it is a popular event. so we'll put the information on our website. it takes place this weekend. the
