By the brunt of the storm. Powerful winds reached speeds up to 185 miles an hour in the bahamas, ripping off roofs, tearing down power lines. Good evening, im julie haener. Now late today Southern California or South Carolinas governor ordered a mandatory evacuation of residents along the coast. Evacuations will go into effect for georgias coast tomorrow afternoon. Evacuations are also underway in some counties in florida tonight in Daytona Beach, people are bracing for the worst, boarding up stores, stocking up on supplies. A hurricane shelter opened in boynton beach, florida today 100 miles west of the baa a mas. Fox news Lauren Blanchard in Daytona Beach. But we begin with chief meteorologist bill martin for where the storm is headed now. Thats the big question mark here. Where is this storm headed . Its a massive storm and a record setting storm. In many cases it will be a historic storm in many different categories. This is a category 5 not seen in the atlantic. Raking in the bahamas right now. Its not a very typical island. The hurricane will stay up. This thing will drop down, right through the mountain ranges. The bahamas, they have a low typography, continuing to hold in strength and still a category 5. We will take a look at the path and theres a couple of things that are ominous here and obviously in my mind, this thing is running along the coast like this is not a good sign or a good thing because this thing, they could really easily go to the outside of this cone. And they could run just rake the coastline for hundreds of miles all the way up into the carolinas with hurricane forced winds. So this is what some of the models are doing. Take a look at two of the solutions specifically. The yellow and the blue. Now notice those resolutions there, and the idea that that storm could do this is devastating. Now that would be a devastating impact along the eastern, southeastern part of the united states. A lot will happen in the next 24 hours. This is a slow mover, moving about five miles an hour. A little faster than you could walk. It will be a slow moving disaster. When we come back, we will look at it more closely and then have your weather as well. As we have been reporting, the bahamas were hit hard today by dorian, prompting many people in the southeast to get ready for the potential destruction to come. Fox news Lauren Blanchard will join us live in Daytona Beach with more on the damage and the preparations. Lauren . Reporter hi, julie. Folks here in Daytona Beach, taking the risk deciding not to board up their businesses and just stay put. Others say this one, they will feel a little different. Instead theyre boarding up their businesses, getting out of town or at least moving away from the water in some of the low lying areas. And theyre heading inland. Then this category 5 hurricane, they are now on record and tied for the strongest atlantic hurricane to ever make landfall. The problem with dorian, it is just making the conditions worse. Dorian makes landfall twice in the northern bahamas. Bringing wind gusts of over 200 miles per hour. Its expected to dump up to two feet of rain in the northern bahamas. A life threatening storm surge could raise water levels up to 20 feet, potentially destroying parts of the island nation. And some areas you cannot tell the difference as to the beginning of the street. And where the ocean begins. Tslow moving system is expected to pass over the bahamas on monday afternoon before heading north. Florida, the carolinas, and parts of georgia, they are on high alert. And it seems to be one of the biggest hurricanes that we have ever seen. And that is a problem. And we are encouraging everyone to be dill janet. Pay attention, get prepared now. Stocking shelters with food and water ahead of dorianest a arrival. Evacuating patients as the storm will inch towards the southeastern u. S. Hundreds of power trucks are prepared to help with outages. The storm preparations, bringing in people from across the country, who are ready to lend a hand. And it is kind of nice to give them back to the other communities. And here in Daytona Beach, we are under a hurricane watch just 60 miles south. A hurricane warning now everyone is waiting to see exactly what dorian does and how badly this area will be hit. Live in Daytona Beach, lauren lauren, ktvu fox 2news. We will come together to focus on supporting and comforting each other. Well the minor Traffic Violation will transform into a man hunt at Oaklands International airport today. The sheriff deputy tried to pull them over where Authorities Say he drove through an airport gate and right onto the tarmac. It happened this afternoon and still at this hour no sign of the suspect. Ktvu has more on the search for the suspect. Julie, very bizarre indeed. The incident started around noon when an Alameda County sheriffs deputy was on patrol at the airport and simply tried to make a traffic stop. Thats when things took a strange twist. The normal buzz at oakland International Airport took on an added dimension when the sheriff deputy saw a fourwheel drive chevy pickup run through a stoplight. He decided to enforce the traffic stop and see what was going on with that vehicle. That vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. Reporter that pursuit eventually came down this utility road where the driver of the truck ended up smashing through that gate, gate a at about 50 miles per hour. After crashing through the gate, the driver continued down the road more than half a mile into the area of the runways. And eventually jumped out of the vehicle and ran off. Authorities used a chopper, drones, boats, and k9s to search for the suspect. A dog picked up a ent from the truck into the fridged waters of the bay, but after two hours, still no suspect. We are kind of in a recovery mode here as to where is this person and all likelihood everything is indicating he went into the water and as we know that water is very cold and most people will not survive in more than 20 to 30 minutes. Authorities say they found a few air pistols, hoods, masks inside the truck, but nothing illegal. And that truck is registered to an individual out of santa cruz county. We are trying to do more follow up now and ascertain if that is the individual that were looking for. During the search a few commercial planes were diverted here to the north executive field. Otherwise it was business as usual at the main terminal. Searchers kept an eye into the bay, but no sign of the suspect. If you had to do a search, this is the kind of area you would want to do a search in. It is very open. We are able to pick things up quickly and were not seeing anything. Even though there was no eyewitness, all signs that this suspect went into the bay. So the Sheriffs Department said this likely is going to turn into a recovery operation. And also since this happened at the International Airport, the fbi is going to be taking over the investigation and they will certainly be trying to figure out what motivated this person to run from what looked to be a simple traffic stop. Greg, thank you. And Authorities Say dangerous street racing led to a deadly crash in the south bay. The impacts splitting the jeep in half.
