Starting off your day this morning. As far as eventual forecast later on today. A big temperature range from the mid60s coastside all the way to the mid90s. You can take your pick. Today probably one of the hottest days of the week inland. That means more 90s showing up for your saturday forecast. Around the bay, still warm. 70s and 80s, and the coastline mainly in the 60s. Contra costas firefighters are battling fires in the marsh creek area. A shelter in place was ordered for morgan road territory road. There is no word yet on what it may have sparked these two fires. Surrounding Fire Agencies have all been called in to help put out these fires. Ktvus Elissa Harrington is live, where fire crews have mobilized. Good morning, eliss a. Good morning. You can see the fire burning on that ridge behind me. But we know, so far, 500 acres have burned. I got an alert saying shelter in place on marsh creek road between Morgan Territory and deer creek valley. Theres a lot of smoke. A lot of firefighters on scene. And what we know is that fires are burning on the north side of marsh creek road. So far, no homes have burned. But the fire is close to several structures, including the marsh creek juvenile detention facility. Thats about half a mile from where we are. I can tell you, were surrounded by open space. And a lot of ranchers. In fact, weve passed a lot of rancher the with trailers out, getting ready if they need to. People should avoid the area. There say road block up at marsh creek and pine lanes. The road between clayton and brentwood is completely shut down to traffic. We dont know what sparked these fires, or exactly how many fires broke out overnight. Theres not a lot of wind right now. So firefighters definitely hoping to get this under control. The fire also burning by the clayton palms community, which is a Mobile Home Park. So again, several structures threatened. And if we can put the camera around, i want to show you one of the ranchers down there. Im seeing chickens walking around. Theres home, people out, keeping a close eye on this fire. Making sure it doesnt come too close to their home. Reporting live in east Contra Costa County, Elissa Harrington, fox 2. Gunman at the garlic festival in gilroy died of a selfinflicted gunshot. The 19yearold was hit multiple times by officers bullets. And they say he may have been already lying on the ground. Police initially said the officers bullets killed the gunman. The new information doesnt change what happened. In my mind, it changes nothing. You know, the officers still got there fast. They engaged fast. They threw fire. And they eliminated threat. Whether he fired that final shot or not is, in my mind changes nothing. The information comes as people in gilroy said they are working to move forward as a united community. The people of gilroy say their spirit isnt broken and the city will rebound. A center is set up at rutger elementary school. So far, the center has helped more than 350 people. Some walked in, while others called the center. Everything from shock to disbelief to outright traum taization. The phrase gilroy strong can be seen throughout the city. Local stores are selling t shirts with this message. One store owner made these shirts after she made a donation to the relief fund. But she still wanted to do more for her community. And arrested this man, related to the garlic festival shooting. Jose pinon reportly wrote, quote, he wanted to kill 500, not 3. In reference to the festival shooting. He also faces charge of violating a restraining order. Organizers say they stepped up security for this weekends festival of the arts. Fremont police had already planned for a number of officers both in uniform and plain clothes. There are also large street barricades and a surveillance tower. But this year, because of the garlic festival shooting in gilroy, security is going to be even tighter. Organizers will have uniformed s. W. A. T. Officers in the crowd. Two of the fremont festivals, longtime vendors were hurt in gilroy and remain in the hospital. Clearly, they will not be at our festival this year. So we are having a sign in the position that they normally have. And i know theres a go fund me page to help with their escalating medical costs. So were going to be promoting that as well. Organizers say they will be paying tribute to all of the victims of the shootings; today and sunday in downtown fremont. A raffle organized by the Police Officers union is canceled. The drawing caused controversy because the winning prize was a semi automatic rifle. A fullpage ad for the rifle appears in van guard, the san jose Police Officers organization. Organizers say the ad should have been pulled following sundays shooting in gilroy. Ill take full responsibility that i didnt take it down after gilroy. Our focus was just on gilroy. But i absolutely think it was a mistake not to take it down sooner. I apologize for that. But you know what . We did the right thing to do. Thats a good decision. I hope that they keep their word in this raffle. A gun raffle is off the table forever. The san jose Police Officers association promised the annual raffling of a gun will no longer take place. New this morning. Rohnert park police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a 16yearold girl. Police say that assault happened 10 00 tuesday night. The girl said she was on a path along hopeland creek Near Country Club drive when a man grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. The suspect is described as a man in his 20s with a heavy accent and a tattoo on his left hand. If you have any information, youre asked to call police. And a standoff in palo alto is still under way this morning, after nearly 24 hours. Police say it started yesterday morning. They say the woman is safe this morning. And negotiators are still trying to get the man to surrender. The standoff at a home. Police say the man may be armed with a gun. But they say there is no danger to the community. San rafael police are stepping up patrols after a spike in home burglaries. Police say there have been 14 burglaries in the past four weeks. Eight of them happened in the tera linda neighborhood. And almost always between 9 00 a. M. And noon. Police believe the burglars are watching and waiting for people to leave their homes before breaking in. Theyre pretty quick about it. And they grab a pillow case. They filled the pillow case up with what are they looking for . Whether its electronics or jewelry. Yeah. And theyre gone. Found a dog on the bed. Police are also reminding people to be aware of their surroundings and report anything unusual. Now an update on two local teenagers being held on suspicion of killing a Police Officer. The families of 18yearold gabriel natali yors and 19yearold are asking a court to release the teens. But their attorneys dont know when the tribunal will hear the appeal. Authorities say the teens stole the dealers bag and demanded their money and a gram of coke. The dealer tipped off police and went o. Authorities say an elder stabbed an officer to deat elders father is returning to the bay after visiting him twice in custody. Elders father released this statement saying, quote, it was good to see finn again. The family remains broken over the loss of life. They are hoping for Surveillance Video to show what actually happened. A cliff collapsed onto a beach in Southern California. This all happened in the city of encinitas, which is about 30 miles north of san diego. That beach is a popular spot for both tourists and locals and it was crowded at the time of the collapse. Lifeguard asks deputies rushed to help people who were trapped under mounds of rock and soil. The beach has been closed off. Authorities say all of the victims were adults. Come august 20th, you will not be able to buy a bottle of water anywhere at San Francisco airport, unless that bottle is made of something other than disposable plastic such as metal or glass. Passengers are already banned from being Water Bottles of any kind through airport security. This new policy is really one that supports our own stannability goal. What happens on the 20th . You can still buy water at sfo. But youll be either buying it in a relike labl aluminum can, bottle. Can they have mandated that they provide only compostable straws, dishes, cups, utensils, and condiments in packages. Really, this is the next step in terms of diverting products that would normally go into landfill. Yes. Plastic bottles like aluminum cans, cardboard, and other clean waste, can be recycled. A mother and her son are recovering this morning after firefighters in San Francisco had to wes rescue the pair. Firefighters say the call came in around noon friday, after a passerby noticed the two and their dog stranded 20 feet down a cliff. It took about two hours to pull the 8yearold boy, the woman and dog to safety. Firefighters say the woman and son were shaken up but not hurt.
