winds and dry hot conditions. they are expecting it to grow again today. >> this is obviously a dangerous fire. we have no containment and we have extreme fire behavior. >> that fire behavior, they are facing dry conditions with low humidity and high temperatures. those temperatures reaching into the triple digits. overnight, it tripled in size and at last report supports -- scorched 24 square miles. that is half the size of the city of san francisco. it is burning on both sides of interstate 5. the only highway connecting oregon to california. truck drivers had to abandon 17 big rigs as those flames approached. four of those trucks were destroyed along with their loads. chp says agencies will meet to discuss if and when they can reopen interstate 5, a critical route for commercial truckers. we will continue to monitor this fire and keep you up dated on air and on our social media. >> thank you. you can see where the fire is burning as we show you this map. that is the fire icon to the left of the shaded area. fire crews have not been able to map the burn area itself. it is the outline of the herd fire that burned through many acres since it broke out a month ago. that fire is 75% contain. to the south that is the burn area that was scarred by the carr fire, which is now mostly contain. it destroyed more than 1000 homes. another check on conditions. >> this part of the state, while it is cool in the bay area, there are temperatures in the 90s every day. when the carr fire started, we had temperatures above the hundreds. from yesterday, you can see the beginning of the delta fire. look at the smoke being generated. that's not cloud cover, that is the rapid growth of the delta fire. that is for wednesday. coming closer, take a look at the terrain which is always a challenge for the fire crews. lakehead, interstate 5, to the north, we see these mountains popping up. the terrain is always a big challenge for the fire crews. you just can't march up to the fire zone, you have to have the air attack. in terms of conditions around the region, it is actually not excessively hot just yet. temperatures are in the upper 70s and lower 80s. i'm talking about single digit, relative humidity. winds at about four miles per hour. in higher elevations, wind gusts 10 to 15 miles per hour. we are forecasting 90 degrees this afternoon and maybe a few isolated spots warmer than that. it will be dry in the afternoon hours as those moisture levels come down. unfortunately, another major fire burning in our state. >> here we go again. thank you, mark. investigation is underway into the death of a teenager who fell at yosemite national park. an 18-year-old died yesterday when he slipped off of the cliff while trying to take a selfie. the mother confirmed the death and said her son was spending his summer traveling through the united states. national park service is have not commented on the death at this time. yosemite national park will operate as scheduled today. new york attorney general subpoenaed all eight roman catholic dioceses in the state as part of the investigation into the churches handling of sexual abuse allegations. the subpoena seeks documents related to sexual abuse allegations and financial payments to possible victims. the attorney general wants to know how church leaders responded to a report on the sexual abuse of minors. this comes three weeks after an investigation found rampant sexual abuse of more than 1000 children by 300 priests in philadelphia. we are learning more information about the deadly shooting in cincinnati. a gunman killed three people, wounded two others at an office building in the heart of the downtown area. the shooter also died. s.w.a.t. teams rushed to the scene after getting reports of an active shooter. cincinnati's mayor is saying that the quick response averted what could have been an even bigger tragedy. >> it appears the police were there within seconds from the time they got to the lobby, apparently there were shots below and he moved to the lobby. he was actively shooting innocent victims. >> authorities have not identified the shooting victims or the gunman and there is no word on a possible motive. an investigation underway in sacramento after police officers shot and killed a masked man was armed early this morning. >> is bringing he reports, this comes in the wake of several controversial -- explicit orders about their body cameras as they were searching for the suspect. >>reporter: just after 3 am, she woke two flashing lights. >> i was wondering what that red light is. then i heard a bunch of gunfire. >>reporter: she dove out of bed. >> i got on the floor. >>reporter: not far from her home, the s.w.a.t. team was tracking a masked man last seen with a gun before midnight. officer spotted him running into the backyard of a home near first avenue and an alleyway. >> due to him being armed and entering the backyard of a resident, our officers slowed the scene down and we did not give chase to the suspect. we knew he was armed with a firearm. >>reporter: the s.w.a.t. team was called in to assist. >> our s.w.a.t. team utilized less lethal options, including a canine in an attempt to locate the suspect. >>reporter: he was found in the backyard but officers said he refused to cooperate. >> when they located him, the suspect posed an immediate threat to the officers and two s.w.a.t. officers fired their weapons at the suspect. but we do know is the suspect is deceased and the officers have located a firearm on the suspect. >>reporter: in light of officer involved shooting for cameras were turned off, call went out for all officers to keep their cameras rolling. >> officers are equipped with body cameras and part of our investigation will be looking at the body cameras that were on scene at this incident. >>reporter: hours after the fatal shooting, the investigation continues. blocking streets and businesses -- trying to catch up on his work, jesse hernandez left his office late last night. >> i was glad it was not here. i had just left. it was probably half an hour before that happened. >>reporter: officers say -- the investigation will last throughout the day as they gather more evidence. more information about the suspect accused of killing a college student. the associated press reports federal state and local agencies are searching and iowa dairy farm that employed and housed the man charged with killing 20-year- old molly tibbetts. officers arrested the suspect last month that he is from mexico and was in the country illegally. he reportedly worked at the dairy farm. there there is a bigger police presence in california high school today. one day after a threat was posted online. >> leigh martinez is reporting, the f vi -- fbi is now involved in the investigation. >>reporter: there is a significant police presence at california high school. while we do not know the specifics, we are told of the threat was to be carried out today. on wednesday, san ramon police and the fbi received a tip from an anonymous online post threatening california high school. officers and agents are investigating the threat. they don't have a suspect, but the fbi traced it to an ip address in europe. >> most people coming to school says i don't think anyone really believed it. there are a lot of police on campus. >>reporter: law enforcement has not been able to identify if the threat is credible. this is the second serious threat against the school. in april a freshman was arrested for planning a school shooting on the anniversary of columbine. police were notified by the -- friend in they plan to bring guns and bombs and had a hit list of students. in the suitcase, the district also thanked the individual who came forward and reported the post to police. >> the fact that students are coming forward, we keep telling them to say something if they see or know something. even community members and families. that gives us the ability to act and keep our school safe. if you see something or know something, please say something. >>reporter: the school district says if it is determined that the threat is credible, they will notify the community as soon as possible. in san ramon, leigh martinez, ktvu fox 2 news. there was an emotional ceremony marking the death of a police officer killed while in line of duty. this was seen outside of the martinez police headquarters monitoring this officer. he rushed to help one suspects were terrorizing people at a hair salon. he killed the 43-year-old -- the sergeant was killed while he was trying to say five people. he was survived by three children and ktvu reporter katie holmes is the first one to speak to the widow. she will have a report coming up. we are hearing multiple reports that actor burt reynolds has died after suffering a heart attack earlier this morning at a florida hospital. we are told his family was by his side when he passed away. reynolds was nominated for best supporting actor in 1997 for his role in boogie nights. he is survived by his son. he was 82 years old. he was in smokey and the bandits, towards fairfield, we have a triggering wind that is bringing in cooler air. winds right now to the southwest about 15 miles per hour. what typically happens later into september and october, you get a change with the wind coming in from the northeast. it increases the fire danger and will clear out the fog. not happening just yet. we are showing still solid overcast at the airport. we are tracking patchy fog near the coach and portions of the bay. it will be a bit stubborn into the mid afternoon hours. we have two weather systems, went to the north and another to the south. it wants to day of the week. around the bay, 70s. the coast in the 60s. we are dealing with cool mild weather patterns. that will continue into sunday and monday. alameda fire crews have contained the small grass fire that started near midnight. it started near sheridan road and crews managed to put out the flames. no buildings were burned and firefighters said there is no damage to property. there we expect to get an update from the water district on the progress that is being made to raise the dam at the loss the carrots reservoir. the project will increase the capacity of the reservoir and raise the dam by some 55 feet. agencies are supporting the plan to increase water storage in event of a drought. the state is helping to provide money. the los vaqueros reservoir will help provide water for 1.4 million people. reports a structural concerns in the san francisco neighborhood. and 18 story building, two blocks from the millenium tower, the building has sunk by one inch. they plan to watch for faith thank you to chairman kim jong un, we will get it done together. the delegation carried a new demand from kim. he wants his goodwill measures to be met with concessions in the last including the video will help lead them to suspects of a shooting that injured three people at a busy taco shop. the video is clear and the suspects -- body tattoos are visible. >> they believe the suspects are involved in a gang and they want them off the street. alyana gomez reports, investigators of the public can help identify them. >>reporter: surveillance cameras outside the restaurant capture the moment when a gunman opened fire on a three- man while standing inches away from a family. the little girl, closest to the shooter, is in clinging to her mother. they run away in a panic. >> right in front of the family. >>reporter: we show the video just released by police two people dining right where the shooting happened back on the night of august 9. >> do you recognize these people? >>reporter: -- >> no. >>reporter: -- busy shopping plaza. san jose police call it a brazen attack that started with three men inside the restaurant. >> they were in an argument and went about their business and eventually the victims walked out and they were leaving the restaurant when you see the suspect, which very clearly shows it was a premeditated attack, takes the victims by surprise and shoots all three of them. >> cameras inside show clear images of their faces and tattoos. this is the man believed to be the shooter, wearing a dark colored warriors hat. the other guy with a goatee has what looks like a san diego padres tattoo on his left hand with another tattoo on the left side of his head. the woman is believed to be in her early 20s seen wearing a gray romper. all three are latino. >> based on the exchange of information, which we are not releasing, we believe it will be a gang type of incident. >>reporter: the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. police believe the suspects are from outside the san jose area. alyana gomez, ktvu fox 2 news. richland mall is open today after being shut down while four suspects ran inside. it happened at 5 pm yesterday evening. officers try to stop a vehicle near that shopping mall and after a short chase, suspects got out of their car and ran inside the mall. two of the suspects were armed with guns and police later recovered those. three of the four suspects are in police custody. a spotter system was tested overnight. this is a freeway security system -- and follows highway shootings. several law enforcement agencies in the county signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to install the regional security network. some cameras and license plate readers have already been installed on highway 4 and antioch in pittsburgh. sensors are being installed on the highway, as well. law enforcement agencies hope to have the next phase of the project completed by the end of the year. san francisco-based levi strauss says the latest company to get involved in the political debate -- chip berg is the ceo at levi's and a supporting gun control. he said levi's is teaming up with a group called every town for gun safety, and is donating $1 million over four years to groups who would like to end gun violence. as business leaders with powers, the -- we simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to the issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work. san francisco police are investigating a stabbing that is being called a random attack. it happened yesterday near market. a woman was walking on the street when she was stabbed by another woman. witnesses told police it was unprovoked. the victim was taken to the hospital and the suspect was arrested. it is being looked into by officers. police say a handheld tool designed to save lives in car emergencies has become a popular -- has become popular with burglars who target cars. this tool is meant to cut seatbelt and break a window so someone trapped inside the car can get out quickly. the police released a video that shows someone using it to break into a parked car last month. the two women acting as accomplices distracted anyone that might be watching and the burglar hands off his backpack and leans against the car and uses the device to break a window, and then he dives into the car headfirst, grabbing items from inside. then he walks away. >> because that tool can be easily used to break into vehicles and shatter windows quietly, criminals are using it to walk up, punch the window, and steel items. >>reporter: police arrested a suspect in the break-in. he was out on bail and has been arrested several times for car break-ins. san francisco's district attorney offices repeat offenders are responsible for large percentage of the auto burglaries in san francisco. a man accused of attacking two people at berkeley has been arrested. police say the man had a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest. his name has not been released. >> mary miller is leaving presentation high school in san jose. her resignation comes one month after a civil lawsuit was filed
